  • During recent years, a new framework, which aims to bring a unified and global approach in indexing, browsing and querying various digital multimedia data such as audio, video and image has been developed. This new system partitions each media stream into smaller units based on actual physical events. These physical events within oath media stream can then be effectively indexed for retrieval. In this paper, we present a new approach that exploits audio, image and video features to segment and analyze the audio-visual data. Integration of audio and visual analysis can overcome the weakness of previous approach that was based on the image or video analysis only. We Implement a web-based multi media data retrieval system called XCRAB and report on its experiment result.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest objective basic data for environmental resource planning through the evaluation of the visual quality by GIS. For this, Landscape information system have been made up of topographical and superficial information and landscape values of Cheju Island have been evaluated by using Grass 4.1, degree of visual preferences have been measured mainly by questionnaires and finally these data have been analyzed by using the correlation. Result of this study can be summarized as fellows, in the landscape value, remarkable views play a role as the dominant landscape information. Also, LCPs including various, successive view or a lot of visibility amount have high Landscape value. Therefore, it is important to management landscape which can preserve values of landscape elements through the creation of visibility area. In the visual preference, remarkable scenes play a part as a dominant factor. Also, LCPs including a wide field of vision or successive view have high visual preference. Therefore, it is proved that the visual preference is related to a field of vision and remarkable scenes. Finally, these data have been analyzed by using the regression, in order to verify the method. The result is that a R\sup 2\ is 0.715. It means that correlation is significant at the 0.01 level. In conclusion, the results of this study reveal that visual preference has been evaluated by aesthetic variables and landscape values have been evaluated by GIS. And visual preference and landscape values are closely correlated. In other words, it is possible to evaluate the aesthetic value by physical variable. The method of evaluationi is used in Cheju Island, and it will be possible to apply this method to other places. And this method can be applied to other places by special quality and landscape informatioin system, made up of landscape elements. Also, it will be possible to keep up management and applicatioin that is evaluated by GIS and computer program. Recently, there is a tendency tat visual and aesthetic approach, based on planners' experiences and intuitioin is gradually changed to the scientific approach, based on a objective data. Therefore, it is important that the measuring system is based on objective data which are concerned with a special quality of landscape. It is also significant that the environmental planning is based on a spatial image of physical environment and major landscape elements.

  • Mobile display panel is small so that users are often difficult to perceive images clearly. About image we perceive much through colors and therefore we propose color fitting approach for clear perception even on the small and low quality LCD panels. Various color modifications have been studied and used in commercial software packages. For mobile usage, our approach instantly enhances color images by modifying colors in a way to contrast differences of them. The method includes tone enhancements (which contrast dark and bright sides) and color enhancements (which reduce saturation for pure colorants). Based on color theory, our method also modifies color values towards specified complementary and preference colors. We term this color fitting. This approach enables displaying photos, multimedia messages, videos and digital media broadcasting (DMB) for better perception in real-time on mobile devices. Index Terms.) color fitting, visualization on small display, mobile graphics, visual perception.

  • In this paper, an image-based "approach-align -grasp" visual servo control design is proposed for the problem of object grasping, which is based on the binocular stand-alone system. The basic idea consists of considering a vision system as a specific sensor dedicated a task and included in a control servo loop, and we perform automatic grasping follows the classical approach of splitting the task into preparation and execution stages. During the execution stage, once the image-based control modeling is established, the control task can be performed automatically. The proposed visual servoing control scheme ensures the convergence of the image-features to desired trajectories by using the Jacobian matrix, which is proved by the Lyapunov stability theory. And we also stress the importance of projective invariant object/gripper alignment. The alignment between two solids in 3-D projective space can be represented with view-invariant, more precisely; it can be easily mapped into an image set-point without any knowledge about the camera parameters. The main feature of this method is that the accuracy associated with the task to be performed is not affected by discrepancies between the Euclidean setups at preparation and at task execution stages. Then according to the projective alignment, the set point can be computed. The robot gripper will move to the desired position with the image-based control law. In this paper we adopt a constant Jacobian online. Such method describe herein integrate vision system, robotics and automatic control to achieve its goal, it overcomes disadvantages of discrepancies between the different Euclidean setups and proposes control law in binocular-stand vision case. The experimental simulation shows that such image-based approach is effective in performing the precise alignment between the robot end-effector and the object.

  • Automatic, yet reliable methods to find and classify barred galaxies are going to be more important in the era of large galaxy surveys. Here, we introduce a new approach to classify barred galaxies by analyzing the butterfly pattern that Buta & Block (2001) reported as a bar signature on the potential map. We make it easy to find the pattern by moving the ratio map from a Cartesian coordinate to a polar coordinate. Our volume-limited sample consists of 1698 spiral galaxies brighter than Mr = -15.2 with z < 0.01 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey/DR7 visually classified by Ann et al. (2015). We compared the results of the classification obtained by four different methods: visual inspection, ellipse fitting, Fourier analysis, and our new method. We obtain, for the same sample, different bar fractions of 63%, 48%, 36%, and 56% by visual inspection, ellipse fitting, Fourier analysis, and our new approach, respectively. Although automatic classifications detect visually determined, strongly barred galaxies with the concordance of 74% to 86%, automatically selected barred galaxies contain different amount of weak bars. We find a different dependence of bar fraction on the Hubble type for strong and weak bars: SBs are preponderant in early-type spirals, whereas SABs are in late-type spirals. Moreover, the ellipse fitting method often misses strongly barred galaxies in the bulge-dominated galaxies. These explain why previous works showed the contradictory dependence of the bar fraction on the host galaxy properties. Our new method has the highest agreement with visual inspection in terms of the individual classification and the overall bar fraction. In addition, we find another signature on the ratio map to classify barred galaxies into new two classes that are probably related to the age of the bar.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine elderly drivers' driving performances at the intersections, suggested by Bao and Boyle(2009), according to visual information processing skills. Visual information processing skills of elderly drivers were measured by using the visual working memory task, developed by Min et al.(2006). Seven elderly drivers were divided into two groups(good/poor) depending on the level of visual information processing skills and eleven younger drivers were a contrast group. This study examined the differences of driving performance(i.e., intersection passing times, approach velocities, speed variation and handling variations) among three groups. The results showed that elderly drivers having the poor visual information processing skills passed more slowly through the intersection than the contrast group, and passing times between elderly drivers having the good visual information processing skills and the contrast group was not significantly different. It is suggested that elderly drivers having the poor visual information processing skills use more times when they pass through the intersection, because they don't process a lot of hazardous and latent hazardous factors quickly.

  • This study explores lip-sync detection, focusing on the synchronization between lip movements and voices in videos. Typically, lip-sync detection techniques involve cropping the facial area of a given video, utilizing the lower half of the cropped box as input for the visual encoder to extract visual features. To enhance the emphasis on the articulatory region of lips for more accurate lip-sync detection, we propose utilizing a pre-trained visual attention-based encoder. The Visual Transformer Pooling (VTP) module is employed as the visual encoder, originally designed for the lip-reading task, predicting the script based solely on visual information without audio. Our experimental results demonstrate that, despite having fewer learning parameters, our proposed method outperforms the latest model, VocaList, on the LRS2 dataset, achieving a lip-sync detection accuracy of 94.5% based on five context frames. Moreover, our approach exhibits an approximately 8% superiority over VocaList in lip-sync detection accuracy, even on an untrained dataset, Acappella.

  • This study aimed to assess the spatial cognition strategies and roles taken by students in the process of solving spatial tasks. For the analysis, this study developed two spatial tests based on the mental rotation test, which were taken by 63 students in their final year in elementary schools. The results of this study showed that in terms of the method of approaching the tasks, students took the comprehensive approach and the partial approach. When solving the tasks, the students were shown to use the imagery thinking or analytic thinking method. In terms of perspective, the students rotated the object or change their perspectives. A comparison of the methods used by the students revealed that when approaching the tasks, the group of students who chose the partial approach had higher scores. In terms of solving the tasks the analytic thinking method, and in terms of perspective, changing perspectives were shown to be more effective. Such effective methods were used more frequently in discrimination tasks than in recognition tasks, and in more complicated items, than in less complicated items. In conclusion, the results of this study suggested that the partial, analytic approach and the change of perspectives are useful strategies in solving tasks which require high cognitive effort.

  • There are two approaches in measuring colors (or chromaticity) in water, i.e., visual comparison method and spectrophotometric method. The color of sample was determined by comparing with that of platinum-cobalt standard solution in the visual comparison method. Single or multiple wavelengths are used for the spectrophotometric method. As the accuracy and precision of visual comparison method depend on the eye sight of the analyzer, the results are not so reliable and representative. In addition, it is hard to measure chromaticity less than 5 TCU. Single wavelength approach in spectrophotometric method, can be applied for groundwater or surface water with natural organic matter (i.e., humic substances) while it's hard to measure the color of wastewater which includes anthropogenic chemical compounds. The measurements with multiple wavelengths approach resulted in reliable data regardless of the source of sample water, i.e., surface water and wastewater. As dozens of measurements and complicated calculations for one sample were required for the multiple wavelengths approach, the approach could not be applied for field measurement. In the present study, the authors tested efficient method which could measure the color of water sample accurately and precisely regardless of the source of water. With the colorimeter with multiple wavelengths and calculation program, the colors of water samples could be measured within 3~4 seconds with accuracy and precision.
