Results : Sulguanjul-bang No.1 treatment led to significant improvement in the pain and symptoms of osteoarthritis as determined by all efficacy measures. After 8 weeks of therapy, there was significant improvement in VAS and Lysholm index; squat, sit down and up, crepitaion, swelling. The range of motion was improved in 6 of 9 cases. The improvement in patient's global assessment was seen in 84%. Conclusion : Sulguanjul-bang No.1 was very beneficial effect in pain relief and improvement functions on osteoarthritis.
Objective: This study was designed to investigate the effect of Wihwa herbal-acupuncture on chronic gastritis. Methods: Wihwa herbal-acupuncture was administered two times a week. The following points were selected: CV12(中脘), CV13(上脘), S36(足三里), Liv3(太衝). We checked pain rating score(P.R.S.), visual analogue scale (V.A.S.) and Gastroscopy. Results: After 6 weeks of treatment, the patient showed that clinical symtoms was disappeared, Lee's P.R.S. changed from 77 to 8 and Park's P.R.S. from 55 to 0 and gastric erosion disappeared on gastroscopy. Conclusions: These results suggest that and Wihwa herbal-acupuncture has good effect on chronic gastritis. But further studies are required to concretely prove the effectiveness of Wihwa herbal-acupuncture for treating chronic gastritis.
Purpose: In case of the failed replantation, if the patients want to preserve the length of amputated stump, toe transfer is the ideal choice. However, reconstruction of these amputated stump with a free flap can be a useful method when the patients refuse sacrificing their toe. Our purpose of this study is to evaluate availability of functional results and patient satisfaction after this procedure. Materials and Methods: From March 2008 to February 2012, we reconstructed the amputated stump with free flap by patients demand. Eleven patients were included, medial plantar artery perforator flap in seven cases and great toe pulp flap in five cases. Follow-up range 12 to 24 months and we evaluate patient satisfaction by using a visual analogue scale (VAS; 1=unsatisfied, 5=excellent) and functional recovery by measuring the range of motion of remaining joint at 12 months after operation. Results: During follow-up period, all transferred free flaps survived and no major complications were noted. Range of motion of remaining joint appeared satisfactory result ($15^{\circ}$ to $100^{\circ}$). The VAS patient satisfaction score for aesthetic were five in six patients, four in four patients, and three in one patient. Conclusion: In case of the failed digital replantation, if patient refuse toe transfer, it could be useful method to reconstruction with the free flap to preserving maximal length of amputated stump.
Objectives : This study it designed to evaluate the effects of an oriental medicine therapy, namely Binsosan-gamibang, on diabetic peripheral polyneuropathy. Methods : The clinical data was analyzed on a patient with diabetic peripheral polyneuropathy due to subyeolongsung(濕熱壅盛), gihyeoloeche(氣血瘀滯) whose main symptoms were pain and numbness in both legs. The patient was admitted at the internal medicine department of Dae-Gu Hanny University Dae-Gu Oriental Medicine Hospital on December 22, 2003, and was treated with herbal medicine(Binsosan-gamibang), acupuncture and physical therapy. Results : After treatment, improvement in pain and numbness in both legs was seen in the subsection of the pain rating score(PRS) and the visual analogue scale(VAS). Conclusions : This study suggests that Binsosan-gamibang is significantly effective in treatment of diabetic peripheral polyneuropathy.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of group exercise, manual therapy, and a home exercise program on VAS (visual analogue scale), ROM (range of motion) of shoulder, and functional outcome in adhesive capsulitis. Methods: The study was conducted with 45 patients. All subjects were randomly assigned to 3 groups: group exercise (n=15), manual therapy (n=15), home exercise (n=15). The subjects performed an intervention program 3 times a week for 4 weeks a total of 12 times. Outcome measurements were VAS, ROM, and Constant-Murley score outcome measures. Measurements were taken four times, at baseline, 4 weeks later, 8 weeks later, and 12 weeks later. Results: VAS, ROM of the shoulder, and functional outcomes showed improvement in all groups at the final follow-up (p<0.05). VAS and ROM showed greater improvement with group exercise and manual therapy than home exercise, however, there were no significant differences between the two groups (p>0.05). Functional outcomes showed the greatest improvement in group exercise at the final follow-up. This improvement was greater than with manual therapy or home exercise (p<0.05). Conclusion: Group exercise and manual therapy were more effective for improving pain, ROM, and function than home exercise in adhesive capsulitis. In particular, group exercise is more effective in functional recovery than other physiotherapy interventions.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the reliability and validity of the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) for assessing Korean athletes. Methods: A total of 48 patients (37 males and 11 females) participated in this study. Data were acquired after translation of the FMS from English to Korean and cross-cultural adaptation of the this questionnaire. To determine inter-rater reliability, the relationship between the FMS scores obtained by two raters was evaluated using the Kappa coefficient, which was in total agreement with the Intra-Correlation Coefficient (ICC3,1). Concurrent validity was examined by correlating the FMS scores with the Oswestry disability index (ODI) scores and Visual analogue scale (VAS) scores. Results: The raters demonstrated excellent agreement on 7 (above 90%) of the 17 test (72.9 to 97.9%) components. Substantial agreement was seen in 11 of the 17 tests. Two components of the In-line lunge and rotatory stability tests demonstrated moderate agreement. It showed good inter-rater reliability: the Kappa coefficients ranged from 0.42 to 0.97. ICC3,1=0.42~0.99 and 0.93 (total FMS score). Cronbach's alpha for FMS was 0.80. It was not correlated with ODI or VAS. Conclusion: The Korean version of the FMS is a reliable instrument for measuring movement patterns of Korean athletes and for making decisions related to interventions for performance enhancement.
Background: Recently, improvements in drug administration technology have intensified interest in the treatment of postoperative pain. this has resulted in increased use of continuous intravenous infusion of opioid and epidural opioid as alternative to traditional intramuscular administration of opioid. The goal of this study, therefore, was to document the effects of pain control and side effects following continuous intravenous infusion of morphine or meperidine and intramuscular meperidine following cesarean section. Methods: The vital signs, pain score, oxygen saturation and side effects were compared in 150 patients receiving continuous intravenous infusion of morphine, 30 ${\mu}g/kg/hr$ (n=50, group 1); continuous intravenous infusion of meperidine, 150 ${\mu}g/kg/hr$ (n=50, group 2); or intramuscular meperidine, 50mg/every 6hrs (n=50, group 3). Results: VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) was significantly decreased after 30 minutes of administration in all three groups and was significantly lower at 1 hour, but higher at 6 hours in group 3 than two other groups. Severe desaturation episode, defined as $SpO_2$<90%, occurred in the group 3(0.2%). Moderate desaturation episodes, defined as $SpO_2$ 91~95%, occurred more in group 3 than in group 1 and 2 (17.4% vs. 10.4%, 8.2%). The incidence of side effects were similar among three groups. Conclusion: The continuous infusion of opioid was more effective and safe method of postoperative pain control than traditional intramuscular injection.

Methods : According to 'Disease Pattern Identification Diagnostic System based on Shanghanlun Provisions', the patient diagnosed as 'Jueyinbing Huoluan' number 388 provision and took herbal medication Hoiyeok-tang for 28days. The changing symptom progress of Dyshidrotic Eczema was evaluated by DLQI(Dermatology Life Quality Index) and VAS(Visual Analogue Scale). Results : The DLQI score changed 24 to 0 and VAS changed 8 to 0. Conclusions : Patient who suffered from Dyshidrotic Eczema caused by concentrating on sophisticated work using her eyes and hands was treated by Hoiyeok-tang in Shanghanlun. Skin disease on hands or feet can be closely related to conception of 手足厥 in Shanghanlun. Further studies are needed to validate the conception of 手足厥 and the effects of Hoiyeok-tang.
Objective: We analyze pain relief, deformity correction and complication rate after percutaneous kyphoplasty for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. Methods: The authors retrospectively reviewed medical records and radiological findings of 32 patients who underwent percutaneous kyphoplasty for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. Results: The patients had significant pain improvement with the procedure. The visual analogue scale score reduced from 8.6 to 3.4 significantly after the procedure. The midline vertebral body height significantly increased postoperatively, but mean kyphotic angle did not. There was no serious complication except one case of epidural cement leakage without neurological impairment. Conclusion: Balloon kyphoplasty safely can reduce severe back pain and returned geriatric patients to higher activity levels. The midline vertebral height is restored significantly. However kyphotic deformity correction is not significant as contrary to what we expected from the present study before it was carried out.
