  • This study aims to find methodical similarities between pop art and Robert Venturi's works. Pop art and Robert Venturi's works gave attention to periodical changes and wanted to communicate with the public. This study approaches a topic from psychological viewpoints, especially visual dissonance. The results are as follows: 1. Manufactured Products ; Commercial Ornaments ${\rightarrow}$ Character Changes in Experienced Stimulation 2. Daily Elements ; Traditional Elements(Classic) ${\rightarrow}$ Contextual Effect of Canonic Representation In these cases, visual dissonance attracted a lot of public attention, and people would develop new meanings of objet. Pop art and Robert Venturi's works indicated value change in post-industrial society, therefore, this study can help to understand the correlation.

  • The Modern architecture, generally represented as Functionalism, had brought the important problems of the absence of cultural meaning and of the public alienation. Robert Venturi is one of the major architects who suggested the new theory of Architecture. Postmodernism, for solving these problems . Therefore the purpose of this study is to analyze his design ideas and works especially for four residential projects : Vanna Venturi House, Guild House, Brant Johnson House and Brant House, His design ideas are Complexity and Contradition, Symbolism. Ornamentalism and Pluralithy of meaning . The various historical and traditional elements are refereed as symbolic and ornamental elements. The symbolic and cultural meaning of architecture through their images, memories, and associations concerning historical motifs help communicate with the public . Robert Venturi tries to pursuit Populism in architecture through historical allusion and pop art.

수치해석기법을 이용한 벤튜리 유량계의 파울링 영향 개선 연구 (NUMERICAL STUDY ON THE IMPROVEMENT OF VENTURI FLOWMETER WITH FOULING EFFECT)

  • In the paper, a study on the analysis of fouling effect of the venturi flowmeter is described. In the research flow field solutions about the venturi flowmeter with fouling are obtained and then the effects on fouling states by inserting a ring into the throat of venturi flowmeter are studied. As the result shows, it is found that the inserted ring reduces the fouling effect due to the flow separation occurring at the ring. Consequently, a venturi flowmeter with ring shows smaller pressure loss differences than the original configuration with no ring on fouling state. This research suggests an efficient and economic method of inserting a ring to reduce the pressure loss effects due to fouling.

캐비테이션 벤츄리의 유동 특성에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Flow Characteristics of Cavitation Venturi)

  • 캐비테이션 벤츄리는 후단 압력에 상관없이 액체의 유량을 일정하게 유지시켜주는 장치로, 일정한 추진제 유량의 공급을 필요로 하는 액체로켓엔진 시스템에 성공적으로 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 축소되는 유입각과 팽창하는 출구각 만이 다른 네 개의 캐비테이션 벤츄리를 설계, 제작하였다. 압력을변경시켜가며 벤츄리를 통과하는 유량과 전/후단의 압력을 측정하였다. 실험결과로부터 각 벤츄리에 대한 유량계수와 임계 압력비를 계산하였다. 캐비테이션 벤츄리의 입구각과 출구각은 유량계수에 영향을 주었으며, 출구각은 임계 압력비에도 영향을 주는 것을 확인하였다.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop venturi type after-burner in order to obtain pollutant reduction effect and find the best stable combustion condition. For this purpose, through a flow analysis, the shape of venturi type was made and flame holder locations were also decided by measuring chemical species at before and after the after-burner. Also, various chemical species concentration were measured at changing the induced air rates and the oxygen for oxygen enrichment for the solution the problems of much oxygen flow rate and the flame stability range. As results of this study, a flow distribution and the purification effect was excellent at venturi contraction 0.5 and flame holder location 12mm below the center of Venturi throat. On the purification characteristics, we found that pollutants reduction was effective when area ratio and oxygen are increased. But there are suitable quantities due to the flame shape change and combustion efficiency.

Experiment and modeling of liquid-phase flow in a venturi tube using stereoscopic PIV

  • Venturi tube is based on turbulent flow, whereby the microbubbles can be generated by the turbulent fragmentation. This phenomenon is common in several venturi bubblers used by the nuclear, aerospace and chemical industries. The first objective of this paper is to study the liquid-phase velocity field experimentally and develop correlations for the turbulent quantities. The second objective is to research velocity field characteristics theoretically. Stereoscopic PIV measurements for the velocity field have been analyzed and utilized to develop the turbulent kinetic energy in the venturi tube. The tracking properties of the tracer particles have been verified enough for us to analyze the turbulence field. The turbulence kinetic energy has a bimodal distribution trend. Also, the results of turbulence intensity along the horizontal direction is gradually uniform along the downstream. Both the mean velocity and the fluctuation velocity are proportional to the Reynolds number. Besides, the distribution trend of the mean velocity and the velocity fluctuation can be determined by the geometric parameters of the venturi tube. An analytical function model for the flow field has been developed to obtain the approximate analytical solutions. Good agreement is observed between the model predictions and experimental data.

로버트 벤투리와 알도 로시 건축에서 도시 경관의 의미와 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Meaning and interpretation of Urban Landscape in Architecture of Robert Venturi and Aldo Rossi)

  • After the modern age, the rapid urbanizationhad a big impact on the then architecture. R. Venturi and A. Rossi are two of the leading architects, developing architecture in cities in the US and Europe respectively. This study shed light on a tangible and intangible meaning and interpretation of urban landscapes through their architectural thoughts and architectures. The followings are the physical and intangible meaning and interpretation in architectural thoughts and works of those two architects. Venturi understood that iconological landscapes at the roadside in large citiesare the nature of physical landscapes. To Venturi, the façades of buildings at the roadside are a part of signage such as traffic lights and road signs, and those façades have the meaning of symbolic systems beyond simple physical landscapes. To A. Rossi, types of buildings as physical townscapes are a key role supporting raw data of classification in architecture. And also, those types have significance of the basic data shedding light on the principles and history of cities. For intangible factors in R. Venturi's architecture, daily routine, function and use, time, a use for a building and others form complex architecture. And also, those factors describe shared values of the same period as the façades of buildings and complex symbols and formative lexicons in metaphorical terms. For A. Rossi's intangible factors, 'collective memory' is buried in inhabitants of the city, and with that, the city is a place for memory to its inhabitants. What is more, cities' monuments have intangible landscapes like 'sustainability', 'permanence' and so on. With lots of events happening throughoutcities, those monuments are the whole images of cities giving the value to the urban buildings that reside in cities. Finally, R. Venturi's all-encompassing complex architecture concept was extended on a tangible and intangible point of townscapes. It was found that A. Rossi's tangible thought was formed from the whole landscape of historic cities in then Italy as the background of time and place. Also, With types of urban buildings and 'collective memory', A. Rossi drew architectural norms and formats of unchangeable types.

여과집진기의 탈진 거동 개선에 관한 연구 (A study on the improvement of cleaning performance in bag-filter)

  • 전산유체역학(CFD)을 이용하여 산업체에 널리 적용되고 있는 충격기류형 탈진시스템의 탈진 특성을 규명하고, 그 성능을 향상시키기 위해 탈진부 유니트(unit) 형상을 개조한 경우의 탈진 성능을 비교하였다. 탈진부 각 형상에 대해 검토한 결과, 블로우 튜브에 노즐을 설치한 경우(Case 3)와 벤츄리에 이중 유입관을 설치한 경우(Case4, 5)가 현재 현장에서 널리 적용되고 있는 구조(Case 1)에 비해 우수한 것으로 예측되었다. 또한 최적 형상의 벤츄리를 설계하고, 이 벤츄리를 pilot plant에서 실험하여 현장 적용성을 분석하였다. 블로우 튜브와 본 연구에서 제안한 벤츄리를 조합한 시스템의 경우, 기존 시스템(블로 튜브만 사용한 경우와 블로 튜브와 벤츄리를 조합한 경우)에 비해 탈진 기류를 집중시키는데 매우 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 또한 본 연구에서 제안한 벤츄리를 장착하여 테스트한 결과, 산업 현장에서 사용 중인 상용 벤츄리를 사용한 경우 보다 탈진횟수 및 탈진시간이 많이 향상되는 결과를 보였다.

  • 예막 공기충돌형 방식의 희박 예혼합 예증발(LPP) 보조 분사기에 벤추리를 장착하여 분무 실험을 할 경우 액적의 낙수현상이 나타나며, 이는 액적의 불균일한 분포로 나타난다. 이를 해결하기 위해 벤추리의 출구 각도를 변화시켜 노즐목 부분에서 덤프면을 형성시켰다. 덤프면의 형성은 벤추리 출구에 재순환영역을 형성시키면서 미립화 성능을 개선하며 액적 낙수를 최소화하였다. 분사기의 불균일한 분무를 해결하기 위해 벤추리 내부의 유동 특성 및 분무의 SMD를 비교분석하였으며, 최종적으로 분무의 손실을 최소로 하며 분무를 향상시킬 수 있는 최적의 벤추리의 형상을 선정하였다.

Study of an improved and novel venturi scrubber configuration for removal of radioactive gases from NPP containment air during severe accident

  • Owing to the rising concerns about the safety of nuclear power plants (NPP), it is essential to study the venturi scrubber in detail, which is a key component of the filtered containment venting system (FCVS). FCVS alleviates the pressurein containment byfiltering and venting out the contaminated air. Themain objective of this research was to perform a CFD investigation of different configurations of a circular, non-submerged, self-priming venturi scrubber to estimate and improve the performance in the removal of elemental iodine from the air. For benchmarking, a mass transfer model which is based on two-film theory was selected and validated by experimental data where an alkaline solution was considered as the scrubbing solution. This mass transfer model was modified and implemented on a unique formation of two self-priming venturi scrubbers in series. Euler-Euler method was used for two-phase modeling and the realizable K-ε model was used for capturing the turbulence. The obtained results showed a remarkable improvement in the removal of radioactive iodine from the air using a series combination of venturi scrubbers. The removal efficiency was improved at every single data point.
