Transfer Path Analysis (TPA) is commonly used, by car makers and parts suppliers, analysis process to root the cause of NVH problems. In general, TPA is an analyzing technique to find the contributing factors of noise/vibration problems, and their transfer path in vehicle. However, not only TPA is used to analyze the source of NVH problems but also is used to predict NVH performance prior to the proto vehicle, or to set the development target for next new vehicle. Automotive parts manufacturing companies have to set NVH performance target when developing new systems just as car makers have NVH target set for new vehicle. Nevertheless, most of components are currently being developed based on subjective evaluation without an objective target. To judge the suitability of using TPA to set NVH target of electric parking brake, this research analyzed the transfer path by setting them in two points of view; Chassis Module and Electric Parking Brake, and comparing the measured value and calculated value. From this result, NVH target of electric parking brake will be approached in level of vehicle, system and component.
In a practical vibration isolation system, vibration is transmitted from the source to the receiver through several paths such as more than one inter-connected point and multi-degree of freedom at each connection point. Therefore, the major path investigation for vibration transmission among them is often required in a point of view of isolation. For the path analysis of multi-dimensional vibration isolation system, it is useful to employ the concept of vibration power in high frequency range where radiation of noise from the receiver structure is concerned. The idea is simple to understand and formulate but rather complicated to apply in practice. For an accurate estimation of power flow especially over a high frequency range, it is well known in theory that rotational motions should be taken into consideration together with translational motions at inter-connected points. In reality, however, power transmissions related to rotational terms are often neglected mainly due to difficulties in the instrumentation. In this paper, necessary formula and measurable mechanical quantities for vibration power analysis will be reviewed and experimental results with rotational terms included for compressor system in a commercial air conditioner will be shown.
This paper describes a mini linear optical pickup actuator. To reduce the size, inner yokes are designed to guide the mover and outer yokes of permanent magnets are removed. Magnetic circuit method is used to determine the thrust force. Virtual path method is proposed to analyze the open magnetic circuit analysis. The magnetic circuit of the proposed actuator can be a closed circuit due to the virtual path model of the outer magnetic flux. The validity of virtual path method is evaluated by comparing to the FEM analysis. Structural vibration is investigated using FEM and the design of the mover is modified to improve the vibration characteristic. Dynamic characteristic experiments shows that the performance of the proposed actuator is enough to be used as a coarse and fine seeking actuator simultaneously and the thrust force margin for loading a focusing actuator is guaranteed.

In this work, a new type of MR damper with additional flow path in piston is proposed and damping force characteristics are numerically evaluated. Flow-mode type MR damper is considered and mathematical model is established based on Bingham rheological model of MR fluid to obtain accurate prediction of damping force characteristics. Damping force of the proposed MR damper are calculated with respect to piston velocity and input current. In addition, investigation on damping force characteristics is carried out according to number of additional flow path and excellence of the proposed MR damper is demonstrated.

The paper deals with the accuracy comparison between two kinds of ultrasonic paths for flow rate measurement. In the Z-path, two transducers are installed on the opposite side of each other on a pipe, and the ultrasonic waves generated of one transducer propagate and arrive at the other one only through refraction. In the V-path, two transducers are installed on one side of a pipe, and the ultrasonic waves reflected at the inner wall of the pipe are received. The backgrounds were established to select one path to fit the usage by considering the advantages and disadvantages.

Reduction of structure-borne noise of the compartment in a car is an important task in automotive engineering. Transfer path analysis using vibroacoustic reciprocity technique or multiple path decomposition method has generally been used for structure-borne noise path analysis. These methods are useful in solving particular problem but do not quantify the effectiveness of vibration isolation of each isolator of a vehicle. To quantify the effectiveness of vibration isolation, the vibrational power flow has been used for a simple isolation system or a laboratory based isolation system. It is often difficult to apply the vibrational power flow technique to the complex isolation system like a car. In this paper, a simple equation is derived for calculation of the vibrational power flow of an isolation system with multiple isolators such as a car. It is successfully applied to not only quantifying the relative contributions of eighteen isolators but also reducing structure-borne noise of a passenger car. According to the results, the main contributor of eighteen isolators is the rear roll mount of an engine. The reduced structure-borne noise level is about 5dBA.

In scroll compressors, there are two major noise sources. Sturctural path: excitation of the compressor housing by unbalance forces and forces generated by compression cycle. Gas cavity path: excitation of top cap by discharge gas pulsation. In this study, in order to analyze the radiated noise generated by the discharge gas pulsation, FEM/BEM model of the top cap is established. Measured pressure of discharge pulsation is introduced in the FEM model as the excitation and vibration response is calculated. Radiated sound pressure is then obtained by BEM method based on this vibration response. Results are compared with the measured data. It is shown that the trend of the noise radiation can be predicted in this approadch.

The ride quality investigation is on-going topic in the car industry since its global standard has not evaluated and it is difficult to point out one part that hinders the ride quality. Since the traditional transfer path analysis that is widely used in car industry to investigate the ride quality requires a lot of test time to process the full data so that there are problems to conduct in industry. Based on these disadvantages, new approaches have developed such as OPAX(operational path analysis with eXogeneous inputs) and OTPA(operational transfer path analysis) for last decades. The OTPA only requires the operational data for evaluate the contribution of vibration sources and the OPAX has advantage of using parametric model to estimate the operating load and needs a minimum set of extra tests with excitation. In this paper, for evaluating the hindrance of ride quality two methods are used and the result is compared with another result of a car having higher ride quality.
