  • Images of microcalcification specks showed large variation in conventional radiographs of phantoms which are approved for mammography image quality standard by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This kind of variation is not appropriate for image quality standards because the number of specks are visually counted in images and that number is important in image quality evaluation. Our study using synchrotron radiation (SR) imaging revealed the overlapping of micro-sized air bubble(s) to some specks, and also the structural deformation or crackings. Eight phantoms approved by ACR from two different makers and an air-bubble phantom were examined. SR imaging was performed at a synchrotron radiation facility, SPring-8, in Japan. The image-detector was a fluorescent-screen optical-lens coupling system using a CCD camera with a spatial resolution of 6 $\square$m. Objects when imaged with longer sample-to-detector distance show edge enhancement due to a difference in refraction indices, that is refraction enhancement. Refraction-enhanced SR images revealed that some of specks carried foreign objects, which were proven to be air. In phantoms provided by one maker, attaching/overlapping airs were observed for 62 out of 150 specks (41%) , with a higher incidence for the smallest specks. A speck becomes hardly visible in a conventional radiograph when air(s) overlaps the majority part of a speck, though depending on the size of the air-inclusion and on its configuration. Those airs might have been adsorbed on a speck surface before being embedded and then introduced into the matrix together with specks. Our study using SR imaging has clearly shown the nature of defects in some mammography phantoms which seriously degrade the quality as an image standard.

  • This paper attempts to research on the new language in the directing of Ara Kim. She was cranky on working on the stage to experiment with her own style since the 1980s and so opened a new dawn in modern Korean theatre. She leaded the Korean experimental theatre. The background of this experiment is her idea on theatre. And here, we have to look the subject that she setted for the work in Chuksan: Ritual Past, Ritual Present. To her, the theatre has the function of ritual and fest. The theatre suggests universal tragedy given to human as natural life force and has its own agenda to drive people to healing. For it, Ara Kim explores archetypal forms and languages before the fragmentation of genres of art. Her theatre shows the results of experiments in which such languages are recreated with modernized sensibilities. We here, for example by outdoor performance in Chuksan Human Lear, try to interpret the aesthetic principles that body out her ritual theatre. And what we looked at though, is the base of the 'complex-genre-music-theatre', the methode to 'compose' the stage elements and put it all together. The directing of Ara Kim has, in terms of the composition of the stage elements, much of the indisputable artistic value. Her theatre is, so to speak, theatre of image, and it is theatre of imagination that completed by the audience's imagination. Human Lear which has its own characteristic in image fragments, convert the original Lear into a simple tale. It serves as background of the modern ritual that shows the most basic human instincts. We meet in Human Lear a ritual tale with some list of image for the human instincts. The arrangement of image, the montage of scene shows the performance as a kind of artistic space. In Human Lear the space is the natural one. It centers around the arena stage. The objects installed in the space changes it into the laboratory for 'seeing' the happening. The spectators see the performance and at the same time see themselves in the nature laboratory. They see, and equally, they are visible objects. They see the performance and us in the space in which the performance takes place. That is what Ara Kim with her modern ritual really aims. That aim is to this days still in effect. It is a major driver of her experiments to extend the boundary of the theatre. The ritualistic site-specific performance in Akor Wat, Cambodia, A Song of Mandala is the latest great product from her experiments. On the other hand, she continues on her way to experiment with pure stage elements. The 'Station' series(Station of Water, The Station of Sand, The Station of Wind) she recently showed are the non-verbal performance with all the stage elements: movement, sound, body, light, colour, objects and so on.

  • Purpose: When performing nuclear medicine examinations, body wraps or plastic supports are used to support and immobilize the patient's upper extremities to prevent patient safety accidents. However, the existing plastic supports compromised patient and staff safety, including finger entrapment and falls. Moreover, the body wrap provided by manufacturers compromised image quality such as upper extremities cutoff during whole body bone scan. Therefore, a new design of body wrap was developed to improve the issue, and this study aims to evaluate the usability of this medical body wrap. Materials and Methods: To evaluate the usability of the newly designed medical body wrap, a quality assessment of whole body bone scan images and a user satisfaction survey were conducted. Adult patients (male:female=129:152, age: 60.3±12.4 years, BMI: 24.0±4.2) aged 16 years or older who underwent a whole body bone scan during two periods: June to July 2022 (before improvement, n=139) and June to July 2023 (after improvement, n=142) were randomly selected for image quality evaluation. Five radiotechnologists visually evaluated the posterior view of the whole body bone image, including the left and right elbow (2 points), arm (2 points), whether the hand is extended (2 points), whether the hand is included (2 points), and the number of visible fingers (10 points), with a total of 18 points, which were converted to 100 points and analyzed for difference before and after improvement using an independent sample t-test. The user satisfaction questionnaire was evaluated using a 5-point Likert scale among 16 radiotechnologists from three general hospitals who experienced the new body wrap. Results: The image quality assessment was 82.0±13.8 before the improvement and 89.3±10.1 after the improvement, an average of 7.3 points higher, with a statistically significant difference (t=5.02, p<0.01). The user satisfaction survey showed an overall satisfaction rating of 4.1±0.8 for ease of use, 3.8±0.7 for scan preparation time, 3.9±0.7 for patient safety, 3.8±1.2 for scan accuracy, and 4.2±0.7 for recommendation (87.5% questionnaire response rate). Conclusion: The developed body wrap showed higher image quality and user satisfaction compared to the old method. Considering these results, it is deemed that the new body wrap may be more useful than existing methods.

  • Corporate images are created inside the corporate and then peppered throughout the public such as consumers, communities, countries, etc. who are outside the corporate. Therefore, corporations express their corporate images through such visible images as CI, products, brands, advertisements, company buildings, etc. in order to form a favorable corporate image for the public. Therefore, many corporations have begun to express various visual factors in order to form their images. So, the purpose of this study is to determined the connectivities of corporate images and facade design of company buildings, and to elicit the findings of whether corporate images are applied to the facade design of company buildings, and of what expressive factors are applied to the design, if so. The conclusions are as follows: First, an examination of the degree that the characteristics of corporate images and design components of the facade design of company buildings have been expressed showed that corporations preferred the design of company buildings on which a lot of components have been expressed. Second, it also showed that they preferred determinants of the facade design of company buildings in the order of architectural factors > visual factors > decorative factors. Third, it indicated that the corporations on which the design components of the facade design of company buildings have been reflected most were in the order of C > B, D > A, E > G > F, J > H, I. Fourth, it further showed that most of the corporations have used curtain walls as materials of the facade design.

  • Draft ice in polar regions is formed due to sea level changes and various environmental factors cause damage due to collision with offshore plants and ships for resource development. Drift ice in polar regions is a potential source of accidents for offshore plants that perform long-term operations in one place, as well as on the ship. To prevent accidents with drift ice, offshore plants and ships in polar regions use satellite image information and detection radar to detect drift ice. However, the inability to use visible satellite images at night significantly lowers the detection probability by radar for small drift ice. In this study, we used a thermal imaging system which can be operated day and night for the detection of drift ice, and carried out an experimental study on the detection characteristics of drift ice. To examine the night operation of the thermal imaging system, the experimental condition was set and the thermal image was measured according to the measurement angle change. Under this condition, the correlation was analyzed by theoretical calculating the radiant energy of the drift ice and the sea water.

  • Contact-type linear image sensors for facsimile have been fabricated by means of rf glow discharge decomposition method of silane. The dependence of their electrical and optical properties on rf power, $SiH_4$ flow rate, ambient gas pressure, $H_2SiH_4$ ratio and substrate temperature are described. The a-Si:H monolayer demonstriated photosensitivity of 0.85 and $I_{ph}/I_d$ ratio of 100 unger 100 lux illumination. However, this monolayer has relatively high dark current due to carrier injection from both electrodes, resulting in low $I_{ph}/I_{dd}$ ratio. To suppress the dark current we have fabricated $SiO_2/i-a-Si:H/p-a-Si:H:B$ multilayer film with blocking structure. The photocurrent of this multilayer sensor with 6 V bias became saturated ar about 20nA under 10 lux illumination, while the dark current was less than 0.2 nA. Moreover, the spectral sensitivity of the multilayer film was enhanced for short wavelength visible region, compared with that of the a-Si:H monolayer. These results show that the fabricated photocon-ductive film can be used as the linear image sensor of the facsimile.

  • Waste office paper, photocopied or laser printed, has recently increased along with office automatization. In waste office paper, toner ink is used as the printing medium in place of conventional oil ink. Since toner ink cannot be saponificated by alkali and be decolored by bleaching, different from the case of oil ink, toner remains on regenerated paper as black specks. Although cascade recycling of waste office paper is compelled at present, the demand for low-grade paper is limited. From such circumstances, a new separation process for waste office paper is demanded to achieve parallel recycling. At the first stage of separation studies, the sharpness of separation is evaluated using small separators to obtain fundamental data. In a lab-scale separator, the sample amount of one feed is generally a few grams. However, the sample amount used for brightness, ERIC, and image analysis that are generally used to evaluate the efficiency of deinking are not small for lab-scale tests of these analyses. This paper describes an investigation of a sheet preparation method by a small amount of sample under 0.5g and compares the precision of toner content determination of spectroscopic analysis and image analysis from the viewpoint of separation evaluation. The easiness and convenience of the operation using only general-purpose equipments has also been set as a principle purpose. From the viewpoint of an analysis that yields high precision with a small amount of sample in short time, the method calculating the absorption coefficient from diffuse reflectance in the visible region is the most rational method in this study.

  • In order to obtain more clear x-ray images, an antiscatter grid, which can absorb the scattered rays, is employed. The artifacts due to the grid pattern are, however, visible, and thus should be removed by employing digital filters. For over exposed x-ray images, the strength of the grid artifacts are too big to be removed if fixed-bandwidth filters are employed. In this paper, for an efficient grid artifact reduction, we analyze the characteristics of the image formation and image saturation as the x-ray exposure increases. We can notice that, as the saturation begins to occur, the maximum of the artifact component decreases contrary to increasing exposure amount. We propose then an adaptive filtering algorithm for reduction of the grid artifacts, where the significant-signal bandwidth of the artifact component is used to choose appropriate filter bandwidths. The proposed algorithm is tested for real x-ray digital images, and can efficiently remove the grid artifacts.

  • Spatio-temporal distributions of nighttime fishing fleet are descirbed with the aid of geographic information system(GIS) technology in the East/Japan Sea, using daily mean composite images of the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program(DMSP) /Operational Linescan System(OLS) in 1993. We selected a study area from $30^{\circ} N to 44^{\circ} N in latitude and from 124^{\circ} E to 142^{\circ}$ E in longitude in order to describe the monthly and seasonal changes of nighttime fishing fleet. The GIS software package Image Analyst (ArcView 3) are used to analyze spatio-temporal distributions of fishing nut. And the OLS images of nighttime visible band provide useful information about the spatio-temporal distribution of the fishing nut. Density areas of nighttime fishing fleet are around Tsushima/korea Strait. the east coast of the Korea Peninsula, the coast of Honshu, and around Yamato Bank.
