An investigation on thermohydraulic stability of flow oscillations in the CANada Deuterium Uranium-600(CANDU-6) heat transport system has been conducted. Flow oscillations in reactor coolant loops, comprising two heat sources and two heat sinks in series, are possibly caused by the response of the pressure to extraction of fluid in two-phase region. This response consists of two contributions, one arising from mass and another from enthalpy change in the two-phase region. The system computer code used in the investigation os SOPHT, which is capable of simulating steady states as well as transients with varying boundary conditions. The model was derived by linearizing and solving one-dimensional, homogeneous single- and two-phase flow conservation equations. The mass, energy and momentum equations with boundary conditions are set up throughout the system in matrix form based on a node-link structure. Loop stability was studied under full power conditions with interconnecting the two compressible two phase regions in the figure-of-eight circuit. The dominant function of the interconnecting pipe is the transfer of mass between the two-phase regions. Parametric survey of loop stability characteristics, i. e., damping ratio and period, has been made as a function of geometrical parameters of the interconnection line such as diameter, length, height and orifice flow coefficient. The stability characteristics with interconnection line has been clarified to provide a simple criterion to be used as a guide in scaling of the pipe.
The noise and vibration sources of rotary compressor for room air-conditioner are pressure pulsation of compression process, cavity resonance of inner space, structural radiation noise of shell and impact noise of discharge valve. Among them, pressure pulsation is very important noise and vibration source. Because it transferred various kinds of noise and vibration like as mentioned above. In this reason, muffler and resonator are used in order to absorb and remove these noises. But an analytical prediction using acoustic analysis does not coincident with the experimental result. The difference between analysis and actual state is due to the assumption of analysis. This paper covered with new concept of muffler design based on the turbulence kinetic energy of flow by using CFD. From this analysis, it is possible to decide the best position of discharge port of muffler. Therefore $2{\sim}3dB$ noise reduction effect is acquired in rotary compressor of 5000 BTU grade. Also new approach of resonator design is suggested. From this study, the characteristics of resonator and surge hole (a kind of resonator without pipe length) are identified. The former is useful for pure tone noise (narrow frequency band), and the latter is effective for broad frequency band. This paper shows that it is very available to use 3 dimensional analysis of resonator in order to predict more exact tuning frequency. The result is proved by a lot of experiments. From combination of fluid analysis and acoustic analysis, up stream position is effective location of resonator concerning turbulence motion of fluid.

In order to improve the performance of marine centrifugal pump, a centrifugal pump whose specific speed is 66.7 was selected for the research. Outlet diameter D2, outlet width b2, blade outlet angle β2, blade wrap φ and blade number z of the impeller were chosen as the variables. The maximum weighted average efficiency and the minimum vibration intensity at the base were calculated as objectives. Based on the Latin Hypercube method, the impeller was numerically optimized. The numerical results show that after optimization, the amplitudes of pressure fluctuation on the main frequency at different monitoring points decrease in varying degrees. The radial force on impeller decreases obviously under off-design flow rates and is more symmetrical during the operation of the pump. The variation of the axial force is relatively small, which has no obvious relationship with the rotating angle of the impeller. The energy performance and vibration experiment was performed for verifying. The test results show that the weighted average efficiency under 0.8Qd, 1.0Qd and 1.2Qd increases by 4.3% after optimization. The maximal vibration intensity at M1-M4 on the pump base reduced from 0.36 mm/s to 0.25 mm/s, decreasing by 30.5%. In addition, the vibration velocities of bracket in pump side and outlet flange also have significant reductions.

A conveying fluid cantilever pipe system subjected to an uniformly distributed tangential follower force and three moving masses upon it constitute this vibrational system. The influences of the velocities of moving masses, the distance between two moving masses. and the uniformly distributed tangential follower force have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a cantilever pipe system by numerical mettled. The uniformly distributed tangential follower force is considered within its ciritical value of a cantilever pipe without moving masses, and three constant velocities and three constant distance between two moving masses are also chosen. When the moving masses exist on pipe, As the velocity of the moving mass and distributed tangental force increases, the deflection of cantilever pipe conveying fluid is decreased, respectively. Increasing of the velocity of fluid flow make the amplitude of cantilever pipe conveying fluid decrease. After the moving mass passed upon the pipe, the tip displacement of pipe is influenced by the potential energy of cantilever pipe.

The objective of the present work is to develop a time-domain numerical method of broadband noise in a cascade of airfoils. This paper focuses on dipolar broadband noise sources, resulting from the interaction of turbulent inflows with the flat-plate airfoil cascade. The turbulence response of a two-dimensional cascade is studied by solving both of the linearised and the full nonlinear Euler equations employing accurate higher order spatial differencing, time stepping techniques and non-reflecting inflow/outflow boundary condition. The time-domain result using the linearised Euler equations shows good agreement with the analytical solution using the modified LINSUB code. Through the comparison of the nonlinear time-domain result using the full nonlinear Euler equations with the linear, it is found that the acoustic mode amplitude of the nonlinear response is less than that of the linear response due to the energy cascade from low frequency components to the high frequency ones. Considering the merits of the time-domain methods over the typical time-linearised frequency-domain analysis, the current method is expected to be promising tools for analyzing the effects of the airfoil shapes, non-uniform background flow, linear-nonliear regimes on the broadband noise due to turbulence-cascade interaction.

A new method is presented that uses guided wave techniques for sludge and blockages detection in long-range pipelines. Existing techniques have the limitations that the sludge position needs to be known a priori and the area to be inspected needs to be accessible. Two guided wave techniques have been developed which allow the sludge or blockages to be detected remotely without the need to access the specific location where the pipe is blocked, nor to open the pipe. The first technique measures the reflection of guided waves by sludge which can be used to accurately locate the blocked region; the second technique detects sludge by revealing the changes to the transmitted guided waves propagating in the blocked region or after it. The two techniques complement each other and their combination leads to a reliable sludge or blockage detection. Various types of realistic sludge have been considered in the study and the practical capabilities of the two techniques have been demonstrated.

Intense acoustic load is generated when a launch vehicle lifts off, causing the damaging vibrations at the launch vehicle or satellite within the fairing. This paper is concerned with the prediction of lift-off acoustic loads for a launch vehicle. As a test example, the lift-off acoustic load on the Korean launch vehicle, NARO, is predicted by the existing calculation tool, the modified Eldred's second method. Although the acoustic sources, assumed as point sources, are to be located along the center line of the exhaust plume when using the Eldred's prediction method, the exact location of the deflected center line of exhaust gas flow is not usually known. To search for the most appropriate source positions, six models of source line distribution are suggested and the acoustic load prediction results from these models are compared with the actual measurements. It is found that the predicted sound pressure spectrum of the Naro is the most similar to the measured data when the centerline of the turbulent kinetic energy contour is used as the source line.

We conduct the research for reducing aeroacoustic noise occurred when a vehicle operates in high speed situation without modifying the structural configuration such as deforming A-pillar's side curvature. We introduce PAU (Pneumatic Auxiliary Unit) which is a sort of air duct using intake air through radiator grill. According to our research, we can reduce overall noise levels around the surface of HSM (Hyundai Simplified Model). When a vehicleruns 100km/s, area-weighted acoustic power level (AWAPL) indicates 33dB without PAU. However with PAU, coverall AWAPL is decreased to 29dB which means we can improvesilentness approximately 12% compared to ordinary case. Moreover we conduct similar implementation to steering situation especially about yawing. In varioussituations, -10, 0, 10 degree of yawing, we observe 10% reduction in the upstream region of HSM but little increase in downstream region. It seems that inlet air overlap turbulent kinetic energy to surrounding flow. Even though downstream region's noise is louder than upstream region, overall AWAPL is still lower than conventional condition. We also apply this scheme to the real vehicle situation, then we get reasonable output which can support our research outputs.
