Objective : The purpose of this study was to report the improvement in two patients with different complaints of sleep disorder treated with herbal medication based on the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system (DPIDS), and hypothesize the meaning of word '更'. Methods : According to DPIDS, patients were diagnosed with Taeyang-byung no. 29 provision, and took Gamchogungang-tang herb medication 15 or 90days. The results of administration were evaluated by the hyperhidrosis disease severity scale (HDSS) and the visual analog scale (VAS). Results : After administration of Gamchogungang-tang 15 or 90days, based on 29 provision of Gamchogungang-tang diagnosed according to Shanghanlun provisions, in one case the HDSS decreased from 3 to 1 and the VAS decreased from 10 to 1. In the other case, the VAS decreased from 10 to 1. Conclusions : Each patient not only recovered from symptoms of hyperhidrosis and alopecia areata, but also from sleep disorders following administration of a single medication of Gamchogungang-tang. This case report suggests that the word '更' in the 29 provisions of Shanghanlun means sleep disorder in this case.

Objectives We report 1 treatment case with Euphorbiae Kansui Radix which is based on Sasang constitutional Medicine for Chronic Dizziness in Soyangin. Methos We treated Soyangin patient suffering form chronic dizziness. We prescribed Euphorbiae Kansui Radix for her physical symptoms. The improvement of her dizziness was evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). Results After the Euphorbiae Kansui Radix was given, the patient's Dizziness was improved. And there was not any adverse effect. Conclusions This study shows that using Euphorbiae Kansui Radix can be effective treatment for Soyangin chronic dizziness patient.

Growth, oxidative stress and antioxidant capacity of Fucus serratus exposed to high doses of Cd were examined. Two sites in Southwest England (Restronguet Point and Bantham Quay) were selected since they had different histories of metal contamination. 1~10 mg Cd $L^{-1}$ were treated to Aquil medium for up to 14 days. Similar levels of lipid peroxidation but different values of relative growth rates, cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging capacity indicated that F. serratus has population-dependent antioxidant strategies. F. serratus demonstrated cadmium resistance with no visual symptoms for 14 days and the population from the polluted area seemed to have more powerful antioxidant strategies. However Fucus from the conserved area also showed protective anti oxidative mechanism.

Carotid cavernous sinus fistula(CCSF) is an abnormal communication at the base of the skull between the internal carotid artery and the cavernous sinus. Fistula is almost associated with extensive facial trauma as a result of direct or indirect forces. Most fistulas of traumatic origin develop as a result of fractures through the base of the skull, which cause the laceration of the internal carotid artery near the cavernous sinus. The signs and symptoms of CCSF are pulsating exophthalmosis, orbital headache, pain, orbital or frontal bruit, loss of visual acuity, diplopia and ophthalmoplegia. Angiography reveals a definite CCSF and a detachable balloon embolization is known to be the treatment of choice. Even though carotid cavernous sinus fistula is an uncommon complication after orthognathic surgery, several cases of CCSF due to congenital anomalies, pre-existing aneurysms and abnormally thickened maxillary posterior wall have been reported in the literature. We have experienced a case of CCSF after Le Fort I osteotomy for maxillary advancement in skeletal class III patient and the cause, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of this case.

Oral leukoplakia is the most common premalignant lesion of the oral mucosa. This case report presents the effect of acupuncture on Oral leukoplakia. The 67 years old male patient who has suffered for 2 years was treated with Right side Saam acupucture Damjeonggyeok(BL66, GB43, LI1, GB44) without other treatment. Acupuncture was performed for 15 minutes. The effect of acupuncture was evaluated as photographic change and visual analog scale(VAS) of subjective symptoms in oral cavity. After 87th acupunture treatment during 226 days, Leukoplakias were decreased at the right side of ventral tongue and the left border of the tongue and the lower lip. Furthermore, ulcer, erosion at the left border of the tongue were disappeared and VAS of Burning pain in the tongue decreased from 8 to 2. Although acupuncture is unusual treatment for Oral Leukoplakia, this case report suggested the effectiveness of using Damjeonggyeok on Oral Leukoplakia according to Saam acupuncture method.

Objective : This study reports the effect of Korean medicine on one case diagnosed as idiopathic glossopharyngeal neuralgia. Methods : We experienced one case with idiopathic glossopharyngeal neuralgia treated with acupuncture, herbal medicine and gargling. Associated symtoms had been estimated with change of VAS(Visual Analogue Scale), severity of dysphagia, and diet type. Result : After the treatment, symptoms were decreased and almost disappered. In this case, VAS and severity of dysphagia decreased from 10 to 1 and from severe to subsided, and diet type changed from unable to DD4(Dysphagic Diet 4) during 21 days. Conclusion : This study suggests that Korean medicine is effective on idiopathic glossopharyngeal neuralgia.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of combination therapy of photodynamic therapy (PDT) with Korean medical treatments on scalp folliculitis, which has been difficult to treat by using antibiotic.Methods : A 32-year-old male patient with scalp folliculitis, received treatment with acupuncture, herbal medicine and PDT and so on. We used Visual Anologue Scale(VAS) to evaluate recovery from erythema, pruritus and pain. Also, the photos of patient were taken before and after treatments.Results : Visible symptoms to the naked eye and VAS scale effectively decreased after Korean medicine treatments for two months.Conclusions : It is expected that Korean medical treatments and PDT were thouht to be effective for scalp folliculitis.

Object : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of Miso Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture on Facial Palsy Sequela. Miso Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is an Korean medical treatment technique used for face lifting and facial disease. Method : We tereated a male patients who has Facial palsy sequela include contraction, spasm, synkinesis with Miso Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture. The treatment was performed one times a week for thirteen times. The effects of the treatment were evaluated VAS(visual analogue scale). Result : After the treatment the grade of VAS was decreased and clinical symptoms were gradually disappaered. Conclusion : Miso Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture showed improvement in sequela of facial palsy.

Objective: To report the effect of oriental medical treatment on post spinal surgery syndrome (PSSS) in restless leg syndrome (RLS). Methods: We treated this patient with oriental medicine and measured his progress using a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and the International Restless Leg Scale (IRLS). Results: After treatment, most symptoms had decreased: the VAS score dropped from 6 to 3, ODI from 22 to 14, and IRLS from 34 to 20. Conclusions: Oriental medicine may be effective in alleviating PSSS and RLS. However, more rigorous studies are required to identify exactly what treatment is more efficient for PSSS and RLS.

This report describes the effectiveness of mahaenggamseog-tang(麻杏甘石湯) on the patients who suffered from atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. We administered mahaenggamseog-tang with heat-clearing and lung-dispersing(淸熱宣肺) effect to two dermatitis patients who showed sweating with panting(汗出而喘), vexation and thirst(煩渴), aversion to heat(惡熱), agitation(煩燥), swelling of the face and eyes(面目浮腫). The severity of dermatitis was evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS), pictures, SCORAD index(case 1), PASI(case 2). After the treatment, VAS/SCORAD index of case 1 changed from 9/71.5 to 0/6.1; VAS/PASI of case 2 from 8/36.8 to 1/6.8. Mahaenggamseog-tang could improved the symptoms of atopic dermatitis and psoriasis in this study. This study offers an approach to managing chronic dermatitis more effectively using Mahaenggamseog-tang which used mainly for bronchial diseases and obesity.
