What We Want for Virtual Humans: Classification of Consumer Expectation Value on Virtual Influencer by Age Based on Q-methodology (가상 인간에 대한 우리들이 원하는 모습: Q방법론을 기반으로 한 연령대에 따른 소비자 기대 가치 분류)

  • This study focuses on consumers' perceptions of virtual influencers, which many companies recently used for marketing. This study uses the Q methodology to derive what kind of perception consumers have about virtual influencers who work with various appearances, background stories, and worldviews as components. In addition, we want to see how the expected value of virtual influencers differs by age group. To this end, 34 statements were produced through preliminary interviews and literature reviews. This study showed that some consumers preferred appearances similar to humans, despite recognizing that virtual influencers are fictional characters. Some other consumers preferred to feel like a fictional character by maintaining virtuality, confirming that there are both opposite consumers. In addition, consumers expect virtual influencers to have consistency and expertise in the content field covered, and some consumers do not prefer to show an overly commercial appearance. This study will likely provide implications for companies that want to utilize virtual influencers in considering which ones to use for target customers in marketing activities.

Automatic Virtual Camera Control Using Motion Area (모션 면적을 이용한 버추얼 카메라의 자동 제어 기법)

  • We propose a method to determine camera parameters for character motion, which confiders the motion by itself. The basic idea is to approximately compute the area swept by the motion of the character's links that are orthogonally projected onto the image plane, which we call "Motion Area". Using the motion area, we can determine good fixed camera parameters and camera paths for a given character motion in the off-line or real-time camera control. In our experimental results, we demonstrate that our camera path generation algorithms can compute a smooth moving camera path while the camera effectively displays the dynamic features of character motion. Our methods can be easily used in combination with the method for generating occlusion-free camera paths. We expect that our methods can also be utilized by the general camera planning method as one of heuristics for measuring the visual quality of the scenes that include dynamically moving characters.

  • Whether it is an online game or a stand alone game, research will ultimately never stop to increase the degree of realistic expression of visual effects. Recently, realistic characters are appearing in games. Particularly, due to the development of virtual reality technology, RPG games with simulation-based realistic images are becoming popular. The player can experience the story of the game in the game and experience difficulty level by level. As other players, teammates, or enemy characters appear as realistic characters, and the episode of the game expands, the importance of realistic game characters is growing so that they can play more. Adding a realistic game character to a game based on a classic movie character gives the player a more realistic and interesting visual experience. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of realistic character style on the fun and visual effects of games.

Dynamic Crowd Simulation by Emotion-based Behavioral Control of Individuals (개체의 감정기반 행동제어를 통한 동적 군중 시뮬레이션)

  • In virtual environments, such as computer game and animation, we need to enhance naturalness of crowd simulation. So, we propose a method to generate dynamically moving crowd patterns by applying emotional factors to the individual characters of a crowd in the determination of their behavior. The proposed method mimics human behavior and controls each character in a group to decide its own path according to its individual status. And it is able to generate various moving patterns as a result of letting the individuals go to another group depending upon their conditions. In this paper, some temperament and feeling factors are defined and determination rules for calculating the emotional status are also proposed. Moreover we use a fuzzy theory for accurate representation of the ambiguous expressions such as feeling bad, feeling good and so on. Our experiments show that the suggested method can simulate virtual crowd in more natural and diverse ways.

  • The load of this kind of gores, which is heavier than that of any other precedent, and on enormous seamless virtual world characterize the MMORPG(Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) genres. In this seamless environment, gamers can usually accept a set of independent spaces, which is being held by independent game servers, os a single big virtual world. Despite the efforts of some developers, gamers are suffered from huge message traffic which comes from the interaction between client and server and the interaction between fold sowers. In this paper, new gore server architecture using MigAgent is proposed which tries to reduce message traffic. Usually, message traffic reaches the climax when a PC(Player Character) is moving to other field server. MigAgent, designed in this thesis, tries to manage this kind of PCs and to ploy o role of user's agent to prepare for the unexpected situation. Improvement of this system is shown by the analysis of the effect of the size ratio of AOI (Area of Interest) and AC (Adjacent Cell).

  • Since Augmented Reality (AR) enables users to experience computer-generated content embedded in real environments, AR agents can be visualized among physical objects in the environments where the users exist, and directly interact with them in real-time. We model perceptual attention for autonomous agents in AR environments where virtual and physical objects coexist. Since such AR agents must adaptively perceive and attend to surrounded objects relevant to their goals, our model allows the agents to determine currently visible objects from the description of what virtual and physical objects are configured in the camera's viewing area. A degree of attention is assigned to each perceived object based on its relevance to achieve agents' goals. The agents can focus on a reduced set of perceived objects with respect to the estimated degree of attention. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, we implemented an animated character that was overlaid over a miniature version of campus and that attended to buildings relevant to their goals. Experiments showed that our model could reduce the character's perceptual loads even when surroundings change.

  • In the field of computer graphics and HCI, there are many studies on systems that create characters and interact naturally. Such studies have focused on the user's response to the user's behavior, and the study of the character's behavior to elicit positive emotions from the user remains a difficult problem. In this paper, we develop a prototype of an interaction system to elicit positive emotions from users according to the movement of virtual characters using artificial intelligence technology. The proposed system is divided into face recognition and motion generation of a virtual character. A depth camera is used for face recognition, and the recognized data is transferred to motion generation. We use imitation learning as a learning model. In motion generation, random actions are performed according to the first user's facial expression data, and actions that the user can elicit positive emotions are learned through continuous imitation learning.

Development of Textile Design Combining K-pop star Symbols and Traditional Patterns - Focusing on BTS 'IDOL' - (K-pop 스타 상징물과 전통문양을 결합한 텍스타일디자인 개발 - BTS의 'IDOL' 중심으로 -)

  • K-pop stars are an important influence in the era of digital culture based on emotions. The purpose of this study is to visually express the identity and worldview of their music in the virtual and real world, and to promote Korea's current and past culture. The study also intends to appeal to the emotions of the global fans by designing original textile in their music video 'IDOL' on Tiny TAN - a symbol of world pop star BTS. For design development, traditional Korean images shown in the 'IDOL' video were collected, patterns for each member were selected, and a motif was designed on Adobe Illustrator. We selected the dragon as the motif for V, cloud for Suga, chrysanthemums for Jin, mask for Jung Kook, hanok pavilion for RM, fan for Jimin, and Sam Taegeuk for J-Hope. The selected motifs were designed as per the four textile design arrangement methods: square pattern, 1/2 half drop pattern, turn-around pattern, and panel pattern. The design was presented by mapping Kwaeja to Tiny TAN character. The developed textile design can be used not only for character costumes in virtual space, but also for various products such as clothes, accessories, bedding, cosmetics, stationery, and food. By using it to produce goods inspired by K-pop stars, it can be used as basic data for the development of high value-added competitive products in the global market and create synergy effects of K-Design, which would lead a new trend in the design world.

  • As a virtual identity on the virtual space, Avata is expressed in the various graphic forms such as 2D and 3D. Avata is not just combination of characters, but it also reveals the cultural Avitus of the times or the society, which often represents the discrimination according to the generation or social stratum or the unconscious choice of popular culture The modern days are absolutely influenced by the popular culture. And, it is also the case in the virtual space as well as the real world, influencing the fashion trend, cultural taste, and even the behavioral pattern of individuals. Hereupon, through an analysis of cases of using Avata character graphic, we are going to look into the technical ways of expressing Avata and the overall pop culture trend and individual life pattern and taste which are shown in the choice of outfit, necessaries, and background. And, we will also find out the kitsch characteristics in the consumption of Avata. And, we also expect that the image of Avata would be developing into a positive identity demonstrating one's existence on the virtual space, not simply a meaningless choice and combination of image in expressing and consuming Avata.

Generating Curved Lines in a Windows based Navigation Mesh (윈도우 기반 네비게이션 메쉬에서 곡선 생성 기법)

  • In this paper, methods are proposed for creating a curved line in a navigation mesh, which is used in a windows based virtual reality or games. The main geographies used in a windows based virtual reality or games are created by using either grids or navigation meshes. When using grids, it is difficult to create a natural geography. Multiple grids are needed to ensure precise descriptions, which can result in system overload. A navigation mesh was developed to address this issue since the navigation mesh has the benefit of placing fewer loads on the system than a grid method. The drawback, however, is that the movements of character in navigation mesh are less natural. In this paper, a method for creating a curved line using round curves is proposed in order to resolve this issue. Using the methods for creating a curved line proposed in this paper in a windows based virtual reality or games will eliminate the unnatural or awkward movement of characters that arises in the use of a navigation mesh.
