Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report a case of bilateral facial palsy in a patient with Guillain-Barre Syndrome after coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) vaccination. Methods : The patient diagnosed as Guillain-Barre Syndrome and Bilateral facial palsy after COVID-19 vaccination. We applied Korean medical treatment including acupuncture and herbal medicine for bilateral facial palsy. We used HBGS(House-Brackmann Grading System), VAS(Visual Analog Scale) to estimate the symptoms. Results : After the treatment, both facial palsy showed big improvement. Compared to the onset, HBGS improved by Grade 1/2 and VAS by 2. Conclusions : This case report shows effect of Korean medicine on Bilateral facial palsy and suggests a possibility of Korean medicine to treat adverse events following COVID-19 vaccination.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to report that effect of Korean medicine treatment for patient with peripheral facial nerve palsy accompanied by hemifacial spasm through hospitalization. Methods : We treated a patient with facial nerve palsy by acupuncture, electroacupuncture, herbal medicine, pharmacopuncture and cupping. The effect of treatment was evaluated using the House-Brackmann scale, the Yanagihara grading system, and the visual analogue scale(VAS). Results : During the 18 days hospitalization period, the symptoms of hemifacial spasm disappeared and the facial palsy improved. The House-Brackmann scale changed from 4 grade to 2 grade, the Yanagihara grading system changed from 19 to 47, and the VAS changed from 3 to 0. Conclusions : This case report suggests that Korean medicine could be effective for facial palsy accompanied by hemifacial spasms.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report a case of erythematotelangiectatic type rosacea and peripheral facial palsy improved by Korean medicine treatment with Soshioho-tang gagambang. Methods : The patient visited our clinic due to facial flushing and peripheral facial palsy symptoms. Based on Sanghallon provision, we treated this case with Soshiho-tang gagambang. The result of treatment was evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), Dermatology Life Quality Index(DLQI) and House-Brackmann Grading System(HBGS). Results : After 12 days of taking Soshiho-tang gagambang, VAS of rosacea was decreased from 9 to 4 and DLQI was decreased from 22 to 5. After treatment, rosacea with facial flushing was improved and HBGS was reduced from 3 to 1. Conclusions : This study shows the possibility of taking Soshiho-tang gagambang for erythematotelangiectatic type rosacea and peripheral facial palsy derived from stress, fatigue and sleep disturbance according to Sanghallon provision.

Objectives : This study was conducted to analyze the Korean Medicine treatment on Tension-type Headache (TTH) in Korean clinical studies. Methods : Articles were searched from four Korean databases(KISS, RISS, OASIS, ScienceON). Study type, publication year, demographic information of participants, intervention type and details, outcome measurements and treatment results of selected articles were analyzed. Results : 17 articles were selected among those published until January 15th 2023. 'Cheonghyulgangki-tang', acupuncture at 'GV20', moxibustion at 'CV12', pharmacopunture at 'GB20', 'ByeolGab' were most frequently used in treatment on TTH. 'Numeric Rating Scale(NRS)' and 'Visual Analog Scale(VAS)' were most frequently used in outcome measurements. All of the articles exhibited that Korean Medicine treatments improved symptoms of TTH. Conclusion : This study showed that various Korean Medicine treatments for TTH were effective. This finding could be used in clinical practice and build the basis for the direction of clinical practice guidelines in future, Nevertheless, this study has few limitations. Further systematic reviews and meta analyses of randomized controlled trials are required for more evidence on Korean Medicine.

Objectives : This study is to report the treatment of chronic suppurative otitis media with Bojungikgi-tang and acupuncture without western medicine. Methods : A 57-year-old female patient visited my korean medical clinic on November 19, 2019 with complaints of ear fullness and yellowish effusion in the left ear. The patient had perforated eardrum with yellowish effusion. For the first month she took Bojungikgi-tang 3 times a day and received acupuncture 5-6 days a week without western treatment. The next month, only acupuncture treatment was performed twice a week. The condition of the eardrum and otorrhea was observed through an otoscope, and the degree of ear fullness and head heaviness were evaluated by visual analogue scale. Results : During the treatment, the eardrum was reperforated once, but it was regenerated, the otorrhea disappeared, and all other symptoms improved. Afterwards, it was confirmed through follow-up that the eardrum was maintained in a regenerated state. Conclusions : These results show that the combined treatment of herbal medicine and acupuncture is effective for chronic suppurative otitis media.

Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a chronic and recurrent upper gastrointestinal symptom that has no organic cause. A 49-year-old male patient positive for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) visited the clinic because of FD and constipation. He received complex Korean medicine treatment, including acupuncture and herbal medicines, from April 14 to July 18, 2022 (27 times) in the outpatient department. Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS), Nepean Dyspepsia Index (NDI), FD-related quality of life (FD-QoL), Euro QoL visual analog scale (EQ-VAS), and Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) were used as evaluation tools in this study. Symptoms were relieved after 3 months of treatment, and his QoL improved (GSRS, 15-3; NDI, 110-21; FD-QoL, 52-20 [eating status, 10-3; liveliness status, 12-8; psychological, 1-0; role-functioning status, 18-9]; EQ-VAS, 40-65; NRS, 8-4). The results revealed that complex Korean medicine treatment could alleviate FD and constipation in patients with HIV.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to report the effectiveness of Korean medicine in the treatment of reflux esophagitis. Methods: A 62-year-old male patient had reflux esophagitis that occurred one year after a proximal gastrectomy for gastric ulcer in 2020. The patient underwent drug treatment in 2021 and inpatient treatment in 2022 at Mokpo Hankook Hospital, but he did not improve. We treated him with Korean medical treatments, including herbal medicines (Pyungjingunbi-tang-gami), acupuncture, and moxibustion. His symptom severity was assessed with a daily visual analog scale (VAS) for heartburn, upper abdomen pain, and acid reflux. Results: After treatment, the patient's symptoms were improved. The severity of heartburn and acid reflux was reduced from VAS 7 to VAS 1, and his upper abdomen pain was improved from VAS 6 to VAS 1. The symptom frequency was also reduced. Conclusion: Korean medicine treatment could be an effective and quick treatment for reflux esophagitis.

Purpose: This paper is aim to report the effects of Gamchosasim-tang(GCT) on the genital ulcer suggested Behcet's disease. Methods: The patient in this case was 45-year-old. The chief complains were genital ulcers, mouth ulcers, fatigue, skin lesions (hand site), eye discomfort. She was treated by GCT. The progress of symptoms were evaluated by visual analogue sclae. Results: After the treatments, genital ulcer pain and mouth ulcer pain disappeared, fatigue, skin lesions, eye discomfort decreased. Conclusion: This clinical case indicate that GCT is effective in treatment of the genital ulcers. And GCT is considered that good effect is to Behcet's disease.

The purpose of this study was to investigate impact of wearing low-level current wrist guards on pain scale, range of motion (ROM), and muscle strength in elderly women with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). Subjects were 12 elderly women aged between 65 and 85 years who were diagnosed with CTS symptoms. Measurements included grip strength and wrist ROM. Wrist ROM was assessed through flexion and dorsiflexion. Wrist guards were worn. After two weeks, pain level was assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Results showed a significant reduction in VAS score in the MES group after stimulation, whereas there was no difference in the control group. However, there was no significant difference in ROM between the MES group and the control group. Grip strength increased in the MES group after two weeks (p ≤ 0.001). In conclusion, clinical trials suggest that MES wrist guards might be provided as an adjunctive treatment method for CTS patients. This study provides foundational data for the design and use of auxiliary devices such as gloves in the field of MES research for pain reduction, ROM improvement, and muscle strength enhancement resulting from CTS.

To determine the effectiveness of acupuncture in treating restless legs syndrome (RLS), we conducted a literature review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that utilized acupuncture as an intervention for patients diagnosed with RLS. Relevant clinical studies (n = 158) from seven databases (the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, CNKI, KISS, RISS, and OASIS) were included based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and analyzed. Moreover, 6 RCTs were selected for review. In all six studies, it was indicated people who underwent acupuncture treatment showed significant improvements in their overall health. An increase in the treatment efficacy rate, sleep quality, and quality of life indicators after the acupuncture treatment was confirmed. The severity of pain as assessed using the visual analog scale (VAS) scores and International RLS Study Group Rating Scale (IRLSRS) scores and the severity of RLS symptoms were significantly reduced. Any significant side effects were not reported. Acupuncture is suggested as an effective and safe treatment method for RLS. However, further large-scale RCT studies are needed to confirm our findings.
