Interactive Video Service(IVS) is a new type of media service that enables users to interact with others in the process of casting and watching videos in a system. 'Timing flexibility', which divides IVS into real-time IVS and non-real-time IVS, is one of the significant factors of interactivity. The objective of this study is to identify critical factors of interactivity in IVS and to compare their effects in terms of timing flexibility. To achieve the objective, prior literature has been reviewed to establish a theoretical framework, and twelve active users of IVS have been interviewed to develop research model of IVS. Finally, an online survey has been conducted to verify the research model. The results indicate that Technical Factor, Communication Factor, and Contents Factor of IVS are found to be the important interaction factors in IVS; and their impacts on the intention to use IVS were found to be affected by timing flexibility. This paper ends with theoretical and practical implications of study results.
The purpose of this exploratory study is to examine if the application of smart technology(ST) would assist adjustment to the nursing home facilities in the elderly. Since there is not much previous research on this subject, we generated survey questionnaires on our own. Data were collected from the survey of 127 employees at 6 nursing homes including geriatric care workers, social workers and nurses who provide direct as well as indirect care services. Results showed that the utilization of ST would benefit the areas of family relationship support, health support, leisure support, and physical environment adjustment. As for physical environment adjustment, study participants reported that ST would help elders familiarize employees and find directions for specific space the most. As for health support, ST would be best utilized as a security sensor and program alarm system. As for support for family relationship, ST was expected to be utilized as looking at family pictures and playing with self pictures/videos. As for leisure support, ST was expected to assist elders to listen to music and watch movies/TV. These results were different according to the characteristics of the participants and the smartifacts. These results of the study will show the direction for more in-depth studies on application of smart technology for the elderly in the future.
Human beings experience the outside world through senses and have developed various ways of representation to preserve what they've experienced. The rapid progress of digital technology has opened a new era of representation technology, and furthermore, is functioning as a technology which offers new experiences. The sensory experiences through the sense of sight, which humans depend on more than 70% to perceive the outside world, have been becoming the center of representing the reality as the 3-D graphics technology has been growing, and developing by being grafted onto different areas of study. Various technologies to express the sense of reality, such as the technology to reinforce the virtual reality and to represent it in the reality, computer graphic, TUI technology, and five sensory technologies which apply humans' senses, are making advancement based on humans' visual features and sensory elements. In particular, the 3-D technology to display solidness provides not only representation but also new sensory experiences, and is emerging as the key technology to image contents. However, compared to the development of technology of 3-D graphics, there have been few basic studies on the principles of the sense of vision. Therefore, in this study, the principles and elements to sense videos will be examined. The sensory features of 3-D images to represent the sense of reality will be researched into, especially focusing on the experiential and physiological elements to sense 3-D structures, and the physical and psychological elements to sense shapes, which might be hopefully the basic study for producing 3-D contents.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the learning effects of video demonstration in a multitude of video screens in a science class. To examine this, an experiment from the first year science textbook was chosen, which looked at the relationship between electrical voltage and electrical current. Three experimental groups were used for the purpose of this study: 1/ a control group which used experimental still photos during a traditional class. 2/ experimental group A which used videos in a single screen, and 3/ experimental group B which used a multitude of video screens to demonstrate their effects. Post test learning effects was then carried out on each group related to the units. The results showed an improvement in grade for all groups. Experimental group B showed the most significant result, followed by the experimental group A. The control group showed the least significant grade improvement. In conclusion, the study revealed that the utilization of video demonstration in a science class is very useful and can be adapted in different forms in class. To enhance the effects of the learning method in conveying efficient meaning, versatile methods should be used to stimulate and heighten students' interests by mixing still photographs and video demonstration with various screen composition with the help of information technology.

This study was conducted to identify the effects of baby care using dolls on nursing students' major satisfaction, class satisfaction, and knowledge of newborn care. A quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group, pretest-posttest design was used. The subjects of the study were 95 nursing college students who agreed to participate. The control group (n=47) received lecture education consisting of watching newborn videos while the experimental group (n=48) received a practical education involving caring for a doll resembling an infant. Data were collected from March to May, 2019 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, χ2-tests, and t-tests with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. The major satisfaction score of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group, but it was not statistically significant (t=1.64, p=.107). The score for class satisfaction differed significantly between the experimental group and control group (t=2.08, p=.043). The knowledge of newborn care score for the experimental group was higher than that for the control group, and there was a statistically significant difference (t=-5.82, p<.001). Overall, the results show that baby care using a doll has positive effects on class satisfaction and knowledge of newborn care. In the future, it will be necessary to develop and apply effective teaching methods in line with the times.

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether standardized patient(SP) can be used as a reliable examiner in Objective Structured Clinical Examination(OSCE). 4 SPs and 4 faculties who have more than 2 years experience of OSCE scoring were selected. For 1 assignment 2 members of faculty and 2 SPs were designated as raters. SPs were educated for assessing 2 technical skills, male Foley catheter insertion and wound dressing, for 8 hours (4 hours / day, each topic). The definition, method, cautions and complications for each of procedural skills were covered in the education. Theoretical lectures, video learning, faculty demonstration and practical training on mannequins were employed. The 8 raters were standardized for an hour with simulated OSCE scoring using previous videos on the day before the OSCE. Each assessment was composed of 14 checklists and 1 global rate. The allotted time for each assignment was 5minutes and for evaluation time 2 minutes per student. The evaluation from the faculty and SPs were compared and analyzed with the GENOVA program. The overall generalizability coefficient (G coefficient) was 0.839 from two cases of OASTS. The reliability of the raters was high, 0.946. The inter-rater agreement between faculty group and SP group was 0.949 for checklist and 0.908 for global rating. Therefore SPs can play a role of raters in OSCE for procedural skills, if they are given the appropriate training.

This study suggested a method of detecting an incident inside tunnel by using camera that is installed within the tunnel. As for the proposed incident detection method, a static object, travel except vehicles, smoke, and contra-flow were detected by extracting the moving object through using the real-time background image differencing after receiving image from the camera, which is installed inside the tunnel. To detect the moving object within the tunnel, the positive background image was created by using the moving information of the object. The incident detection method was developed, which is strong in a change of lighting that occurs within the tunnel, and in influence of the external lighting that occurs in the entrance and exit of the tunnel. To examine the efficiency of the suggested method, the experimental images were acquired from Marae tunnel and Expo tunnel in Yeosu of Jeonnam and from Unam tunnel in Imsil of Jeonbuk. Number of images, which were used in experiment, included 20 cases for static object, 20 cases for travel except vehicles, 4 cases for smoke, and 10 cases for contra-flow. As for the detection rate, all of the static object, the travel except vehicles, and the contra-flow were detected in the experimental image. In case of smoke, 3 cases were detected. Thus, excellent performance could be confirmed. The proposed method is now under operation in Marae tunnel and Expo tunnel in Yeosu of Jeonnam and in Unam tunnel in Imsil of Jeonbuk. To examine accurate efficiency, the evaluation of performance is considered to be likely to be needed after acquiring the incident videos, which actually occur within tunnel.
As the full-motion videos in MPEG are widely available nowadays, an editor that could easily edit such kind of media data is required to develop various multimedia applications. In order to concatenate and apply a transition effect to two video streams encoded in MPEG, they should be decoded first since there are dependencies in the frames in MPEG-encoded video stream. Since this decode-edit-encode process requires a huge amount of computing/storage resources, a new editing scheme that could apply various transition effects to MPEG video streams directly while keeping the quality of video data is strongly required. This paper proposes a new editing scheme that could apply three transition effects (such as fade-in, fade-out, and dissolve) to MPEG video streams in a compressed domain. In the proposed scheme, an extension of previous method in which the frames are partially decompressed and transition effects are applied is adopted for I- and P-frames. In addition, a new processing scheme for B-frame that could apply the transition effects in DCT domain directly using an approximation of motion compensation based on the motion vector to reference frames. Since this processing scheme could apply the transition effects in a compressed domain directly, the editing process could be speed-up about $3{\sim}4$ times faster than previous decode-edit-encoding method while keeping the quality of video data as good as the source data. The proposed scheme could be used to build a software-only MPEG video editing system that helps to edit MPEG video data even on a low-cost desk-top computer.
Since the 20th century, it was often announced that a painting was dead, but it is still alive. Even in the epoch of recently increasing virtuality, painting is still appealing, consistently pursed by many with a thirst. Thus, it is said that the mission of a picture is to maintain its reality without being trapped in virtuality. In the history of Western painting spanning over several hundreds of years the myriad of techniques and styles have emerged, going though a huge variety of changes: namely, its not possible any longer to find the new ways of expression in painting. Hence, painters today feel that it becomes more gradually difficult for them to execute something. In the midst of swiftly changing, diversely evolving trends of contemporary art, the painters incessantly pose a question why they go on working on painting, and seek to find its answer. Why the painters still try to say something about painting? Is that because they consider it the quintessence of fine arts or think that it is in no way possible or meaningful to comment on fine arts without relying on painting? If then, is there any avenue of escape for the painting? The question of the 'crisis of painting' is still raised, when reviewing the rapidly changing conditions of inventing artworks. That is also why the recent works failed to offer a conceptually unified, universally shared perspective of painting. Moreover, painting is left to shrink comparatively with the pervasive existence of videos and installations briskly employing digital images and technologies in their creations. Whats more problematic is the fact that there is a growing sense of crisis not only in the sphere of painting hut also in the entire realm of art. As the organizers and curators of big-scale exhibitions and art projects tend to exploit their space spectacularly, focusing primarily on their abilities to control the space, there is a pervasive notion amongst them that painting is a medium that is not properly to suit such purposes and requests. Today, the death of painting is, in fact, the death of modernist painting, which assumed a central role in the history of art for a considerable amount of time, rather than the death of painting itself. Employing a new paradigm of invention, a picture is now entering a new domain which is perhaps unknown to us. Moving beyond the stereotypical concepts of painting, physical property and flatness, pictures today reveal the introduction of time and space and the penetration of new media such as installation, photography, video and the Internet. Despite such trends, the dexterity and tactile capability of painters is still to be considered significant in the future. The renewal of painting is made in an entirely unexpected manner and place.

The purpose of this study was to explore factors associated with smartphone dependence among adults in their 20s. The data were derived from the 2017 Survey on Smartphone Over-dependence conducted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency. There were 3,684 participants. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and weighted hierarchical multiple regression analysis. For the results, factors related with higher smartphone dependence of participants were duration (β=.18, p=.000) and frequency (β=.04, p=.000) of usage, gaming (β=.15, p=.000), watching videos (β=.09, p=.000), mobile shopping (β=.05, p=.000), working (β=.05, p=.010), e-mailing (β=.13, p=.000), and sports betting (β=.07, p=.000). Music (β=-.07, p=.000) and adult content (β=-.07, p=.000) significantly reduced their smartphone dependence. SNS (Social Networking Services) (β=.01, p=.358) and instant messengers (β=-.02, p=.330) were not factors related to smartphone dependence. However, instant messengers were the most used by participants and had a strong correlation with working (r=.55, p=.000). This study shows that smartphone usage patterns related with smartphone dependence among adults in their 20s are different from those of children and adolescents. These results could be used to more deeply understand smartphone dependence among adults in their 20s and plan early detection and prevention and care of dependence.
