Background: This study investigated the relationship between verbal aggression against school teachers and upper extremity (neck, shoulder, upper limb, and/or upper back) musculoskeletal pain. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 525 elementary school teachers from Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Northeast Brazil. Results: The prevalence of upper extremity musculoskeletal pain among teachers who reported verbal aggression in the past six months (67.7%) was higher than that among those who did not report verbal aggression (51.7%): (prevalence ratio = 1.21; 95% confidence interval = 1.04-1.40). The prevalence of upper extremity musculoskeletal pain was associated with verbal aggression, sex, and common mental disorders, controlled by skin color, age, monthly income, teachers' education, years working as a teacher, workload, and obesity. Furthermore, the measure of the association between verbal aggression and upper extremity musculoskeletal pain was modified by sex and common mental disorders, considered altogether. Teachers who suffered verbal aggression, of the feminine sex, and also having common mental disorders reported high prevalence (85.4%) of upper extremity musculoskeletal pain. Conclusion: The association between verbal violence in the school and complaints of upper extremity musculoskeletal pain was strong and modified by teachers' sex and common mental disorders.
The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of Parent Effectiveness Training (P. E. T.) on (1) parental awareness and verbal control patterns of mothers and (2) the relationship between parental awareness and verbal control patterns of mothers. The subjects were 43 mothers whose children were in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades in one of two elementary schools in the City of Seoul. Mothers who participated in a P. E. T. class were assigned either to an experimental or a control group. Mothers in the experimental group received P. E. T. during the study; those in the control group received it after the study. Instruments were the Parental Awareness Interview (Newberger, 1980) and the revised Verbal Control Patters (Gumperz, 1973) for mothers. The data were analyzed by t-tests and Pearson's correlations. The results showed that (1) P. E. T. influenced parental awareness of mothers, and this change was maintained one month after completion of the P. E. T. class. (2) Mothers' verbal control patterns were changed by P. E. T. Specifically, mother' imperative and positional verbal control patterns decreased while personal verbal control patterns increased after P. E. T. (3) P. E. T. was negativeiy related to mother's imperative and positional verbal control patterns but positively related to personal verbal control patterns.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effects of verbal violence experience on stress and positive psychological capital as well as the mediating effects of positive psychological capital. Methods: A survey was conducted with dental hygienists working at university hospitals, general hospitals, and dental hospitals and clinics in Busan, Gyeongnam, and Ulsan areas.Of the 230 questionnaires distributed, 206 were used in the analysis after excluding 24 completed questionnaires that had errors or missing answers. Results: As a result of identifying the relationships between verbal violence damage, positive psychological capital, and stress, verbal violence damage was negatively correlated with positive psychological capital (r=-0.28, p<0.001) and positively correlated with stress (r=0.40, p<0.001). Positive psychological capital had a negative correlation with stress (r=-0.25, p<0.001). As a result of verifying the mediating effects of positive psychological capital on the relationship between verbal violence damage and stress among dental hygienists, it was found that verbal violence had a significant effect on stress and positive psychological capital in the first and second stages. In the third stage, the effect of positive psychological capital on stress was significant, showing that there was a mediating effect. Conclusions: Therefore, sound work environments should aim to reduce verbal violence while increasing support systems to reduce negative emotional and psychological states.
This study investigated the effect of non-verbal communication of beauty service employees on customer trust and revisit intention, and verified the mediating effect of trust in the relationship between non-verbal communication and revisit intention. The results of this study are as follows: First, the relationship between non-verbal communication and customer trust of beauty service employees found that non-verbal communication had a significant effect on trust. Second, the relationship between the non-verbal communication of beauty service employees and customer revisit intention found that all non-verbal methods of communication, except body language, had a significant effect on revisit intention. Third, it was found that trust had a significant effect on revisit intention. Fourth, as a result of analyzing the mediating effect of customer trust on the relationship between non-verbal communication of beauty service employees and customer's revisit intention, spatial language, and appearance language showed that customer trust had a full mediating effect on the relationship between revisit intention.
The development of mobile devices and network technology is changing the ways in which people communicate with one another. Mobile text message has emerged as one of the most frequently used form of communication, which also gave rise to various non-verbal texts such as emoticons. Nonetheless, the use of text messages has largely been denied in education because text messages often involve colloquial and non-verbal texts considered inappropriate or grammatically incorrect by the teacher. In efforts to provide a theoretical framework to better understand mobile e-text communication, this research compared the practical usages of non-verbal texts in the mobile e-learning environment. The study developed three types of text messages according to the degree of using non-verbal texts and their phraseology as instructors' messages, which were then distributed to 259 students via mobile text messaging. The perceptions of students were analyzed using a semantic differential scale and a questionnaire. The results showed clear differences in students' perceptions of non-verbal text and traditional text, and that optimally designed non-verbal texts turned out to encourage the students' interaction the most out of the three types of text messages. Following the discussion of the results, an expanded theoretical framework beyond Ong's concepts of orality and literacy is also suggested to understand the evolution of mobile e-text communication in education.
Objectives:This study was to compare verbal memory ability among patients with schizophrenia, bipolar manic patients and unipolar depressive patients, and to understand their charicteristics of memory process. Methods:All subjects were hospitalized patients and had been interviewed by using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV(SCID). Schizophrenic patients(N=40), bipolar manic patients(N=17), and unipolar depressive patients(N=20) were assessed with K-AVLT for verbal memory and with K-WAIS for verbal IQ. Three groups were compared regarding total immediate recall, delayed recall, delayed recognition, learning curve, memory retention, and retrieval efficiency under controlled verbal IQ. Multiple regression analysis was performed to find which clinical factors have an influence on verbal memory ability. Results:In MANCOVA, differences of verbal memory test scores among the groups were statistically significant(F=1.800, p<.05). In post hoc analysis, Patients with schizophrenia and bipolar mania showed poorer performance in immediate recall, delayed recall, delayed recognition, retrieval efficiency than unipolar depres- sive patients. And schizophrenics performed poorly in delayed recall, delayed recognition, retrieval efficiency than nonpsychotic affective disorder group, but no difference in total immediate recall, delayed recall, delayed recognition, retrieval efficiency between the schizophrenic group and the psychotic affective group. Conclusions:These results partially confirm previous reports of verbal memory ability among major psychiatric disorders. Our results showed that psychotic symptoms were related with verbal memory, and longer duration of illness was related with poorer performance in schizophrenia and unipolar depression.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the prevalence and consequences of verbal abuse in the operating room nurses by physicians and other nurses. Method: The data were collected from 761 operating nurses. The period of data collection was from September 7 to November 25, 2004. For this study the following tools were used: the verbal abuse scale, the emotional stress scale and the long-term negative effect scale. The data were analyzed by using SPSS Win 11.5. Result: 744 nurses reported experiencing some type of verbal abuse from a physician and other nurses. The emotional stress and long-term negative effect were significantly increased by verbal abuse. The nurses of less than one year increased emotional stress from verbal abuse. The physician was the most frequent source of emotional stress by verbal abuse, followed by other nurses. The long-term negative effect was significantly increased in the factors of emotional stress and the physician was the most frequent source than other nurses. Conclusion: Verbal abuse of nurses by physicians and other nurses continues to exist and is associated with negative consequences. Nurse administrators have to assess the present state for workplace verbal abuse and must endeavor in order to reduce verbal abuse.
The present study was designed to investigate the effect of altruistic TV viewing and verbal training on the altruistic behavior of preschoolers. The subjects of this study were a total of 56 boys and 57 girls from a kindergarten in Kwachon, Kyung-gi do. The subjects were assigned to one of three conditions: in the first condition subjects were shown video tapes designed to portray prosocial themes (TV modeling group) ; in the second condition subjects saw the video tapes in addition to verbal training (TV modeling plus verbal training group); in the third condition subjects received neither TV modeling nor verbal training (control group). Statistical analysis was by ANOVA and $Scherr\acute{e}$ test. Significant differences were found in altruistic behavior between the TV modeling and the TV modeling with verbal training groups.

In the cyber space represented by Sns, the problem of cyber verbal violence, which sends slander messages such as abusive messages through chats, bulletin boards, malicious comments, and messages, is getting worse. Leveraging the power of cyberspace's anonymity, people can't hesitate to say what they can't say in the real world. In extreme cases, cyber verbal violence can lead to the death of a person. This paper focuses on the creation of media content that helps to inform and prevent the seriousness of cyber verbal violence prevalent on the Internet through interactive art. The nature of Interact art goes beyond the work and the audience to the people in the relationship between the work and the participants, allowing participants to directly and indirectly feel the seriousness of cyber verbal viol.
This study was to investigate the following research questions. (1) Is there any gender difference in the mother's verbal control and the child's peer relation\ulcorner (2) Is there any relationship between the mother's verbal control and the child's peer relation\ulcorner (3) Is the child's peer-relation influenced by the mother's verbal control\ulcorner The subjects of this study were 157 boys and 144 girls attending elementary schools in Susan. Lee, Kyung-Hee's questionnaires(1993) on mother's verbal control modes and Lee, Ju-Lie's questionnaires(1994) on child's peer relation were used. The results were as follows: 1) The mother's imperative mode for boys differed significantly from that for girls. Boys perceived mother's verbal control mode as more imperative. 2) There were significantly correlations between mother's position- oriented mode and boy's peer relation, between mother's person-oriented mode and boy's peer relation, and between mother's position-oriented mode and girl's peer relation. 3) The mother's position-oriented mode and the mother's person-oriented mode were the predictor variables influencing on child's peer relation.
