  • Electret filter media are used in general ventilation filters, disposable respirators, vehicle cabin filters, vacuum cleaners and room air cleaners. There are basic mechanisms of interception, inertial impaction, diffusion, gravitational settling, electrostatic attraction by which an aerosol particle can be deposited onto a fiber in a filter. The ability of fine particle removal strongly depends on the electrostatic forces between particles and polarized fibers. Thus, the stability of the fiber polarization is a major factor in the reliability of electret filters. In this study, the electret filter is made by electrospinning process using Polystyrene which is dissolved by 5 : 5 of Tetrahydrofuran (THF) and Dimethylformamide (DMF). Also the electrical properties and the filtration performances of electrospun filter media are Quantitatively investigated. Electrical properties of electrospun filters have been studied on surface charge potential and surface charge density. Also the filtration performance of the electret filters are evaluated on collection efficiency. The surface charge potential and the surface charge density of electrospun PS filters are increased with increasing applied voltage and saturated at 30 kV of applied voltage. Also collection efficiency of electro spun filters is increased with increasing surface charge potential and surface charge density. But the surface charge potential is decreased by natural decay and it causes deterioration of particle collection efficiency.

  • The present study has been performed to evaluate the reliability of the fire field model (FDS version 5.2) with yield rate concept of combustion products. The CO and smoke density predicted by FDS model was directly compared with measurement in a reduced scale ISO-9705 room. The GER (global equivalence ratio) concept was used to characterize the CO and smoke density with ventilation condition in the fire compartment. The FDS model tends to under-predict CO concentration and smoke density than those of measurement for the under-ventilated conditions. Also, the discrepancy between predicted and measured result increases as GER increases. In order to improve the reliability of the fire model for performance evaluation of fire safety, the fire model is necessary to be validated in various fire cases as well as develop detailed physical model.

  • The fluid system such as, the quantity control of raw water, chemicals control in the purification, the waste water system as well as in the feed water or circulation system of the power plant and the ventilation system is controlled with the valve and moter pump. The system's performance and the energy saving of the fluid systems depend on control of method and delicacy. Until, PI controller use in these system but it cannot control delicately because of the coupling in the system loop. In this paper we configure a single flow system to the multi variable system and suggest the application of 2-DOF PID controller and the tuning methods by the neural network to the electrical power of the flow control system. the 2-DOF controller follows to a setpoint has a robustness against the disturbance in the results of simulation. • The automatic control system in the greenhouse have to be developed to the direction of considering various factors the variables such as condition of the cultivation and greenhouse, the properties and types of products. Therefore, it is more important to set up variables appropriately than the problems of automatic control system itself, and the automatic control system which satisfy these problems should be simplified in the aspect of operation. In addition, even the individual automations are not perfect yet, so more studies are required for the development of comprehensive automatic system in korea. This study was carried out to automatize environment control systems for greenhouse, especially from most intensive labor requiring parts such as watering, irrigating liquefied fertilizer, spraying chemicals, mixing and ventilation system, etc. The results are summarized as follows. 1. Control type tensiometer was expected to be desirable in the automation of watering system, therefore, a new tensiometer was designed and developed through this study. 2. The chemical spraying system developed through this study was found to be excellent in the aspect of operation. 3. When pulse type water discharge meter was used in the mixing of liquefied fertilizer and chemical solution, the error of mixing were range $\pm$0.1~0.15%. 4. The water level switch of electrod type used for controlling water level was found to be affective in both control performance and operation cost. 5. The water and level control system can be omitted if each tank size are standardized in accordance with greenhouse size, therefore, the installation cost might be significantly reduced. 6. The developed general controller was excellent in hardware parts, but still remained to be improved in software parts.

  • Recently, the construction industry commonly uses FRP as a reinforcement material because of its material advantages. FRP attached reinforcement has various advantages such as high strength, stiffness, excellent durability and construction practicability comparing to its weight. However, external attachment of FRP is water-tighted with low water permeable material, not draining water, probably causing damages on a permanent structure. The study manufactured it through pultrusion and examined GP(glass fiber panel) of which material-mechanical properties are almost same as the existing FRP but durability and attachment performance are better by stationary experiments, testing load-deflection curve, destruction types and load-deflection relation under repetitive loading test. As a result of 2,000,000 fatigue tests, it did not result in the destruction and showed excellent permanent attachment and durability as it displays significantly low compressive strain of concrete.

  • Exposure to indoor air pollution is an emerging world-wide problem, with growing evidence that it is a major cause of morbidity worldwide. Whilst most indoor air pollutants are of outdoor origin, these combine with a range of indoor sourced pollutants that may lead to high pollutant levels indoors. The pollutants of greatest concern are volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and particulate matter (PM), both of which are associated with a range of serious health problems. Whilst current buildings usually use ventilation with outdoor air to remove these pollutants, botanical systems are gaining recognition as an effective alternative. Whilst many years research has shown that traditional potted plants and their substrates are capable of removing VOCs effectively, they are inefficient at removing PM, and are limited in their pollutant removal rates by the need for pollutants to diffuse to the active pollutant removal components of these systems. Active botanical biofiltration, using green wall systems combined with mechanical fans to increase pollutant exposure to the plants and substrate, show greatly increased rates of pollutant removal for both VOCs, PM and also carbon dioxide ($CO_2$). A developing body of research indicates that these systems can outperform existing technologies for indoor air pollutant removal, although further research is required before their use will become widespread. Whilst it is known that plant species selection and substrate characteristics can affect the performance of active botanical systems, optimal characteristics are yet to be identified. Once this research has been completed, it is proposed that active botanical biofiltration will provide a cheap and low energy use alternative to mechanical ventilations systems for the maintenance of indoor environmental quality.

  • As the global warming due to greenhouse effect has become serious problem, it is necessary to introduce the technology, for instance, such as diversity or saving of energy to reduce the use of fossil fuel. The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics on materials of absorption plate, unpowered and minimum use of power in cooling and heating combined device. As the results, it was observed that, in case of summer, since temperature of absorption device of solar heat(ADSH) was lower than that of no ADSH, cooling effect was insignificant in case of being not installed cold-reservoir. However, in case of winter, heating effect was certified even though the power was not used. At secondhand, the performance of ADSH with Cu was higher 2 times than that of ADSH with Al.

  • This study examined the flow and noise inside a sirocco fan for ventilation as a commercial program. To confirm only the location and power of the noise source, flow analysis was performed with steady state flow analysis. Through flow analysis, the flow was observed in the sirocco fan and the velocity vector. The pressure distribution inside was observed with contours. From the results of steady analysis, the position and size of the noise source could be seen using the 'Curle surface acoustic power' and 'Proudman acoustic power'. The Curle surface acoustic power can be used to observe the noise from the surface. The Proudman acoustic power can be used to detect noise generated in the flow region because the position and size of the noise source generated inside the sirocco fan can be seen only in the steady state. Therefore it is necessary to further analyze the unsteady state to check the frequency of the noise generated. This study provides basic data for improving the performance of the Sirocco fan and reducing the noise.

  • Domestic electronic detonators are used widely in many quarry and construction sites since its launch at 2013. In the case of SOC projects conducted in the city, most of them are designed in high-depth to reduce complaints. The high-depth excavation needs a long construction period and huge cost for building shaft and ventilation hole. Mechanical excavation method is applied when safety things are located nearby the site. Solidity of rock and machine's performance affect on the method's efficiency. So as the efficiency is getting lower, the construction period is extended, and the cost is increases as well. This case study is about changing the machine excavation method to the blasting method which is electronic detonator applied at the shaft construction site in the city. This is an example of using electronic detonators on the construction site in reducing blast-noise and vibration while meeting environmental regulatory standards.

  • Footpad dermatitis (plantar surface footpad lesions) is an increasing problem in the global poultry industry, affecting foot quality, overall welfare, and production performance. The growing consumer demand for chicken feet in Asian markets has given poultry companies interest in reducing footpad dermatitis. The lesions are multiply associated with various factors affecting the moisture content of litter such as nutrition, drinker type and management, environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, relative humidity, ammonia levels, ventilation rate), and flock health. This review addresses footpad dermatitis characteristics, causes, and the assessment system to provide a guide for future research.
