A Study of the Accessibility Evaluation of TTS-1 for the Screen Reader User (스크린리더 사용자를 위한 플러그인 가상악기 TTS-1의 접근성 평가 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accessibility of the Cakewalk TTS-1 for the screen reader users. An evaluation was performed by testing the accessibility of a editing virtual instrument that is a part of MIDI production based on the NCS(National Competency Standards) by using the TTS-1 and the Sense Reader. The results of this study are as follows. The TTS-1 itself can't provide enough accessibility for the screen users to do an above task. But the screen reader users can perform the above tasks if they use extended access functions like Sense Reader's Mouse Pointer function, Position Memory function and MIDI Control Signal function. Even if they use the extended access function, there are functions that is difficult to access. To solve this problem, several suggestions are proposed.

  • This study examined how users use smart speakers in cooking situations. Skilled and unskilled participants cooked a new recipe while following voice instructions delivered by a smart speaker. The results from video recordings of their cooking, think-aloud protocols, and interviews showed that the smart speakers freed users' hands, allowing them to cook while checking recipes. The lack of visual information did not pose a serious challenge to the cooking task, but impacted cooking quality. The implications for VUI-based recipe service designs are discussed.

  • Virtual Reality(VR) technology is an interface technology that is actively used in various audio-visual-based applications by showing users a virtual world composed of computer graphics. Since VR-based applications are graphic processing-based applications, expensive computing devices equipped with Graphics Processing Unit(GPU) are essential for graphic processing. This incurs a cost burden on VR application users for maintaining and managing computing devices, and as one of the solutions to this, a method of operating services in cloud environments is being used. This paper proposes a performance management technique to address the problem of performance interference between containers owing to GPU resource competition in container-based high-performance cloud environments in which multiple containers share a single GPU. The proposed technique reduces performance deviation due to performance interference, helping provide uniform performance-based remote VR services for users. In addition, this paper verifies the efficiency of the proposed technique through experiments.

  • This study aims to define the basic design elements of a sonic interactive object and relate them with the different metaphor types including physical metaphor, gestural metaphor, sound metaphor, and embodied metaphor that are reflected on the interface, gesture, sound, and embodied experience. It discusses how the concept mapping can be effectively done by utilizing metaphor and considering the relationships between the types of metaphor when designing a sonic interactive object. This study has a significance in the aspect that it expanded the area of metaphor to embodied experience and subdivided the types of metaphor including visual, sound, gestural and tactile information. Furthermore, it attempted to analyze the design elements of a sonic interactive object in relation to the types of metaphor. A researcher or a designer, therefore, can use this study as a reference to design concept mapping of a sonic interactive object, in a way that the design elements and metaphor types work together effectively to enable a visitor to recognize what they are expected to do with the object more intuitively.

  • This study developed a voice recognition chatbot system to address depression and loneliness among the elderly in an aging society. The system utilizes the Whisper model, GPT 2.5, and XTTS2 to provide high-performance voice recognition, natural language processing, and text-to-speech conversion. Users can express their emotions and states and receive appropriate responses, with voice recognition functionality using familiar voices for comfort and reassurance. The UX/UI design considers the cognitive responses, visual impairments, and physical limitations of the smart senior generation, using high contrast colors and readable fonts for enhanced usability. This research is expected to improve the quality of life for the elderly through voice-based interfaces.

Development of a Window Program for Searching CpG Island (CpG Island 검색용 윈도우 프로그램 개발)

  • A CpG island is a short stretch of DNA in which the frequency of the CG dinucleotide is higher than other regions. CpG islands are present in the promoters and exonic regions of approximately $30{\sim}60$% of mammalian genes so they are useful markers for genes in organisms containing 5-methylcytosine in their genomes. Recent evidence supports the notion that the hypermethylation of CpG island, by silencing tumor suppressor genes, plays a major causal role in cancer, which has been described in almost every tumor types. In this respect, CpG island search by computational methods is very helpful for cancer research and computational promoter and gene predictions. I therefore developed a window program (called CpGi) on the basis of CpG island criteria defined by D. Takai and P. A. Jones. The program 'CpGi' was implemented in Visual C++ 6.0 and can determine the locations of CpG islands using diverse parameters (%GC, Obs (CpG)/Exp (CpG), window size, step size, gap value, # of CpG, length) specified by user. The analysis result of CpGi provides a graphical map of CpG islands and G+C% plot, where more detailed information on CpG island can be obtained through pop-up window. Two human contigs, i.e. AP00524 (from chromosome 22) and NT_029490.3 (from chromosome 21), were used to compare the performance of CpGi and two other public programs for the accuracy of search results. The two other programs used in the performance comparison are Emboss-CpGPlot and CpG Island Searcher that are web-based public CpG island search programs. The comparison result showed that CpGi is on a level with or outperforms Emboss-CpGPlot and CpG Island Searcher. Having a simple and easy-to-use user interface, CpGi would be a very useful tool for genome analysis and CpG island research.   • This study originates from the following critical mind; what will the office of the future be like? and what technology will we rely upon most to communicate with colleagues or to access business information. In the office environment today, new technology has compelled new work paradigm and has greatly affected the capabilities of the individual to work in a more productive and efficient manner. However, even though new computer technology has changed the business world so rapidly, it is very difficult to see the changes that have been taken place. As an aim of the study, creating a mobile tool for office workers that successfully supports their work and communication was explored, and this study explored future work environment with a 5 years technological and social perspective. As a result of this study, the bON brings new visions to the mobile professionals via various interfaces. The bON, a mobile device, is both a system of work and of communication for office workers. The bON, as an integrated tool for working and communicating, forms the basis for a mobile information gateway that is equally capable of functioning as a mobile desk. The basic underlying idea is that all formal meeting places and hallways in the office are equipped with large wall-mounted screens. The bON collaborates with these media in various ways to enhance productivity and efficiency. The main challenge for the bON to enhance both mobility and quality of information is using new technology including bendable and flexible display and soft material display and sensors. To answer for the strong needs for mobility, the whole size of the device is fairly small while the screen is rolled inside the device. For Graphical User Interface, moreover, a new technique called Multi-layering Interface was adopted to stretch user's visual limits and suggests new direction in designing mobile device, equipped with small size display.

  • It is noted that the paper mapping system for University Building Facility has many limitations in terms of data maintenance, real-time GIS data acquisition, and economic efficiency. The aim of this research was to evaluate an operational potential of an on site real-time mobile GIS technique to resolve the problem faced in the university. The idea is based upon the recent trends in the field of 'Telecommunication and Information Technology' that uses a PDA (personal Digital Assistants), wireless network computing, mobile computing, etc. A real time mobile GIS approach has been adopted, in which a PDA is linked to a wireless internet and field workers record data on the computer at the site and analyse data on site. While there should be a considerable number and variety of factors associated with real-time mobile GIS quality, this research focuses on three criteria that are identified as fundamental to customer requirements; (1) data quarry (2) spatial analysis (3) real-time GIS database building. 'Art--empirical study for a case study facility has been conducted to confirm the validity for the system. The system has been checked experimentally, enabled the field users to quarry the data required simply and execute spatial analysis (buffer, overlay etc.,) accommodating versatile alternatives on the site. Detailed visual maps can be generated over large areas quickly and easily. The PDA interface, in particular, were ideally suited for field users to interactively displaying positional information with attribute data. This system has shown to be quite convenient to maintaining a highly reliable database since it could playa crucial role in documenting at real-time basis temporal and spatial changes occurred in the facilities. It is anticipated that this research output will greatly serve to introduce the reliable and cost-effective facility mapping system in the university by overcoming serious constraints suffered from the past non-real time mobile GIS approach.

A Study on Immersive Interaction Between HMD User and Non-HMD User for Presence of Asymmetric Virtual Reality (비대칭 가상현실에서의 현존감을 위한 HMD 사용자와 Non-HMD 사용자간 몰입형 상호작용에 관한 연구)

  • This study proposes an immersive interaction optimized for the user's experience environment to provide an improved presence for both HMD and Non-HMD users in the asymmetric virtual reality (VR) environment. The core of the proposed immersive interaction is to distinguish the differences of the asymmetric environment between the HMD and Non-HMD users and present the optimized interaction to the user. And, in order to increase the presence by providing improved immersion in the asymmetric virtual reality environment given to each user, we design the walking interaction to improve the immersion of space for the HMD users, a hand-based interface that improves immersion by fully understanding and managing the situation through direct control. Finally, through the experiment using questionnaire, it is verified that the immersive interaction provides all users with an enhanced presence and specialized experience in each environment experience. Through these processes, we confirmed that the Non-HMD user can be immersed in an asymmetric virtual reality using by proposed interaction as participant rather than assistant with HMD user.

Development of GML Map Visualization Service and POI Management Tool using Tagging (GML 지도 가시화 서비스 및 태깅을 이용한 POI 관리 도구 개발)

  • In this paper, we developed the GML Map Server which visualized the map based on GML as international standard for exchanging the common format map and for interoperability of GIS information. And also, it should transmit effectively GML map into the mobile device by using dynamic map partition and caching. It manages a partition based on the visualization area of a mobile device in order to visualize the map to a mobile device in real time, and transmits the partition area by serializing it for the benefit of transmission. Also, the received partition area is compounded in a mobile device and is visualized by being partitioned again as four visible areas based on the display of a mobile device. Then, the area is managed by applying a caching algorithm in consideration of repetitiveness for a received map for the efficient operation of resources. Also, in order to prevent the delay in transmission time as regards the instance density area of the map, an adaptive map partition mechanism is proposed for maintaining the regularity of transmission time. GML Map Server can trace the position of mobile device with WIPI environment in this paper. The field emulator can be created mobile devices and mobile devices be moved and traced it's position instead of real-world. And we developed POIM(POI Management) for management hierarchically POI information and for the efficiency POI search by using the individual tagging technology with visual interface.
