The properties and DNA structures of R plasmids differ depending on the species of the fish-pathogens Aeromonas hydrophila, A. salmonicida, Edwardsiella tarda, Enterococcus seriolicida, Pasteurella piscicida and Vibrio anguillarum. However, some R plasmids with the same resistance markers in similar DNA structures were found in A. hydrophila and E. tarda, as well as in A. hydrophila and A. salmonicida. R plasmids from V. anguillarum were classified into three groups according to their DNA structures. The first group was detected before 1977, the second from 1980 to 1983, and the third from 1989 to 1991. R plasmids have been retained within P. piscieida having the same DNA structures and detected at various locations and times. E. seriolicida strains carrying the same R plasmids, which were encoded with resistance to macrolide antibiotics(MLs), lincomycin(LIM), and TC, and to MLs, LIM, and CP. were distributed in yellowtail farms in various districts. The chloramphenicol-resistance(cat) gene of the R plasmids of P. piscicida was classified as CAT type I. The cat of the R plasmids of E, tarda. A. salmonicida was classified as type II. The cat of R plasmids of V. anguillarum was classified into two types. One type detected before 1977, was classified as CAT IV and the other type, detected after 1980, was classified as CAT II. Tetracycline-resistance (tet) V. anguillarum, isolated before 1977 and after 1981, was classified as Tet B and Tet G, respectively. The class D tet gene was widely distributed in R plasmids from fish-pathogens A. hydrophila, E. tarda, P. piscicida, and also V. anguillarum isolated after 1989.

To study the seasonal variation of heterotrophic bacteria near the surrounding seawater of Porphyra forming area, samples were collected in the intertidal waters of Mokp'o of the Yellow Sea from February to December, 1990. Annual distribution of heterotrophic bacteria ranged from $7.5\times10^2\;to\;1.1\times10^5\;cfu/ml,$ annual distribution of physiological characteristic bacteria ranged from $5.0\times10\;to\;4.34\times10^4\;cfu/ml$ for proteolytic bacteria, from 0 to $1.35\times10^4\;cfu/ml$ for lipolytic bacteria and from 0 to $1.2\times10^4\;cfu/ml$ for amylolytic bacteria. Sixty-five percent of isolates from seawater were rods, and $76.7\%$ of isolates were Gram-negative. Most isolates were mesophiles and showed utilization of various carbon sources such as glucose, maltose, lactose, sucrose and arabinose. Most isolates also showed tolerance to a broad range of salt concentration. Dominant genus in seawater were Flavobacterium spp., in February, Moraxella spp., Acinetobacter spp. in March, Bacillus spp., Chromobacterium spp., Micrococcus spp., Vibrio spp. in July and Chromobacterium spp., Micrococcus spp., Bacillus spp. in November.
In this study, we determined the changes in microbial numbers in solar salts according to the manufacturing process and storage duration. The salt samples were harvested from salt farms in Shinan (area 2) and Yeonggwang (area 1). They were serially diluted ten-fold and then placed on 4 kinds of cultivable media (mannitol salt agar, eosin methylene blue, plate count agar, and trypticase soy agar). After incubation, we obtained 62 halophilic isolates from the salt samples. Coliform and general bacteria were not detected in all salt samples. By 16S rRNA sequencing analysis, we found 12 kinds of halophilic bacteria belonging to the genera Halobacillus, Halomonas, Bacillus, Idiomarina, Marinobacter, Pseudoalteromonas, Vibrio, Salinivibrio, Virgibacillus, Alteromonas, Staphylococcus and some un-known stains. In our study, we discovered two novel species that have a 16S rDNA sequence similarity below 97%.

To understand the application in farm for the fish aquaculture, we investigated biological and pathological traits on red sea bream Pagrus major which were reared in each copper-alloy net cage and the synthetic fiber net cage for 9 months. Two groups of cage were made and set in Yokji-eup, Tongyoung, Gyeongsangnam-do in size of 25 m in diameter and 10 m of depth. Survival rate of the red sea bream in the rearing copper-alloy net cage and synthetic fiber cage showed 99.75% and 99.70% respectively, there was no significant difference. Daily weight growth rate in each net was shown to 2.13 g/day and 1.65 g/day. Health analysis by blood composition analysis showed a favorable result in the copper-alloy net cage rather than in the synthetic fiber net. Bioaccumulation of heavy metal such as Cu and Zn especially in gonad was higher than other organ. Bioaccumulation of Cu and Zn in the muscle was lower compared to the permitted standard for food safety. Pathogenic infection test discovered Microcotyle tai for parasite, V. alginolyticus and other five species for bacteria. But there was a little bit difference of bacteria infection in copper-alloy net cage and copper-alloy net cage is expected to be has antibacterial effect. Thus, copper-alloy net cage can be applied to farm considering its system stability, recycling, antibiosis and food safety.
This study was conducted to evaluate the purification efficacy by filter and ultra violet (UV) irradiation against inlet and outlet seawater of the land based fish farm. Purification efficacies for inlet seawater (50$\ell$/min) has been examined with filter of 60$\mu$m pore size and UV irradiation at an average dose 0.5 mWS/$cm^2$ for 5 months. For outlet seawater filter of 90 $\mu$m pore size only was used. Temperature, salinity, pH, $NO_3-N,\;NO_2-N,\;NH_4-N,\;PO_4-P$, DO and COD of inlet and outlet seawater in the system were not influenced. However, the removing rate of suspended solid and turbidity of inlet seawater were appeared to be $48.7\~65.6\%$ (average $51.9\%$) and $33/3\~42/5\%$ (average $34.8\%$) after passing through screen filter respectively. Also, germicidal efficiency to the total bacteris and Vibrio species were $16.7\~20.2\%$ (average $19.2\%$) $20.0\~21.9\%$ (average $20.9\%$) respectively after passing through UV irradiation. After passing through drum filter of 90$\mu$m pore size, suspended solid and turbidity of outlet seawater were appeared to be $42.7\~52.6\%$ (average $46.9\%$), $27.7\~29.9\%$ (average $28.3\%$), respectively.
To investigate the variations of physico-chemical factors and microbial population, in ten stations at water region of coastal area of Chagwi-Do, Nutritive salts, water temperature, transparency, suspended solid, salinity, COD, DO, pH, heterotrophic bacteria, were analysed three times in September, November in 2004 and February in 2005. Heterotrophic bacteria in surface water was $3.5\times10^1\sim1.16\times10^3\;cfu\;mL^{-1}$, $0.4\times10^1\sim5.6\times10^1\;cfu\;mL^{-1}$, $0.4\times10^1\sim7.8\times10^1$ and bottom water counted $4.5\times10^1\sim1.0\times10^3\;cfu\;mL^{-1}$, $1.2\times10^1\sim1.5\times10^2\;cfu\;mL^{-1}$, $0.4\times10^1\sim4.4\times10^1\;cfu\;mL^{-1}$ in September, November 2004 and February 2005, respectively. The dominant species isolated from the coastal area of Chagwi-Do were identified to be Vibrio spp., Pseudoalteromonas spp. Psuedomonas spp, Bacillus spp., Alteromonas spp., Aeromonas spp., Psychrobacter spp., and Flavobacterium spp.

Level of microbial contamination was examined in four fish farms of Jeju east coast for sanitary indication of bacterial contamination such as heterotrophic bacteria, Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella spp., Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus and total coliforms. The samples were collected and investigated from June to October in 2007. Bacterial species of S. aureus, B. cereus and Salmonella spp. were frequently detected from the seawater of above fish farms. Salmonella spp., S. aureus, B. cereus were detected in the range of $0{\sim}4.3{\times}l0^3,\;0{\sim}2.7{\times}l0^4,\;0{\sim}7.6{\times}l0^3$ CFU/ml, respectively, from the fish feed used in all four selected farms. Additionally, Salmonella spp., S. aureus, B. cereus were detected in oliver flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) of these farms, however total coliforms and E. coli O157:H7 were not detected during our experimental period. For the production of microbiologically safe and healthy oliver flounder, proper quality control of feed, sanitation programs, and continuous monitoring of microorganism are essential practices, which required to include in the farm management system.
