  • A new photoalignment material PNC, pole norbornene-2,3-dicarboxyolyl cholesterol, was synthesized and the electro-optical (EO) characteristics of the vortical-alignment (VA) liquid crystal display (LCD) photoaligned with UV exposure on the PNC surface were studied. EO characteristics of the photoaligned VA-LCD using a UV filter-less method was better than that of the UV filter method on the PNC surface for short UV exposure time. The response time of the photoaligned VA-LCD on the PNC surface without UV filter on the PNC surface is almost the same compared with the rubbing aligned VA-LCD.

  • This paper compares the control techniques for position control experiments of a fixible robot moving in a vertical plane. The flexible manipulator is modeled as an Euler-beroulli beam. Elastic deformantion is representedusing the assumed model method. A comparison function which satisfies all geometric and natural boundary conditions of a cantilever beam with an end mass is used as an assumed mode shape. Lagrange's equation is utilized for the development of a discretized model. Control schemes are developed using PID control, pole placement control and discrete Linear Quadratic Regulater(LQQ). The effectiveness of the developed control schems are compared using computer simulation in view of practical experiment. The simulation results show that PID control is very effective in practical implementation.

  • The HFMX((High Flux Macromolecular X-ray crystallography) beamline at Pohang Accelerator Laboratory uses beams from a multi-pole wiggler. Two horizontal and vertical slits relevant to high heat-load are installed at its front-end. In order to treat high heat-load with reducing beam scattering, the horizontal slit has two Glidcop blocks with a grazing incidence angle of $10^{\circ}$ of a grazing-incidence knife-edge configuration. The blocks adjust the slit gap by being translated along guides by two actuating bars, respectively. Water flowing through holes, drilled along the actuating bars, cools the heat-load of both blocks. The vortical slit has the same structure as the horizontal slit except its installation direction with respect to the vacuum chamber and its grazing incidence angle. By virtue of a pair of blocks translating on guides, no alignment between both blocks is required and the installed slits show stable operating performance. The cooling performance of the two slits has been also shown to be acceptable. In this paper, the detailed explanation for the design of the two slits is presented and their operating performance is discussed.

  • A palaeomagnetic study was carried out on Early through Late Cretaceous sandstones and volcanic sequences (the Songnaedong Formation, Chaeyaksan Volcanics, Konchonri Formation, and Jusasan Andesite it ascending order) from Konchonri area in the northern Milyang subbasin of the Kyongsang Basin, Korea. A high-temperature stable remanence with direction of $d=22.9^{\circ},\;i=59.1^{\circ}\;({\alpha}_{95}=3.0^{\circ})$ has been isolated and a corresponding pole was $71.6^{\circ}N,\;199.6^{\circ}E\;(A_{95}=4.2^{\circ})$. The characteristic high-temperature component resides in both hematite and magnetite. The primary nature of this remanence is confirmed from positive fold and reversals tests, The palaeopole is consistent with those of the Hayang Group in other parts of the Kyongsang Basin. A comparison of the palaeomagnetic pole position from the studied area with the contemporary pole from China west of the Tan-Lu fault presents that Konchonri area has experienced little latitudinal displacement nor vertical-axis block rotation relative to the Chinese blocks since the Cretaceous. Based on the formations indicating dual polarity, radiometric and paleontologic data, the magnetostratigraphic age of the studied sequence from the Songnedong Formation to the Jusasan Andesite ranges from upper Albian to lower Campanian reverse polarity chronozone. On the other hand, volcanic samples of the Chaeyaksan Volcanics and the Jusasan Andesite showed the scattered directions considered in group, even though individual sample showed a stable remanent magnetization in response to thermal demagnetization. It indicates that they have been reworked after acquisition of the stable remanent magnetization.

  • In this study, the characteristics of a horizontal sundial from the Joseon Dynasty were investigated. Korea's Treasure No. 840 (T840) is a Western-style horizontal sundial where hour-lines and solar-term-lines are engraved. The inscription of this sundial indicates that the latitude (altitude of the north celestial pole) is $37^{\circ}$ 39', but the gnomon is lost. In the present study, the latitude of the sundial and the length of the gnomon were estimated based only on the hour-lines and solar-term-lines of the horizontal sundial. When statistically calculated from the convergent point obtained by extending the hour-lines, the latitude of this sundial was $37^{\circ}$ $15^{\prime}{\pm}26^{\prime}$, which showed a 24' difference from the record of the inscription. When it was also assumed that a convergent point is changeable, the estimation of the sundial's latitude was found to be sensitive to the variation of this point. This study found that T840 used a vertical gnomon, that is, perpendicular to the horizontal plane, rather than an inclined triangular gnomon, and a horn-shaped mark like a vertical gnomon is cut on its surface. The length of the gnomon engraved on the artifact was 43.1 mm, and in the present study was statistically calculated as $43.7{\pm}0.7mm$. In addition, the position of the gnomon according to the original inscription and our calculation showed an error of 0.3 mm.

  • The closed movement produced vertically on the position of a motor is a notation movement produced by a notation force , while the horizontal movement can be shown by the coriolis force and the transverse force of realizing that the closed movement of the closed system is to be rotation motion. The notation movement is a vertical closed movement and by searching the equation which becomes an equation model, after comparing the simulation data from the equation model with data of a real device to use it into the computer simulation model, the additional variable elements were decided. As the result, the energy imbalance element is added as a variable about load which is relevant to friction coefficient and pole of a motor in the gravitational field. The simulation can be applied as a real physical law of the graphic game and haptic program.

  • This study analyzed the body shape of adult women aged 20 to 59 with a waist and hip circumference difference of 22.00 cm or more to characterize the lower body shape of women with slender waist. The researchers analyzed the data using SPSS 26.0. Among the lower body measurements of women with slender waists, the waist circumference was 70.79 cm and the hip circumference was 95.25 cm, with a difference of 24.56 cm between the waist and hip circumferences. We categorized the components of a slender waist body type into four factors: lower body horizontal, lower body vertical, lower calf horizontal, and hip and crotch length. We categorized women with slender waists into four body types: slender long crane legs, short thick lamb legs, short thin ladder legs, and thick long pole legs. In their twenties, many people have slender, long-legged lower body, but as they age, they are more likely to have thicker lower bodies and short, thin ankles. Body types with slender waist had larger proportions of abdominal and hip dimensions in the width, circumference, and thickness categories based on waist dimensions than those with average or thick waists.

  • This study analyzes the materials and external characteristics of the Angbu-ilgu, a kind of scaphe sundial, which was newly designated as a Korean Treasure in 2022. The Angbu-ilgu Treasure is owned by three institutions - the National Palace Museum Of Korea, Gyeongju National Museum, and Sungshin Women's University Museum - and is similar as a twin in its material, size, outward appearance, as well as production techniques that include casting, silver inlays, and metal joints. The Three-Treasure Angbu-ilgu is made of brass in the ratio of 90.6: 6.0: 1.8 with Cu: Zn: Pb. This composition clearly differs from Treasure No. 845, an Angbuilgu which has a composition ratio of 82.2: 3.7: 11.8 with Cu: Zn: Pb. In this new Angbu-ilgu Treasure, the hemisphere's stand has four vertical pillars sculpted in a dragon pattern and bilateral wings carved in a cloud pattern on the pillars, which are joined to the hemisphere's horizontal ring with rivets and silver solders, respectively. The dragon-in-clouds pillar (雲龍柱) shows the most outstanding formative beauty of the various Angbu-ilgu pillars produced in the late Joseon Dynasty. It can be seen that the altitude of the north pole engraved on the Angbu-ilgu was made after 1713. Production is, however, actually estimated to have occurred close to the 19th century, the era of the Jinju Kang family, who were professional Angbuilgu makers. Hopefully, this study will lead to a historical science and technology review with modern scientific instruments analyzing the materials and external characteristics of the three Angbu-ilgus designated as a Korean Treasure in 2022.

  • In this paper, I introduced the theoretical formulas for calcuating the input impedance of a folded dipole antenna which is held in parallel with the conductive supporter. Through the comparision of the above impedance formulas with the imput impedance formulas of a half wave dipole antenna which is parallel to the conductive supporter, it was found that the former can be made in identically same form as the latter, if some conditions are satisfied. The equivalent conditions mentioned above are derived also and the manufacturing of a vertically polarized omni-drectional antenna is apossible by the use of above equivalent conditions, because a half wave dipole antenna in parallel with a conductive supporter is already illustrated to become an omni-directional vertical polarization antenna. Some experimental data are shown together.
