Tension mask is a part of CRT type devices, which is installed right behind glass-made front panel. Numerous slits on the thin metal sheet enable the electron beams emitted from posterior gun to be focused, resulting in enhanced definition. Flattened and enlarged displays necessitate the imposition of pretension on the masks, in order to improve the robustness of display quality against vibration or impact. High temperature assembly process subsequent to pretensioning, however, degenerates creep resistance of mask material, and common mask may become susceptible to undesirable elongation due to creep. Once tensile stress becomes high enough to induce creep deformation, pretension is substantially loosened. In this study, tension mask assembly is modeled as a combined structure of beams and wire array, and a numerical simulation is attempted for pretensioning followed by high temperature process. Based on a model study, creep occurrence is found to be probable and its adverse influence is quantified. As fur maintaining high tensile force, simply increasing pretension does not seem to be helpful. Instead, the structure of frame needs to be modified somehow, or material for mask needs to be selected properly.
The effect of pipe breaks in the secondary side is investigated as a part of the fuel assembly qualification program. Using the detailed dynamic analysis of a reactor core, peak responses for the motions induced from pipe breaks are obtained for a detailed core model. The secondary side pipe breaks such as main steam line and economizer feedwater line braksare considered because leak-before-break methodology has provided a technical basis for the elimination of double ended guillotine breaks of all high energy piping systems with a diameter of 10 inches or over in the primary side from the design basis. The dynamic responses such as fuel assembly shear force, bending moment, axial force and displacement, and spacer grid impact loads are carefully investigated. Also, the stress analysis is performed and the effect of the secondary side pipe breaks on the fuel assembly structural integrity under the faulted condition is addressed.
Work related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) became a major problem since 2000 in shipbuilding industry. WMSDs are known to be resulted from awkward postures, high repetitive motions, excessive forces, mechanical stress and vibration. Korean government enacted a law to require companies to take measures to prevent musculoskeletal disorders at work. If there are more than 10 incidences of WMSDs or 5 incidences which are more than 10 percent of all workers in a company, this law requires a company to implement an ergonomics program. A few large companies in shipbuilding industry have already implemented or are in the process of implementing an ergonomics program. This paper presents a case study of an implementation of an ergonomics program in a Korean shipbuilding company. We audited the process of the ergonomics program in this shipbuilding company four times for 3 years. Based on the findings, this paper presents effects and problems of an ergonomics program and improvement measures of them. These findings will help companies which want to implement an ergonomics program in the future.
In pressurized light water reactor fuel assembly, spacer grids support nuclear fuel rods both laterally and vertically. The fuel rods are supported by spacer grid springs and grid dimples that are located in the grid cell. The support system allows for some thermal expansion and imbalance of the fuel rods. The imbalance is absorbed by elastic energy to prevent coolant flow- induced vibration damage. Design requirements are defined and a design process is established. The design process includes mathematical optimization as well as practical design method. The shape of the grid spring is designed to maintain its function during the lifetime of the fuel assembly. A structural optimization method is employed for the shape design. Since the optimization is carried out in the linear range of finite element analysis, the optimum solution is verified by nonlinear analysis. A good design is found and the final design is compared with the initial conceptual design. Commercial codes are utilized for structural analysis and optimization.
Purpose: In this study, we propose the ESS process model which, in order to improve reliability of electronic equipment, can be referenced in both development and production phases. Methods: ESS guidelines such as MIL handbooks or private sector ESS guidelines are used for devising the proposed ESS model. Especially, proposed model is customized by using those references in order to be optimized in the domestic development and production phases. Results: ESS-related-requirements which is specified in the Technical Data Package(TDP) for the area of guided missile systems are analyzed. Current status of the requirement and screening strength are analyzed for those systems to show what kind of weak points should be improved. Conclusion: A ESS guideline which is applicable to the domestic weapon acquisition environment is proposed. As such, the necessity and detail guidelines of the proposed model are explained.
This paper proposes a mechanical model to describe the load-deformation responses of the reinforced concrete plate members under service load state. An Analytical method is introduced on the basis of the rotating crack model which considers equilibrium, compatibility conditions, load-strain relationship of cracked member, and constitutive law for materials. The tension stiffening effect in reinforced concrete structures is taken into account by the average tensile stress-strain relationship from the load-strain relationship for the cracked member and the constitutive law for material. The strain compatibility is used to find out the crack direction because the crack direction is an unknown variable in the equilibrium and compatibility conditions. The proposed theory is verified by the numerous experimental data such as the crack direction, moment-steel strain relationship, moment-crack width relationship. The present paper can provide some basis for the provision of the definition of serviceability for plate structures of which reinforcements are deviated from the principal stresses, because the present code defines the serviceability by the deflection, crack control, vibration and fatigue basically for the skeletal members. The proposed theory is applicable to predict the service load state behavior of a variety of reinforced concrete plate structures such as skew slab bridges, the deck of skew girder bridges.
A numerical scheme based on a mode superposition method is presented for the dynamic response analysis of a top-tensioned riser (TTR) under sheared current loads. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of the TTR have been calculated analytically for a beam with a slowly varying tension and pinned-pinned boundary conditions at the top and bottom ends. The lift coefficients and corresponding amplitudes used to estimate the vortex-induced modal force and damping for each mode were predicted via iterative calculations based on the input and output power balancing concept. Here, the power-in regions were controlled by the normal distribution function, for which the center was coincident with the lock -in location by local vortex-shedding, and the range was defined by the constant standard deviation for the reduced velocity by the local current speed. Finally, dynamic responses such as root-mean-squared displacement and stress were calculated using the mode superposition technique. In order to verify the presented scheme, a numerical calculation was performed for a TTR under an arbitrary linearly sheared current and linearly varying tension. A comparison with the results of the existing software showed that the presented scheme could give reliable and feasible solutions. Case studies were performed to investigate the effects of various current loads and tensions.
Recently, the application of non-steel materials in ships and offshore plants is increasing because of the development of various nonlinear materials and the improvement of performance. Especially, hyper-elastic materials, which have a nonlinear stress-strain relationship, are used mainly in marine plant structures or ships where impact relaxation, vibration suppression, and elasticity are required, while elasticity must be maintained, even under high strain conditions. In order to simulate and evaluate the behavior of the hyperelastic material, it is very important to select an appropriate material model according to the strain of the material. This study focused on the selection of material models for hyperelastic materials, such as rubber used in the marine and offshore fields. Tension and compression tests and finite element simulations were conducted to compare the accuracy of the nonlinear material models due to variations in the stretch ratio of hyper-elastic material. Material coefficients of nonlinear material models are determined based on the curve fitting of experimental data. The results of this study can be used to improve the reliability of nonlinear material models according to stretch ratio variation.

Curvic coupling of mill turret should maintain disk weight and the cutting resistance which occurs the machining operation and must also have power transmission function. In order to improve machining operation range, the ejecting distance from curvic coupling to the disk must increase as much as possible. But moment is increased by the lack of capacity of the curvic coupling. Increase of moment is the cause of vibration/noise and degradation of machining performance not only stability problem. The manufacturer of mill turret has no the design information between the ejecting distance and the cutting resistance with safety of curvic coupling. Therefore this study describes a finite element analysis model of mill turret using ANSYS workbench. The structural analyses and modal analyses with varying of the ejecting distances and cutting resistances are performed. Finally the equation for relationship between the critical ejecting distance and the cutting resistance is defined under 5 of the safety factor for the maximum von-Mises stress at the curvic coupling.

The mold transformers have been widely used in underground substations in large building and have some advantages in comparison to oil-transformer, that is low fire risk, excellent environmental compatibility, compact size and high reliability. In addition, the application of mold transformer for outdoor is possible due to development of epoxy resin. The mold transformer generally has cooling duct between low voltage coil and high voltage coil. A mold transformer made by one body molding method has been developed for small size and low loss. The life of transformer is significantly dependent on the thermal behavior in windings. To analyse winding temperature rise, many transformer designer have calculated temperature distribution and hot spot point by finite element method(FEM). Recently, numerical analyses of transformer are studied for optimum design, that is electric field analysis, magnetic field, potential vibration, thermal distribution and thermal stress. In this paper, the temperature distribution of 50 kVA pole mold transformer for power distribution are investigated by FEM program and the temperature rise test of designed mold transformer carried out and test result is analyzed compare to simulation data. In this result, the designed mold transformer is satisfied to limit value of temperature and the other property is good such as voltage ratio, winding resistance, no-load loss, load loss, impedance voltage and percent regulation.
