5년령의 중성화된 암컷 말티즈가 1개월 동안 지속된 전신적 발적, 탈모 및 소양감으로 내원하였다. 피부조직구증으로 진단되어 면역억제치료를 1개월 간 지속하였지만 다발성의 발적된 반 및 판 병변들이 새롭게 발생하였다. 피부병변에 대한 압박도말검사에서 림프종을 지시하는 원형세포들이 관찰되었다. 조직학적 검사에서는 종양세포들의 외피 및 부속구조물에 대한 친화성이 나타났다. 면역염색결과 종양세포들은 CD3에 대하여 양성, CD79a에 대해서는 음성반응을 나타내어 피부 상피친화성 T-세포 림프종으로 확진하였다. $70mg/m^2$의 lomustine을 2-3주 간격으로 총 2회 투여하였으며 부분적인 치료반응이 관찰되었다. 피부병변의 악화와 lomustine의 이용제한으로 gemcitabine ($500mg/m^2$, 1주일당 1회 30분간 혈관주입)을 이용한 화학치료를 시작하였다. 총 3회 치료가 실시되었으나 질병의 진행을 억제하지 못하였으며, 최초 lomustine 치료 69일 후 안락사 되었다.

To determine the prevalence of breed, age, and sex of canine primary glaucoma by comparing previous reports in Korea. We included the medical records of dogs diagnosed with primary glaucoma who visited the veterinary medical teaching hospital of Seoul National University (SNU) from January 2011 to December 2020 and investigated their breed, age, and sex. All the patients underwent a full ophthalmic examination. We analyzed the results using a binary logistic regression analysis based on the Jindo dog, which was close to the mean value of the primary glaucoma incidence rate. Of the 14,587 dogs treated at the veterinary medical teaching hospital of SNU, 107 (0.73%) were diagnosed with primary glaucoma. Glaucoma occurred in 14 breeds, including the American Cocker Spaniel, Shih Tzu, Maltese, Pomeranian, Jindo dog, Mixed Breed, Pekinese, Toy Poodle, Samoyed, Shiba Inu, Miniature Pinscher, Boston Terrier, Labrador retriever, and Yorkshire Terrier. The mean age of onset of primary glaucoma was 7.8 ± 2.3 years. Primary glaucoma was observed in 53 spayed females, 11 females, 38 castrated males, and five males. Regardless of neutralization, the ratio of females to males was 1.5:1. This study showed that primary glaucoma was significantly higher in American Cocker Spaniels and higher in Shih Tzus than other breeds in Korea; they had the highest incidence of primary glaucoma at 7 and 8 years of age, respectively. Therefore, the two breeds should be carefully monitored for the occurrence of primary glaucoma when they approach 7 years of age.

This study was performed to describe the radiographic and ultrasonographic features of retained surgical gauze known as gossypiboma in 9 dogs. Female dogs (n = 8) were at higher risk and seven out of the eight cases had a history of ovariohysterectomy. Seven dogs were symptomatic and the most common clinical signs were vomiting, anorexia, and inertia. A palpable abdominal mass was detected in six dogs. Radiographic signs included a localized abdominal mass with soft tissue density (n = 7) or a mass containing speckled gas (n = 1). Ultrasonography showed a hypoechoic mass with a hyperechoic center (n = 4), or a homogeneous hypoechoic mass (n = 3). The remaining dogs (n = 2) showed an intestinal wall surrounding a hyperechoic center. Regardless of the characteristics of a mass, an acoustic shadowing was accompanied from the center of a mass in all dogs. Ultrasonography also revealed complications such as adhesion between a mass and adjacent organs, and peritonitis and intestinal obstruction around a mass. The gossypiboma can be considered when a hypoechoic mass accompanying a hyperechoic center with acoustic shadowing is observed on ultrasound examination.

A poodle with clinical signs of colorectal disease was diagnosed as pneumatosis coli. In this dog, hypoadrenocorticism and immune-mediated hemolytic anemia concurred. Pneumatosis coli is one of the emphysematous gastrointestinal diseases. The etiology is unknown but mechanical, pulmonary and bacterial theories have been proposed. In pneumatosis coli, gas accumulates within submucosal or subserosal layer of colon or rectum, so intramural radiolucent gas is observed on abdominal radiographs. In this dog, intramural gas accumulation occurred in cecum. Definitive diagnosis was based on radiographic findings and an underlying cause was not elicited. Pneumatosis coli should be included into differential diagnosis for nonspecific colorectal signs.

We investigated the contamination of animal hospital floor, beauty table, computer keyboard, exam table, operation table and forcep handle by isolations of aerobic bacteria in small animal hospitals in Gwangju. The total number of aerobic bacteria was 52 isolates and Staphylococcus spp. (38 isolates) were the predominant isolates (69.71 %) of them. The prevalent contaminated areas were floor (17 isolates), beauty table (13 isolates) and computer keyboard (9 isolates). The detection of methicillin-resistant (mecA) gene, determined by PCR, showed that 3 of the 17 coagulase-negative Staphylococcus spp. (CNS) isolates possessed the mecA gene. For evaluating the antibiotic susceptibility patterns of the isolates, disk diffusion method was used. The majority of isolates showed high susceptibility to amoxicillin (92.1 %), ceftiofur (84.2%) and polymixin B (73.7%). Also they showed the high resistant to ampicilline (66.7%), penicillin (65%) and kanamycin (56.5%). These results suggest extensive contamination of aerobic bacteria in animal hospital environment.

About 8 year-old castrated male Yorkshire terrier was presented for evaluation of dysuria, stranguria, hemtauria, and pollakiuria. On history taking, dysuria first was observed three months ago and these signs were waxed and waned. Physical examination revealed mild left perineal swelling. On routine laboratory examination, no significant findings were identified. Positive contrast urogram identified peritoneal herniation of urinary bladder. Urinalysis showed proteinuria and hematuria. Urine sediment revealed epithelial cells, white blood cells and rod-shaped bacteria. Pseudomonas aeroginosa was isolated from urine obtained through cystocentesis, and had resistance against fourteen antibiotics. Cystitis caused by P. aeruginosa concurrent with cystolithiasis and perineal hernia was diagnosed. Cystotomy, herniorrhaphy and EDTA-Tris solution lavage of bladder were performed. The patient was recovered to normal condition 2 days after treatment. Two weeks later, bacterial culture of urine was negative and any abnormality in ultrasonogram and urinalysis was not observed except calcium oxalate dihydrate crystals.

A 5-year-old, 6.2 kg male mixed dog was presented to local animal hospital with a 6-month history of swelling, pain, inflammation, and lameness in the 5th digit of right hind limb. And a 7-year-old, 2.7 kg male Maltese dog was also presented to animal hospital with a 2-month history of nail deformities in the 5th digit of left hind limb. Abnormal growth or degeneration of the distal phalanges was observed at the 5th digit of hind limb in two dogs using radiographic examination. The masses in the digit were excised completely under local anesthesia. On histological examination of the digit masses, large well-circumscribed, unencapsulated round or irregular cystic neoplasms with/without inflammation were occupied in or adjacent area of the distal phalanx. These cysts were lined by stratified squamous epithelium that occasionally had a prominent granular cell layer. Based on the history, clinical signs, radiographic, gross and histopathologic features, these cases were diagnosed as nailbed epithelial inclusion cysts in the digit of dogs.

Three dogs (a 30-month-old spayed female English bulldog; a 12-month-old castrated male English bulldog; a 19-month-old castrated male Shar-pei dog) were presented to the Dana Animal Hospital Eye Center with clinical signs of blepharospasm, epiphora, and ocular discharge (serous to mucopurulent) in one or both eyes. Through ophthalmic examination, the dogs (5 eyes) were diagnosed with trichiasis caused by upper and lower eyelid entropion, including the lateral canthus. To correct upper and lower eyelid entropion, modification using a combination of the Stades forced granulation method for upper eyelid entropion and Hotz-Celsus procedure for lower eyelid entropion was performed in all cases. At the last follow-up, mean 274 days after surgery, clinical signs disappeared and no recurrences of entropion were observed in any of the 3 dogs (5 eyes). Therefore, the combination of the Stades forced granulation method and Hotz-Celsus procedure may be an effective treatment for trichiasis caused by upper and lower eyelid entropion in dogs.
