  • Many IT specialists say that ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is the best way to manage resources in enterprise effectively. Actually lots of companies are using ERP solutions in the hope of getting competitiveness and employing global standard business practice. Wishing to take advantage of ERP S/W, companies have a preference for purchasing it and outsourcing ERP project. This paper is focusing on ERP Package assessment model in business firms. This paper finds out what differences there are in purchasing ERP S/W for organization characteristics and building characteristics, and suggests some guidelines of S/W development to venders. The results would be strong implications for ERP vendors. Especially this paper identify what the reasons and the checkpoints are when firms introduce ERP S/W. To do this, this paper used empirical data obtained from companies in South Korea and analyzed it using statistical software.

  • The primary purpose of this study is to investigate ASP (Application Service Provider) vendor attributes that affect ASP client satisfaction. From the relevant literature, ASP vendor attributes that might affect the ASP client satisfaction were derived from which the survey questions were formulated. The survey was conducted among the companies that have adopted ASP. Through the factor analysis of the survey results, the following vendor attributes - vendor's IT infra structure, service reliability, service flexibility, vendor stability, IS maturity, information sharing - were derived ; and the relationships between those attributes and ASP client satisfaction were explored. The result of this study revealed that IT infra, service flexibility, vendor stability are related to ASP client satisfaction. The customer satisfaction factors in the traditional outsourcing -- reliability, IS maturity, information sharing were proved to be not applied in ASP environment. This study provides ASP vendors with guidelines on how to improve their ASP strategies to satisfy clients. The results of this study can also be used by client companies as a decision basis for ASP vendor selection.

  • Author outlines briefly developments of policies relating to telecommunication infrastructure and databases since latter half of 1970′s. There exist three phases. The first phase was from later 1970′s to 1985, which was an initial stage of electronic information service in Japan. In the second phase, 1985~1990, basic policy change made possible the privatization of telecommunication services and proliferation of database products and vendors, The third phase began in early 1990′s with downsizing in computer usage, wide-spreading information networks and rapid dissemination of personal computers. Then author describes offers on policy formation for "novel information infrastructure" and current situation concerning the "Internet" in Japan. Finally, tasks and problems for implementing new generation program for information infrastructure and database usage are pointed out, These are knowledge resource, cost, copyrights and cultural problems including language.

  • As the increasing expectations of a practical AI (Artificial Intelligence) service makes AI algorithms more complicated, an efficient processor to process AI algorithms is required. To meet this requirement, processors optimized for parallel processing, such as GPUs (Graphics Processing Units), have been widely employed. However, the GPU has a generalized structure for various applications, so it is not optimized for the AI algorithm. Therefore, research on the development of AI processors optimized for AI algorithm processing has been actively conducted. This paper briefly introduces an AI processor especially for inference acceleration, developed by the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, South Korea., and other global vendors for mobile and server platforms. However, the GPU has a generalized structure for various applications, so it is not optimized for the AI algorithm. Therefore, research on the development of AI processors optimized for AI algorithm processing has been actively conducted.

  • The enterprise resource planning(ERP) system becomes more popular as a vehicle of realizing an integrated information system, because this system not only facilitates the reengineering of processes in a firm but also provides the function of generating consolidated financial statements. However, ERP vendors have unsuccessfully provided methodologies on the customization of ERP packages although one of the important issues during the implementation of an ERP package is how to customize it. The purpose of this paper is to build a strategy on the successful customization of ERP packages. The result from the analysis of interviews with 25 consultants and experts in the ERP field recommends 14 customization strategies of an ERP package in the four areas of a firm: management, technology, organization, and environment. The analysis of the feedback from the consultants and experts generates the ranking of the 14 customization strategies.

  • This paper tests whether there are any differences in perceived effectiveness according to the range of outsourcing, and we tried to identify the reasons if any. By executing a field survey and T-test on composite success measure value of two types (integrated outsourcing type and backend outsourcing type), we testified that the perceived effectiveness of the two types in outsourcing was not different. Discussion fo the stududy result followed. First, 'integrated outsourcing type' does not generate very excellent performance. Second, so far the characteristics of 'integrated outsourcing type' such as strategic management of IS, activating end-user computing(EUC), and making the strategic partnership with vendors and so on have not been successfully utilized as expected.

  • Government intervention, industry cooperation, new vendors, and foreign competition are all factors that exert a powerful influence on the information technology, marketplace, and on the individual IS organization. When these influences need to change an organization, it is likely the culture or identity of the organization will be targeted for change. Because an organization is also composed of cognitive frameworks, there is an implication that the existing cognitive structures are in jeopardy. Thus, the cognitive component is important in how all members of organizations react and respond to change. This paper defines cognitive process and its related research history, introduces organizational change matters, tries to solve conflicts in organizational changes, and applies this topic to the information systems field.

  • Traditional intermediaries refer to service providers such as travel agents, real estate brokers, job agencies and insurance agents which matching services for buyers and suppliers in a traditional market. The introduction of Electronic commerce resulted in the automation of many tasks provided by intermediaries and seemed to eliminate the role of many traditional intermediaries, which is called disintermediation. However, depending on their market power, traditional intermediaries either will be disintermediated or fill new roles by providing added value and assistance, which is called reintermediation. According to the research of Alina M. Chircu et al. there are three conditions for reintermediation for traditional intermediaries. Three conditions are weak appropriability of EC innovations, ownership of co-specialized assets for both market intermediation and EC innovations and economies of scale. Besides these three reintermediation conditions, we hypothesize that leveraging BPO can be a suitable strategy for traditional intermediaries to be transformed into reintermediaries. Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is the leveraging of technology or specialist process vendors to provide and manage an organization's critical and/or non-critical enterprise processes and applications. This paper will investigate the relationship between above reintermediation conditions including BPO and reintermediation.

  • People tend to resist changing their software even alternatives are better then the current one. This study examines the resistance to change in the use of software from the switching costs perspective based on status quo bias theory. For this study, we select Web Browsers as software. Based on the classification of switching costs into three groups (psychological, procedural, and loss), this study identifies six types of switching costs (uncertainty, commitment, learning, setup, lost performance, and sunk costs). This study tests the effects of six switching costs on user resistance to change based on the survey of 204 web browser users. The results indicate that lost performance costs and emotional costs have significant effects on user resistance to change. This research contributes towards understanding of switching costs and the effects on user resistance to change. This study also offers suggestions to software vendors for retaining their users and to organizations for managing user resistance in switching and adopting software.
