  • Electrooptical (EO) characteristics of a new multidomain vertical-alignment (MVA) liquid crystal display (LCD) with negative dielectric anisotropy on a homeotropic photopolymer were studied. Good voltage-transmittance (V-T) curves of the new MVA-LCD on the homeotropic photopolymer were obtained. Also, the stable response time of the new MVA-LCD on the homeotropic photopolymer was achieved. The viewing angle of the new MVA-LCD could be improved by a crossed stripe grating-groove surface as the alignment layer using a photolithograph method on the photopolymer.

  • A simple and practial equivalent technique has been presented in this study. Arbitrary number of bus system can be aggregated to the equivalent one-bus system, equivalents are totel real, and reactive bus powers and T/L losses viewing form boundary buses. Variables to be determined are line impedance between boundary buses and the equivalent bus, voltage and angle of that bus. IEEE 14 bus system is used to demonstrate the proposed method. even in contingency cases very good results have been obtained

  • This paper proposes illumination-efficient iris image capturing method. face capture method for extraction of iris pattern with one high resolution camera needs a large scale near infrared illumination. we replace high-resolution camera with co-optic-axial combination between wide view camera and narrow view camera. because this method needs small scale illumination that illuminate only narrow camera viewing angle, we can capture iris pattern image with small scale near infrared illumination.

  • Both the physically handicapped people and the people of advanced age drive the electromotive cart of tricycle type the every day. When the public electromotive cart of tricycle type has inclined on the slant road or the bumpy road, the viewing angle of driver is changed at the same time. So the risk of traffic accident is increased. For the improvement of the above problem, the present study has made the electromotive cart installed to the new drivers seat on the basis of the 2 $\pi$ control theory.

  • Display performance of mobile LCDs has been improved according to broadening of their application. But there are many demands from market, such as contrast improvement (high color reproducibility), higher efficiency of light usage, thickness reduction, widening its viewing angle and so on. To respond them we have been developing many new types of films. In this paper we introduce new high contrast white polarizers for better color reproducibility, and new film construction for higher light efficiency.

  • VA-LCDs is widely used for recent LCD productions owing to good viewing angle and high contrast. To apply for VA-LCDs, we have synthesized novel homeotropic alignment materials, which all generated high pretilt angles ($9^{\circ}$). The thermal stabilities of them were observed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Transmittances of the NLC cell used the new alignment material were not changed before and after thermal annealing at $120^{\circ}C$ for 24hrs. In this work, the synthesis and alignment properties of new homeotropic alignment materials will be reported.

  • A liquid crystal device with switchable dynamic and memory modes was investigated and developed. The proposed device reveals the splay, $\pi$-twist, and bend states via selective switching among them. In the dynamic mode, the device is operated in the bend state, which exhibits a wide viewing-angle and a fast-response-time due to its self-compensated bend structure and flow-accelerated fast response time, respectively. In the memory mode, the permanent memory characteristics in the splay and $\pi$-twist sates are obtained, respectively. The switching mechanisms of the tristate device are also proposed.

  • We have studied electro-optic characteristics of reflective optically compensated splay (R-OCS) cell. The initial configuration of this cell is in splay form such that a mid director lies parallel to the substrate and around it hybrid structure is formed symmetrically so the optically compensation effect exists. Optimized optical configurations could be achieved by using a single polarizer, a quarter-wave film and a cell with quarter-wane retardation. The optimal cell retardation is 0.34 ${\mu}$m, allowing to have large cell gap. The cell provides high contrast ratio of 80:1 at normal direction and the region with contrast ratio over 5:1 covert up to 160$^{\circ}$ horizontally and vertically at all wavelength range.
