This paper presents a fuzzy-motion-control based tracking algorithm of mobile robots, which uses the geometrical information derived from the active stereo-vision system mounted on the mobile robot. The active stereo-vision system consists of two color cameras that rotates in two angular dimensions. With the stereo-vision system, the center position and depth information of the target object can be calculated. The proposed fuzzy motion controller is used to calculate the tracking velocity and angular position of the mobile robot, which makes the mobile robot keep following the object with a constant distance and orientation.

In this paper, we propose a new vision-based defect inspection system for the surface of hot slabs. To minimize the influence of self-emission from slab surfaces with high temperature, an optic method based on blue LED light and a blue pass filter is proposed. Because the slab surface is partially covered with scales, which are unavoidable oxidized substances caused during manufacturing, it is difficult to distinguish between vertical cracks and scale. In order to resolve this problem and to improve the detection performance, the use of a Gabor filter and dynamic programming are proposed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by means of experiments conducted on images of hot slabs that were obtained from an actual slab production line.

Presently, the exploration of an unknown environment is an important task for thee new generation of mobile service robots and mobile robots are navigated by means of a number of methods, using navigating systems such as the sonar-sensing system or the visual-sensing system. To fully utilize the strengths of both the sonar and visual sensing systems. This paper presents a technique for localization of a mobile robot using fusion data of multi-ultrasonic sensors and vision system. The mobile robot is designed for operating in a well-structured environment that can be represented by planes, edges, comers and cylinders in the view of structural features. In the case of ultrasonic sensors, these features have the range information in the form of the arc of a circle that is generally named as RCD(Region of Constant Depth). Localization is the continual provision of a knowledge of position which is deduced from it's a priori position estimation. The environment of a robot is modeled into a two dimensional grid map. we defines a vision-based environment recognition, phisically-based sonar sensor model and employs an extended Kalman filter to estimate position of the robot. The performance and simplicity of the approach is demonstrated with the results produced by sets of experiments using a mobile robot.

Quality inspection of textile products is an important problem for fabric manufacturers. This paper presents an automatic vision-based system for quality control of web textile fabrics. Typical web material is 1-3m wide and is driven with speeds ranging from 20m/min to 200m/min. At the present, the quality assessment procedures are performed manually by expert. But worker can not detect more than 60% of the present defect and inspect the fabric if moving faster than 30m/min. To increase the overall quality and homogeneity of textile, an automated visual inspection system is needed fur the productivity. However, the existing inspection system are too expensive to purchase for small companies. In this paper, the proposed PC based real-time inspection algorithm gives low cost textile inspection system, high detection rate with good accuracy and low rate of false alarms. The method shows good results in the detection of several types of fabric defects.
Vision is a process in which the brain and eyes collaborate to enable sight by analyzing light reflected from objects. Vision is also the most crucial among the five basic human senses for recognizing environments. The eyes contain 70% of the sensory receptors in the body, and 90% of the information processed by the brain is visual. Currently, approximately 2.2 billion people worldwide have vision impairments. A recent study estimated that the global economic productivity losses due to vision impairment and blindness amount to approximately $410 billion. Additionally, as people age, their ability to control their vision declines, leading to presbyopia, which typically starts in their 40s. Since people heavily rely on vision in their daily lives, vision problems can significantly reduce the quality of life. Approaches to solving vision problems can be broadly categorized into visual prostheses requiring surgery, sensory substitution based on neuroplasticity, and smart glasses for presbyopia. We present the trends and future development prospects for three key areas of research: visual prostheses, visual substitution technologies, and smart glasses technologies. These areas are being explored with the aim of addressing visual impairments and blindness.

This paper presents the pose estimation of a small UAV utilizing visual information from low cost cameras installed indoor. To overcome the limitation of the outside flight experiment, the indoor flight test environment based on multi-camera systems is proposed. Computer vision algorithms for the proposed system include camera calibration, color marker detection, and pose estimation. The well-known extended Kalman filter is used to obtain an accurate position and pose estimation for the small UAV. This paper finishes with several experiment results illustrating the performance and properties of the proposed vision-based indoor flight test environment.
The term adaptive control is often used to describe recent advances in welding process control but strictly this only applies to system which are able to cope with dynamic changes in system performance. In welding applications, the term adaptive control may not imply the conventional control theory definition but may be used in the more descriptive sense to explain the need for the process to adapt to the changing welding conditions. This paper proposed a methodology for obtaining a good bead appearance based on multi-torches welding system with the vision system in SAW. The methodologies for adaptive filling control used the welding current/voltage, arc voltage/welding current/wire feed speed combination and welding speed by using the vision sensor. It was shown that the algorithm for the welding current/voltage combination and welding speed revealed the sound weld bead appearance compared with that of the voltage/current combination.

This paper presents a lateral control system for the autonomous navigation vehicle that was developed and tested by Robotics Centre of Ecole des Mines do Paris in France. A robust lane detection algorithm was developed for detecting different types of lane marker in the images taken by a CCD camera mounted on the vehicle. $^{RT}Maps$ that is a software framework far developing vision and data fusion applications, especially in a car was used for implementing lane detection and lateral control. The lateral control has been tested on the urban road in Paris and the demonstration has been shown to the public during IEEE Intelligent Vehicle Symposium 2002. Over 100 people experienced the automatic lateral control. The demo vehicle could run at a speed of 130km1h in the straight road and 50km/h in high curvature road stably.

A computer-vision based pipe-inspection algorithm is developed. The algorithm uses the modified Hough transformation and a line-scanning approach to identify the edge line and the radius of the pipe image, from which the eccentricity and dimension of the pipe-end is calculated. Line and circle detection was performed using Laplace operator with input image, which are acquired from the front and side cameras. In order to minimize the memory usage and the processing time, a clustering method with the modified Hough transformation is introduced for line detection. The dimension of inner and outer radius of pipe is calculated by the proposed line-scanning method. The method scans several lines along the X and Y axes, calculating the eccentricity of inner and outer circle, by which pipes with wrong end-shape can be classified and removed.

The development of LD(Laser Diode) tester and its control system based on the graphical programming language(LabVIEW) is addressed. The ill tester is used to check the optic power and the optic spectrum of the LD Chip. The emitter size of LD chip and the diameter of the Detector(optic fiber and photo diode) are very small, therefore the test device needs high accuracy. But each motion part of the test device could not accomplish high accuracy due to the limit of the mechanical performance. So, an image processing with machine vision is proposed to compensate for the error. By adopting our method we can reduce the error of position within $\pm$5$\mu\textrm{m}$.
