Recognition of Human Facial Expression in a Video Image using the Active Appearance Model

  • Tracking human facial expression within a video image has many useful applications, such as surveillance and teleconferencing, etc. Initially, the Active Appearance Model (AAM) was proposed for facial recognition; however, it turns out that the AAM has many advantages as regards continuous facial expression recognition. We have implemented a continuous facial expression recognition system using the AAM. In this study, we adopt an independent AAM using the Inverse Compositional Image Alignment method. The system was evaluated using the standard Cohn-Kanade facial expression database, the results of which show that it could have numerous potential applications.

Implementation of RTP/RTCP for Teleconferencing System and Analysis of Quality-of-Service using Audio Data Transmission (영상회의 시스템을 위한 RTP/RTCP 구현 및 오디오 데이터 전송을 위용한 QoS 분석)

  • This paper deseribes the desihn and the implementation of the Realtime Transport Protocol(RTP)/ Rdaltime Control Protocol(RTCP) (RFC 1889,1890) that is used to transmit the audio/video data to any destination and to feedback the Quality of Service (QoS) information of the received media data to the sender, in the teleconferencing systems proposed by ITU-T. These protocols are implemented with multi thead technique and run on top of UDP/IP-Multicast through the socket interface as the underlying protocol. The upper layer is impelmented such that in can be accessed by the H245 comference control protocol. The RTP packetizes the digitized audio/video data from the encoder info a fixed format, and multieast to the participants. The RTCP monitors RTP packets and extracts the QoS values from it such as round-trip delay, jiter and packet loss to form RTCP packets and non periokically sends them to the sender site. In this Paper, we also descritx the study of measurement and analysis for QoS factors that observed on performing teleconferencing system over Internet. The results from this experiment is indicate that RTT and Jitter value are acceptable even entwork load is high. However, it appears that packet loss rate is high in daytime and most losses periods have length one or two.

The study on Multicast Cell Scheduling for Parallel Multicast packet switch with Ring Network (링망을 이용한 병렬 멀티캐스트 패킷스위치에서의 멀티캐스트 셀 스케줄링에 관한 연구)

  • A goal of a BISDN network is to provided integrated transport for a wide range of applications such as teleconferencing, Video On Demand etc. There require multipoint communications in addition to conventional point-to-point connections. Therefore multicast capabilities are very essential in multimedia communications. In this paper, we propose a new multicast cell scheduling method on the Parallel Multicast Packet Switch with Ring network: PMRN which are based on separated HOL. In this method, we place two different HOLs, one for unicast cells and the other for multicast cells. Then using non-FIFO scheduling, we can schedule both unicast cells and multicast cells which are available at the time in the input buffer. The simulation result shows that this method reduces the delay in the input buffer and increases the efficiency of both point-to-point network and ring network and finally enhances the bandwidth of the overall packet switch.   • 주문형 비디오나 원격 회의 그리고 원격 강의와 같은 멀티미디어 애플리케이션들은 비디오나 오디오와 같은 멀티미디어 트래픽을 유발한다. 이러한 멀티미디어 트래픽의 가장 큰 특성은 폭주성이다. 폭주성은 통신망의 효율을 떨어뜨리는 매우 중요한 요인이며, 따라서 폭주성에 대처할 수 있는 효율적인 대역폭 할당 정책이 통신망 관리에서 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 멀티캐스팅 방식의 온라인 비디오 애플리케이션에 대해서 대역폭 완화 작업이라고 불리우는 효율적이고 유용한 대역폭 할당 방안을 설계하였다. 본 논문에서 제시하는 새로운 대역폭 완화 기법은 비디오 서버에서 이미 전송된 데이타의 특성을 이용하여 대역폭 완화창의 크기를 조절하는 동적인 기법이다. 몇 가지 MPEG 트레이스들로 실험했을 때 기존의 온라인 대역폭 완화 기법과 비슷한 성능을 보이고, 특히 멀티캐스팅 방식의 온라인 비디오 서비스에 대해서는 서버의 자원 효율성을 향상시킴을 알 수 있었다. Abstract All of the multimedia applications such as VOD, teleconferencing, and tele-lecturing invoke multimedia traffic like video or audio traffic. The most important characteristic of these multimedia traffic is the burstiness property. So, bandwidth management is becoming the major part of network management. In this paper, we propose a new and efficient bandwidth management technique called bandwidth smoothing for the multicasting on-line video applications. Our bandwidth smoothing technique reduces as much of the network bandwidth required to transmit on-line video traffic as previously proposed methods, and improves the server's resource utilization especially for the multicast on-line video services.

Eye Contact System Using Depth Fusion for Immersive Videoconferencing (실감형 화상 회의를 위해 깊이정보 혼합을 사용한 시선 맞춤 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose a gaze correction method for realistic video teleconferencing. Typically, cameras used in teleconferencing are installed at the side of the display monitor, but not in the center of the monitor. This system makes it too difficult for users to contact each eyes. Therefore, eys contact is the most important in the immersive videoconferencing. In the proposed method, we use the stereo camera and the depth camera to correct the eye contact. The depth camera is the kinect camera, which is the relatively cheap price, and estimate the depth information efficiently. However, the kinect camera has some inherent disadvantages. Therefore, we fuse the kinect camera with stereo camera to compensate the disadvantages of the kinect camera. Consecutively, for the gaze-corrected image, view synthesis is performed by 3D warping according to the depth information. Experimental results verify that the proposed system is effective in generating natural gaze-corrected images.

A study on the multicasting algorithm for radix-2 tree ATM switch (Radix-2 트리 ATM 스위치를 위한 멀티캐스팅 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • A wide class of networking application services, such as video teleconferencing, VOD, LAN bridging, and distributed data processing require multipoint communications. The essential component inteh network to achieve this is a multicast packet switch which is capable of packet replication and switching. In this paper, we propose an efficient mukticast addressing scheme using the smallest number of routing bits which is deterministic lower bound. The new scheme performs all point-to-multipoint connection in radix-2 tree ATM switch like banyan network. Also, we provide a simple radix-2 switch block diagram for achieving our algorithm. And we investigate several addressing schemes for implementing multicasting in radix-r tree ATM switch and evaluate several performance factors, such as complexity of the additional header bits, requirement of the internal speedup and complexity of the major hardware.

  • In this paper we designed a high speed wireless multiple access protocol, which is suitable for future multimedia wireless LAN systems which support high quality video teleconferencing, telephony and graphic databases. In the proposed protocol, Slotted-ALOHA protocol is used for transmitting random data packets and the packet reservation multiple access(PRMA) protocol for transmitting periodic data packets. The use of minislot is introduced for the reservation scheme. In order to measure the performance characteristic of the proposed protocol, a simulator is designed using an object oriented programming language, C++, and an exhaustive simulation study is carried out. From the simulation results, it is observed that the proposed protocol and the existing PRMA protocol have almost the same delay characteristic when network traffic is low. However, the proposed protocol is superior to the PRMA protocol when traffic becomes higher. The proposed protocol and the results can be utilized for the design of the wireless access systems and future broadband wireless LANs.

  • To support various multimedia applications. MuX server produces object-oriented and consistent interfaces for creation, copying, splitting, mixing and interleaving of streams. In this paper, we describes distributed connection structures and centralized connection structures which can be used in building a teleconferencing system using basic objects of MuX and compares merits and demerits of each structure from the viewpoint of multimedia related performance like delay and synchronization.

  • Large-scale distributed applications based on Internet and client/server applications have to deal with series of problems such as load balancing, unpredictable communication delays, partial errors, and networking failures. Therefore, sophisticated applications such as teleconferencing, video-on-demand, and concurrent software engineering require an abstracted communication. In this paper, we present our design, implementation and performance analysis of group communication using the CORBA ORB, JAVA RMI, Socket based on distributed computing. We anticipate our study may apply to the various field of applications such as fault-tolerant client/server system, groupware, scalable text retrieval system, and financial information systems.

  • The Digital Audio-Visual Council(DAVIC) that was established to develop useful multimedia communication services has completed the specifications for providing on-demand services such as Movie on Demand(MoD), Teleshopping and accepting Internet service. And then they are proceeding the works to suport converstional communcation services like Plain Old Telecphone Service(POTS), Video telephone, Video teleconferencing. In this paper, we prpose an efficient terminal architecture which can provide conversational multimedia communication services on DAVIC Set-Top Box (STB) environments. To apply the implemented conversational terminal to the multipoint communication environment, we considered the factors of Qurlity of Services(QoS) that determine grade of conversational communication service. We also present the inter-working scheme and that system structure to satisfy QoS by using new MPEG video bridge which gurantees end to end delay requirements as major element of QoS for achieving the real time communication and does not accompany visual quality degradation.
