The recent information society is affected by new technologies including EC(Electronic Commerce), CALS(Commerce At Light Speed), EDI(Electronic Data Interchange), telecommuting and teleconferencing. The research goal of this paper is to identify major failure factors to reduce the dysfunction of EC and to suggest possible strategies that overcome those obstacles. The research methodologies of major failure factors are very similar to those of critical success factors which were widely used in MIS research areas. Ideally EC provides the possibility of a win/win situation for vendors and consumers. A survey study was performed using questionnaires. The factor analysis was performed to identify failure factors. Several hypotheses were set up to identify the major failure factors to reduce the dysfunction of EC. The regession analysis was performed to test those hypotheses and to understand the relationships between the major failure factors identified and the performance variables such as satisfaction, usage, and usefulness. Finally, the paper suggests alternatives to activate EC in terms of regulations, social rules, a technological model, etc.

Many enterprises continue to have an interest in the usage of new information technologies to gain a competitive advantage. In particular, their interest in the data warehouse and the data mining reveals the aspect of such a trend. Although lots of vendors announce a variety of tools for data warehousing, many a enterprise have a difficulty in building a robust data warehouse due to the lack of the ability of selecting an appropriate data warehouse technology options. Therefore, this study presents some evaluation factors, evaluation methods, and evaluation results about ETT tools, mainly in terms of a comparative test for the current available data warehousing ETT tools, Also, this paper suggests some guides about choosing the right ETT tools.

Distribution management system or microgrid energy management system plays an important role in monitoring, operation and control of electrical distribution systems by utilizing IT infrastructure. Nowadays, the rapid increase of the distributed resources makes the conventional management system have some additional functionality for the reliable operation due to intermittent renewables and the efficient operation on the economical purpose. In this paper, the brief standard software functional requirements of microgrid energy management system are provided through survey of the recent commercial products of the major vendors, and furthermore the architectures of microgrid energy management system are provided in comparison with major suppliers' microgrid energy management system. The summary of investigation will be able to make the developers and researchers focus on the specific functionality in the real world.

This paper presents a mathematical model for a class of vertical integration decisions. The problem structure of interest consists of raw material vendors, components suppliers, components processing plants, final product (assembly) plants and external components buyers. Economic feasibility of operating components plants instead of keeping outside suppliers is our major concern. The model also determines assignment of product lines and production volumes to each open plant considering the cost impacts of economies of scale and plant complexity. The problem formulation leads to a concave, mixed integer mathematical program. Given the state of the art of nonlinear programming techniques, it is often not possible to find global optima for reasonably sized such problems. We developed an optimization solution algorithm within the framework of Benders decomposition for the case of a piecewise linear concave cost function. It is shown that our algorithm generates optimal solutions efficiently.

Railway wheel is the important element of rolling-stock in the viewpoint of running safety. Thus, the material properties of strength, fatigue crack, durability are needed, and the standards for test and criteria of whee] are established to guarantee quality of wheel. In the meantime, the suppliers for wheel in domestic are varied from domestic monopolization to diverse company of China, Russia, Czech Republic, etc. The uniform quality of wheel is important from a maintenance point of view. We collected wheel samples of diverse vendors to analyze the uniformity of wheel on the basis of korea national standard. We tested material properties and analyzed the test data statistically.

The purpose of this paper is to provide a decision support method to a rational buyer, who wants to pay the least price for the product with the highest quality and service. We suggest a minimum efficiency game model and DEA game model to valuate many vendors whose qualifies of outputs are measured by percentage. Our results gave a decision maker (buyer) the upper bound and lower bound of the true efficiency score of a decision making unit (vendor) with respect to the benchmark (target) set by the buyer. As a result, a buyer can choose the best vendor in terms of his/her preference.

Many SMEs have adopted ASP models which have brought various benefits to SMEs such as decreasing the total cost, using new IT technology, enhancing the maintenance, and implementing the information systems rapidly. Ministry of Information and Communication had implemented the ASP diffusion project for the ASP venders and SMEs between 2001 and 2003. As results of this project, various industries adopted the ASP applications of which the performance was enhanced, and then the competitiveness of the ASP vendors in Korea was increased. The purpose of this study is to make a strategy of the penetration into China market for ASP services which have competitive advantages. This study uses various research methods such as questionnaire survey, visiting SMEs in china and making interviews. This study shows the current status of Chines ASP market, the several cases of using ASP services, and questionnaire analyses(service recognition, service requirement and factors and infrastructure, business environment and supporting organizations etc) of ASP demand. And finally this study proposes several strategic considerations in entering China market and suggests several support policies for supporting Korean ASPs.

Software defined technology (SDx), which defines the IT infrastructure based on software and controls that are not dependent on a specific hardware, and provides a rapid and flexible IT infrastructure, is increasing. SDx features centralized control, a common commercial product infrastructure, hardware-software dualization, and programmability. With the advent of the fourth industrial revolution, in which various application services are emerging based on IT infrastructure, interest in SDx is gradually increasing as the need for infrastructure flexibility and an agile business environment is increasing. This paper reviews the market trends of software defined anything using SDx and the trends of major vendors.

An inventory control system was developed for a distribution system consisting of a single multiproduct warehouse serving a set of customers and purchasing products from multiple vendors. Purchase orders requesting multiple products are delivered to the warehouse in a process. The receipt of customer orders by the warehouse proceeded in order intervals and in order quantities that are subject to random fluctuations. The objective of warehouse operation is to minimize the total cost while maintaining inventory levels within the warehouse capacity by adjusting the purchase order intervals and quantities. An adaptive model predictive control algorithm was developed using a periodic square wave model to represent the material flows. The adaptive concept incorporated a stabilized minimum variance control-type input calculation coupled with input/output stream parameter predictions. The effectiveness of the scheme was demonstrated using simulations.

The existing building control and automation systems which have been applied to buildings are provided by many different vendors and each vendor has its own proprietary protocol. There are many problems in system integration since those building control and automation systems belong to each vendor. Also, the problems of cost and space increase, due to the usage of personal computers as the control servers of DDC(Direct Digital Control) in each facility. Those problems mentioned above can be effectively resolved by using XML Web Services and Embedded Web Server. Embedded Web Server and XML Web Services are technologies emerging out of the IT industries and there are many researches to apply them into many fields. In this paper, Embedded Web Server and XML Web Services are proposed to be used in building control and automation system to resolve problems in building system integration.
