  • In the near future, we are expected to live in a Mixed Reality environment where reality and virtuality coexist as today we live using the Internet and smartphones in our daily lives. The relevant content based on the idea of Mixed Reality crystallizing is currently expanding, and it is time for research on it. This study examines the current situation and the development direction of mixed reality contents. Typical mixed reality contents can be classify by wearability. We analyzed HoloLens, a mixed reality wearable device that is worn on a head, which is a example of wearable device. As an example of unwearable device, we also analyzed the Room2Room which is a communication system that combines video with augmented reality-based telepresence avatar. Mixed Reality content will develop in the direction of implementing expanded use of information and more natural realism through the interactive combination of Reality, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality. As head-mounted wearable technology develops, Mixed Reality content is expected to become popular by increasing the number of Mixed Reality device users if convenience and price competitiveness are secured. The way of unifying Mixed Reality wearable devices must be established in order to increase convenience, and the environment based on Mixed Reality will be created through diversifying leisure activity content. Telepresence Avatar is expected to develop into Mobile Hologram Avar as Mixed Reality content accessible anywhere and at anytime beyond space limits. Another potential for development of Telepresence Avatar is the combination of Avatar moving on user's thought, Augmented Human technology and Mixed Reality.

  • Augmented Reality(AR) is the core technology of the future knowledge service industry. It is expected to be used in various fields such as medical, education, entertainment etc. Briefly, augmented reality technology is a technique in which a mapped virtual object is augmented when a real-world object is viewed through a device after mapping a real-world object and a virtual object. In this paper, we implemented object detection and tracking system, which is a key technology of augmented reality. To speed up the object tracking, the ORB algorithm, which is a lightweight algorithm compared to the detection algorithm, is applied. In addition, KNN classifier, which is a machine learning algorithm, was applied to detect a single object by learning multiple images.

  • Augmented reality is derived from virtual reality that provides combined images of what users are watching and what computers are producing to improve the understanding of reality. As an effective method of applying this augmented reality technology in clothes shopping, in this paper we suggested an automatic vending machine as a sales medium, to seek a commercial application method, and developed a prototype.

  • Recently, public interest in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) has increased. Therefore, computer graphics-related research has been actively conducted. This has included research on virtual space related to human posture implementation. However, such research has focused on general posture in humans. This paper presents a system with reference to the basic posture in sports climbing and the inverse kinematics method for generating the positions and behavior of virtual characteristics in a three-dimensional virtual space. The simulation based on the inverse kinematics method, produced with an inverse kinematics solver and initial pose animation from motion capture, provides realistic and natural movement. We designed a simulation system to generate correct posture and motions similar to those in sports climbing by applying the basic procedure of sports climbing. The simulation system provides help for producing content about sports climbing, such as learning programs for novice climbers and sports climbing games.

  • We propose an algorithm for augmenting a real video sequence with views of graphics ojbects without metric calibration of the video camera by representing the motion of the video camera in projective space. We define a virtual camera, through which views of graphics objects are generated. attached to the real camera by specifying image locations of the world coordinate system of the virtual world. The virtual camera is decomposed into calibration and motion components in order to make full use of graphics tools. The projective motion of the real camera recovered from image matches has a function of transferring the virtual camera and makes the virtual camera move according to the motion of the real camera. The virtual camera also follows the change of the internal parameters of the real camera. This paper shows theoretical and experimental results of our application of non-metric vision to augmented reality.

  • In the field of augmented reality technologies, commercial optical see-through-type wearable displays have difficulty providing immersive visual experiences, because users perceive different depths between virtual views on display surfaces and see-through views to the real world. Many cases of augmented reality applications have adopted eyeglasses-type displays (EGDs) for visualizing simple 2D information, or video see-through-type displays for minimizing virtual- and real-scene mismatch errors. In this paper, we introduce an innovative optical see-through-type wearable display hardware, called an EGD. In contrast to common head-mounted displays, which are intended for a wide field of view, our EGD provides more comfortable visual feedback at close range. Users of an EGD device can accurately manipulate close-range virtual objects and expand their view to distant real environments. To verify the feasibility of the EGD technology, subject-based experiments and analysis are performed. The analysis results and EGD-related application examples show that EGD is useful for visually expanding immersive 3D augmented environments consisting of multiple displays.

  • The AR(Augmented Reality) is the technique that make the fusion between real world and virtual object. The augmented object on real world can provide the visualization of digital information to user. Also, the real-time AR system makes the interaction between user and computers. Therefore, the immersion of user be increasing and help the information transfer to user with AR system. In this paper, we implement the AR system with the modeled VRML as a three-dimensional object using programming language. The application technique is proposed that augment the various virtual clothes to three-dimensional avatar. Moreover, we propose the novel interface by using marker that can be increase the immersion of user.

  • Museums are converging with digital technology to convey information to viewers in various ways. Augmented reality technology enhances virtual objects seamlessly in the real world, and provides a high sense of immersion and realism because it can use various senses of users in combination with information providing role of exhibits. However, the location-based augmented reality may cause the inaccurate registration of the virtual object with the real world due to the error of the GPS information, and the vision-based augmented reality can be enhanced at the position where the marker is placed. To solve this problem, we implemented the exhibition contents that interact with the real world by using the developed project tango. The exhibited contents were based on Lenovo Phab 2 Pro and Project Tango SDK in Unity 3D. Visitors were able to improve immersion and realism in exhibition contents, and it would be able to combine with various exhibition fields such as shopping malls as well as museums.

  • Augmented Reality(AR) is one of branch of virtual reality computer graphics techiniques that places images of both the real environments and virtual graphic objects over the user's view of the world. Recently, useful apps are being developed using the AR techniques. We developed the location information service app by applying AR techniques. We used the open source 'Mixare' for AR application development for smartphones. This paper presents the design and development of the app 'Go-To-Hongdae~' that shows street views and related detailed information in real-time about buildings around our campus.

  • VR(Virtual Reality) and AR(Augmented Reality) devices are becoming more common, and the need for proper contents presentation techniques in such environments has been growing ever since the popularization of the devices. One of the contents is the spatio-temporal data, which has become more prominent since it could be both generated and consumed by a large number of ordinary users. In this work, the researcher analyzed the characteristics of spatio-temporal data as a source for visualization in VR and AR environment, and categorized prior visualization methods for such data, which were devised for traditional monitors. The researcher also reviewed the hardware specification of state-of-the-art devices, and examined the possibility of adopting the previous visualization approaches. This work is expected to contribute in designing spatio-temporal visualization for VR and AR environment by utilizing their unique characteristics.
