  • The span of life of human beings has lengthened because of medical progress and so on. Consequently, the old have begun to remark that quality of life (QOL) is as important as extension of the life expectancy. However, some diseases such as stroke, cancer induce decrease of QOL. In case of the stroke, it is followed by chronic headache and dementia as an aftereffect, causing serious decrease of QOL. Jodeungsan, traditional medicine, have been prescribed for headache and hypertension. Many clinical trials and laboratory experiments about pharmacological effects of Jodeungsan have been reported. Jodeungsan ameliorated chronic headache and improved recognitive deficit. Moreover, Jodeungsan lowered blood pressure in hypertensive condition which is one of a major cause of stroke. These effects of Jodeungsan on several diseases are partly attributed to antioxidant effect. This report reviews the pharmacological effect of Jodeungsan in the view of stroke-related diseases.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of 'Nomadic thought' in interior space through the understanding and interpretation of the contemporary nomadic life. The citizens in modern times lead a nomadic life on the move rather than settle down in place, and this pattern of life is going with increasing speed keeping in step with the development of the Internet. From this point of view, this theoretical investigation on the relationship between the interior architectural analysis and their applications through nomadic thought as a new paradigm is to establish the basis of interior design in the capacity of the main value system in our new generation and to explore the new notion of interior space

  • Settings of traditional shrines and their Surroundings are seemed to be one of the typical life-cultural designs realized on land in urban or rural area in Japan. It can be said that those settings are some reflections of nature-oriented cosmology established in long term history of ordinary people. Examining those settings and making clear their characteristics could be a significant issue of landscape architecture for discussing sustainable ways of urbanism or regional development. In this paper, the author examined and discussed the shrine settings from a view point of their spatial relation with surrounding water system. Based on the surveys on more than 60 local shrines in northern area of Tokyo, it was revealed that many shrines have strong connections to surrounding waters or low lands with downward-oriented worshipping to nature instead of upward-oriented worshipping well known as general location of shrine. It is believed that the result shows the diversity of landscape settings of shrines as historical life-culture, and the varieties has to be conserved or restored in various ways of urban design or regional planning.

  • This study aims ai the extraction of what is universally to be taught in modern Korean Families and its scalization. That is, it attempts to provide the criterion by which we can determine what to teach adolescent in the family, not in society or school. For this purpose, this study firstly reviews the preceeding studies on the subject. As a result of the review, we postulate the hypothetical structure consisting of 11 domains. Secondary, we gather the parent's view on the topic by interviewing 496 parents with teenagers. On the basis of this study, we can construct the questionnaire(Likert scale; 5 point). After we conduct an extensive empirical research(346 parents) in order to generalize 195 items of the workedout questionnaire. We apply factor analysis(principal axis factoring, oblique (promax) rotation) in the verification of the validity. As the consequence, we select 66 items consisting, 10 factors, which explain 68% of common variance. We name the 10 educational factors extracted in the scale as follows ; The Sense of Value, Communal Society, Sex, Esteem for an ancestor & a traditional way of life, Parent-Child Relationship, the Culture life within the family, The Guide of Learning Way, Setting up the way of life, The control of one's life, Friendship. The reliability of the scale is the cronbach =0.91 which turns out to be satisfactory.

  • PURPOSE. This in vitro study aimed to compare the accuracy of the conventional facebow system and the newly developed POP (PNUD (Pusan National University Dental School) Occlusal Plane) bow system for occlusal plane transfer in asymmetric ear position. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two dentists participated in this study, one was categorized as Experimenter 1 and the other as Experimenter 2 based on their clinical experience with the facebow (1F, 2F) and POP bow (1P, 2P) systems. The vertical height difference between the two ears of the phantom model was set to 3 mm. Experimenter 1 and Experimenter 2 performed the facebow and POP bow systems on the phantom model 10 times each, and the transfer accuracy was analyzed. The accuracy was evaluated by measuring the angle between the reference virtual plane (RVP) of the phantom model and the experimental virtual plane (EVP) of the upper mounting plate through digital superimposition. All data were statistically analyzed using a paired t-test (P < .05). RESULTS. Regardless of clinical experience, the POP bow system (0.53° ± 0.30 (1P) and 0.19° ± 0.18 (2P) for Experimenter 1 and 2, respectively) was significantly more accurate than the facebow system (1.88° ± 0.50 (1F) and 1.34° ± 0.25 (2F), respectively) in the frontal view (P < .05). In the sagittal view, no significant differences were found between the POP bow system (0.92° ± 0.50 (1P) and 0.73° ± 0.42 (2P) for Experimenter 1 and 2, respectively) and the facebow system (0.82° ± 0.49 (1F) and 0.60° ± 0.39 (2F), respectively), regardless of clinical experience (P > .05). CONCLUSION. In cases of asymmetric ear position, the POP bow system may transfer occlusal plane information more accurately than the facebow system in the frontal view, regardless of clinical experience.

  • Research on children should be perferably made in reference with the past thinking if it is to be affirmed by the present and to predict the future. In this respect, Buddhism, which is one of the major original thinkings in the Orient as well as the most influential religion upon Koreans daily lives and attitudes, deserves to be researched in the light of education of children. In this thesis, I have made a trial to delve into the original Buddhistic scriptures to find out Buddha's outlook on home children and arrived at the following conclusions: 1. Concerning human development stages, Buddha regarded the starting point of human life from fertilization instead of birth, even at that ancient time, and the fetal life was devided into 4, 5, or 8 stages. 2. In spite of the numerous scriptures by Buddha, very little is written about children, and even these teaching did not regard the child as an independent entity. In addition, since Buddha was a person of superior enlightenment, he did not regard the age of human beings as of great importance. 3. On the relationship between parents and children, Buddha warned the extra ordinary attachment of parents toward children, because such attachment would be an obstacle in the search of truth. This idea was originated from his thought that the relationship between parents and children was not a single fixed one but of unlimited variation through numerous life times of reincarnation. This idea gives some illumination upon the problems of today's education where parent's exclusive attachment to their children and over-protection are hindrance for successful education. 4. Buddha put emphasis on parents' social duty, by which he meant that parents should care and accept not only their biological children but all children and all living things as if they were their own children. 5. Regardeding the children's role to their parents, Buddha taught that children should respect and support their parents under any condition. Buddha also emphasized that true filial piety was to help parents to improve their religious status by helping them attain the truth, morality, and wisdom. It is my intention to investigate Buddha's View tin children of entering pristhood.
