  • In this paper, we present a novel and practical stereo vision system that uses only one camera and four mirrors placed in front of the camera. The equivalent of a stereo pair of images are formed as left and right halves of a single CCD image by using four mirrors placed in front of the ten of a CCD camera. An object arbitrary point in 3D space is transformed into two virtual points by the four mirrors. As in the conventional stereo system, the displacement between the two conjugate image points of the two virtual points is directly related to the depth of the object point. This system has the following advantages over traditional two camera stereo that identical system parameters, easy calibration and easy acquisition of stereo data.

  • Digital shadow puppet has traditionally relied on expensive motion capture equipments and complex design. In this paper, a low-cost driven technique is presented, that captures human pose estimation data with simple camera from real scenarios, and use them to drive virtual Chinese shadow play in a 2.5D scene. We propose a special method for extracting human pose data for driving virtual Chinese shadow play, which is called 2.5D human pose estimation. Firstly, we use the 3D human pose estimation method to obtain the initial data. In the process of the following transformation, we treat the depth feature as an implicit feature, and map body joints to the range of constraints. We call the obtain pose data as 2.5D pose data. However, the 2.5D pose data can not better control the shadow puppet directly, due to the difference in motion pattern and composition structure between real pose and shadow puppet. To this end, the 2.5D pose data transformation is carried out in the implicit pose mapping space based on self-network and the final 2.5D pose expression data is produced for animating shadow puppets. Experimental results have demonstrated the effectiveness of our new method.

  • In this paper, we propose an application of OpenGL functions for novel view synthesis from multi-view images and depth maps. While image based rendering has been meant to generate synthetic images by processing the camera view with a graphic engine, little has been known about how to apply the given images and depth information to the graphic engine and render the scene. This paper presents an efficient way of constructing a 3D space with camera parameters, reconstructing the 3D scene with color and depth images, and synthesizing virtual views in real-time as well as their depth images.

  • Recently, much research is being conducted based on point cloud data for the growth of innovations such as construction automation in the transportation field and virtual national space. This data is often measured through remote control in terrain that is difficult for humans to access using devices such as UAVs and UGVs. Drones, one of the UAVs, are mainly used to acquire point cloud data, but photogrammetry using a vision camera, which takes a lot of time to create a point cloud map, is difficult to apply in construction sites where the terrain changes periodically and surveying is difficult. In this paper, we developed a point cloud mapping system by adopting non-repetitive scanning LiDAR and attempted to confirm improvements through field application. For accuracy analysis, a point cloud map was created through a 2 minute 40 second flight and about 30 seconds of software post-processing on a terrain measuring 144.5 × 138.8 m. As a result of comparing the actual measured distance for structures with an average of 4 m, an average error of 4.3 cm was recorded, confirming that the performance was within the error range applicable to the field.

  • This study presents an input filter resonance mitigation method for an AC-DC matrix converter. This method combines the advantages of the one-cycle control strategy and the active damping technique. Unnecessary sensors are removed, and system cost is reduced by employing the grid-side input currents as feedback to damp out LC resonance. A model that includes the proposed method and the input filter is established with consideration of the delay caused by the actual controller. A zero-pole map is employed to analyze model stability and to investigate virtual resistor parameter design principles. Based on a double closed-loop control scheme, the one-cycle control strategy does not require any complex modulation index control. Thus, this strategy can be more easily implemented than traditional space vector-based methods. Experimental results demonstrate the veracity of theoretical analysis and the feasibility of the proposed approach.

  • Due to fast development of digital equipments, various information techniques have been applied to the tunneling and a decision aid system based on IT has also been used during excavation stage. A PDA based informative tunneling method is, therefore, studied in this paper and the decision aids for tunneling using digital face mapping data as well as geologic information in terms of digital data is developed. For this, wireless network, mobile computer, CDMA and digital camera have been combined to generate the digital map of the tunnel face and reinforcement or excavation pattern can be estimated based on digitalized geologic conditions. Future studies will be concentrated on the enhancement of the PDA S/W so that reinforcement method as well as the amount of reinforcements can also be stored in the same DB. Furthermore, field application of the S/W will be undertaken and a virtual reality technique will also be introduced to visualize all the tunneling work on the computer monitor.

  • In lunar explorer development program, computer simulator is necessary to provide virtual environments that vehicle confronts in lunar transfer, orbit, and landing missions, and to analyze dynamic behavior of the spacecraft under these environments. Objective of simulation differs depending on its application in spacecraft development cycle. Scope of use cases considered in this paper includes simulation of software based, processor and/or hardware in the loop, and support of ground-based flight test of developed vehicle. These use cases represent early phase in development cycle but reusability of modeling results in the next design phase is considered in defining requirements. A simulator architecture in which simulator platform is located in the middle and modules for modeling, analyzing, and three dimensional visualizing are connected to that platform is suggested. Baseline concepts and requirements for simulator development are described. Result of trade study for selecting simulation platform and approaches of defining other simulator components are summarized. Finally, characters of lunar elevation map data which is necessary for lunar terrain generation is described.

  • In this paper, we propose Media CIS system architecture which provides geographical information of geo-features in video sequences by using 3D geographical database and GPS-related data resulted from 4S-Van. We introduce a novel interoperable geographical data service concept, so-called, Virtual World Mapping (VWA) that can map 3D graphic world with real-world video to provide geographical information. Our proposed method can easily retrieve geographical information and attributes to reconstruct 3D virtual space according to certain frame in video sequences. Our proposed system architecture also has an advantage that can provide geographical information service with video stream without any image processing procedures. In addition to, describing the details of our components, we present a Media GIS web service system by using GeoVideo Server, which performs VWM technique.

  • A variety of VR contents are being introduced as of 2017. VR contents are concentrated in the genre of games and interactive because of the difficulty of $360^{\circ}$ shooting production environment. Live action $360^{\circ}$ VR content has many problems due to the difficulty of the production environment. In this paper, a three - dimensional information value is generated in binocular disparity of a real image by using a re-light technique based on real image data. The generated 3D information values are combined with a technique of converting the depth information into a depth map and a re-light technique by installing virtual lighting on the surface formed in the 3D space. In order to solve the problem of lighting exposure, we apply the technique of re-lighting to the VR production pipeline by comparing and analyzing the result image of actual image and virtual image data.
