A Study on Quantitiative visualization of Vibration Mode Shape of Disk Brake by Using Stroboscopic ESPI (스트로보스코픽 전자 스페클 패턴 간섭법을 이용한 디스크 브레이크의 진동 모드의 정량적 가시화에 관한 연구)

  • Brake squeal noise has been a problem since the early days of motoring . It is important to obtain vibration mode shape for reduction of brake noise . Stroboscopic Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry is a very powerful measuring method for study of vibrating objects in static state compared with conventional methods because this method can give both resonance frequency and quantitative visualization of vibration mode shape at the same time. In this paper, we performed qualitative visualization and quantitative analysis of vibration mode shpae of disk brake by using stroboscopic ESPI and phase shifting method. The stroboscopic wavefronts are obtained by chopping continuous wave laser beam using acousto-optic modulator .Experiments were performed at the same constraint conditions as disk brake of the practical vehicle as far as possible. The experimental results of this paper show quantitative measurement of vibration mode shape and quantiative visualization of vibration amplitude of disk brake with 3D plotting.

  • Vibration problems in the Hard Disk Drive which is magnetic recording device have been raised gradually while HDD is required high density and low access time. As a typical thing, lateral bending or sway mode of supension causes tracking error, and therefore it is necessary to identify the accurate vibration characteristics of that mode. In this study, as the solution of vibration problem, decoupling sway mode and vicinity mode is dealt with. Shifting sway mode to high frequency region is studied.

  • Vibration modes obtained from a modal analysis can be better explained from a screw theoretical standpoint. A vibration mode can be geometrically interpreted as a pure rotation about the vibration center in a plane and as the twisting motion on a screw in a three dimensional space. This paper, presents the method to diagonalize a spatial stiffness matrix by use of a parallel axis congruence transformation. It also describes that the stiffness matrix diagonalized by a congruence transformation, can have the planes of symmetry depending on the location of the center of elasticity. For a plane of symmetry, any vibration mode can be expressed by the axis of vibration. Analytical solutions for the axis of vibration has been derived.

  • The electronic speckle pattern interferometer (ESPI) has been applied to many technical problems such as deformation and displacement measurement, strain visualization and surface roughness monitoring. In this study, we used an ESPI system based on the dual beam speckle interferometer method in order to measure in-plane displacement and vibration mode using the ESIP technique. This research was carried out for the purpose of applying the vibration analysis method employing Electro-Optic holographic interference technique to the vibration analysis of uniform rectangular cantilevers plate(SS400,STS304) with cantilevers span to breadth ratio of 150 by 75. And thickness of 1mm and 0.8mm respectively. We improved the ESPI technique in order to obtain the distribution of displacement component resolved in one direction through a CCD camera combined with an image processing system. To certify and to assess the accuracy in measuring by this ESPI, the results obtained with the speckle method and vibration mode analysis are to be compared with those results by Warbuton's Theoretical expression and vibration made in FEM analysis.

  • The vibration mode measurement test measures the natural vibration characteristics of the target specimen. The measured natural mode characteristics are compared with the numerical analysis result to verify the reliability of the numerical analysis. If necessary, it is used to supplement the numerical analysis model of the specimen used for the dynamic characteristic analysis. In this paper, the natural frequency and natural mode of the external fuel tank are respectively obtained through the vibration mode measurement test and the numerical analysis, using the finite element model. The results are compared to verify the reliability of the numerical analysis model of the external fuel tank to apply to the entire aircraft model. To measure the vibration mode of the test specimen, a bungee cord was used, to simulate the free boundary condition for the test specimen. And, 3-axis accelerometers were installed on the test specimen. The response characteristics of the test specimen were measured, by excitation with an impact hammer. As a result of the test, after performing the frequency response analysis on the response acceleration, the natural frequency of the test specimen and its vibration mode were confirmed. The reliability of the numerical analysis model was verified by comparing the frequency and vibration mode, obtained through the test and the numerical analysis.

  • The AVT under traffic-induced vibrations was carried out on Namhae Suspension bridge in Korea. Mode shapes as well as natural frequencies up to the 15th mode were acquired exactly, and the effect of traffic mass and temperature on measured natural frequencies was investigated. The results from the AVT are compared with those from forced vibration test(FVT) and FE analysis. (omitted)

  • Brake judder, one of low Sequency vibrations in brake system is determined by the excitation of Brake Torque Variation (BTV). The largest contributor to BTV is disc thickness variation. In this study, the static loads of brake torque at Suspension Mounting Points (SW) are obtained by the quasi-static analysis using DADS. The dynamic loads with frequency of BTV at SW are derived from correlation between forced vibration analysis with static loads and brake test results. And the accelerations at steering wheel were analyzed by forced vibration analysis with dynamic loads using commercial finite element program MSC/NASTRAN so that vibration characteristics of vehicle due to brake judder were investigated. Reliability of analysis results was verified through comparing the brake test results. Also, a parametric study with natural frequencies of frame, such as the 1st torsional mode and 1st bending mode, was conducted to reduce vibration amplitudes. As a result we could detect frame natural frequency conditions to improve vibration characteristics and obtained the frame model to reduce vibration amplitude.

  • A method is presented for the vibration analysis of steam turbine-generator rotor system based on the component mode synthesis method. The motion of each component of the system is described by superposing constraint mode associated with boundary coordinates and constrained normal modes associated with internal coordinates. This method using real fixed-interface modes allows for significant reduction in system model size while retaining the essential dynamic characteristics of the lower modes. The capability of this method is demonstrated in the natural frequency and unbalance response analysis of the steam turbine-generator rotor system in which the dynamics of the pedestal is considered. The results by the present method are compared with finite element method and trnasfer matrix method in terms of the accuracy and computing time.

  • A structural coupling method is developed for the dynamic analysis of a nonlinear structure with concentrated nonlinear hinge joints or sliding lines. Component mode synthesis method is extended to couple substructures and the nonlinear models. In order to verify the improved coupling method, a numerical plate model consisting of two substructures and torsional springs, is synthesized by using the proposed method and its model parameters are compared with analysis data. Then the coupling method is applied to a three-substructure-model with the nonlinearity of sliding lines between the substructures. The coupled structural model is verified from its dynamic analysis. The analysis results show that the improved coupling method is adequate for the structural nonlinear analyses with the nonlinear hinge and sliding mode condition.

  • In this study, dynamic analysis of a passenger car is carried out to analyze ride quality over a random road profile. The front suspension of the car is a MacPherson strut type and the rear suspension is a multi- link type. The following five different models are constructed and compared to see the effects of engine vibration and chassis flexibility in the ride quality. (1) one rigid chassis model, (2) a rigid chassis and rigid engine model, (3) a rigid engine and flexible chassis model with one vibration mode, (4) one flexible chassis model with six engine vibration modes and one chassis vibration mode, (5) one flexible chassis model with seven vibration modes and four static correction modes. The result shows that engine vibration modes and the first bending mode of the chassis are important in the ride quality.
