  • The main object of this study was to investigate experimentally the characteristics of electrostatic cyclone-bag filter with upper tangential inlet in order to overcome the low collection efficiency for the submicron particle and high pressure drop which were main problems of general fabric bag filters. The experiment was carried out for the analysis of collection efficiency and pressure drop of electrostatic cyclone-bag filter comparing to those of fabric bag filter with various experimental parameters such as the inlet velocity(filtration velocity) and applied voltage etc. In the results the upper tangential inlet type showed higher collection efficiency for submicron particles below 2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in diameter than that of center inlet and over 99.9% for overall collection efficiency. Pressure drop reduction ratios were shown as 40-50% for the applied voltage 0kV by centrifugal force and 70-90% for 20k V by the centrifuga and electrostatic force with the tangential inlet velocity (12-21m/s)

  • In image-based CFD modeling of carotid bifurcation hemodynamics, it is often not possible (or at least not convenient) to impose measured velocity profiles at the common carotid artery inlet. Instead, fully-developed velocity profiles are usually imposed based on measured flow rates. However, some studies reported a pronounced influence of inflow boundary conditions that were based on actual velocity profiles measured by magnetic resonance imaging which showing the unusual presence of a high velocity band in the middle of the vessel during early diastole inconsistent with a Dean-type velocity profile. We demonstrated that those velocity profiles were induced by the presence of modest secondary curvature of the inlet and set about to test whether such more "realistic" velocity profiles might indeed have a more pronounced influence on the carotid bifurcation hemodynamics. We found that inlet boundary condition with axisymmetric fully-developed velocity profile(Womersley flow) is reasonable as long as sufficient CCA inlet length of realistic geometry is applied.

  • The main purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of cylindrical electrostatic precipitator with centrifugal effect in viewpoints of pressure drip and collection efficiency, experimentally. The experiment was carried out for the analysis of current-voltage, pressure drop and collection efficiency with various experimental parameters such as the applied voltage, inlet velocity, inlet size and inlet type(upper and bottom), etc. In the results, the pressure drops were estimated as 27~54, $34~63mmH_2O$ for inlet size $15mm{\tiems}30mm$ and $30mm{\tiems}60mm$, respectively. The collection effeciencies were shown over 90% with the small inlet size($15mm{\tiems}30mm$) for the applied voltage 40kV, inlet velocity(15~21m/s), and 51~89% with the large inlet size ($30mm{\tiems}60mm$). Moreover, in the applied voltage 0kV and inlet size $15mm{\tiems}30mm$, the collection efficiency induced by centrifugal force was represented as about 35% with inlet velocity 15 - 21m/s.

  • The effectiveness of one dimensional critical velocity method for evacuation environment at 10MW fire size in a railroad tunnel have been investigated in this paper by three dimensional CFD method. It was performed to evaluate the evacuation environment in terms of temperature distribution, visible distance distribution and CO concentration at some tunnel inlet velocity, 1m/s, 2m/s (near critical velocity), and 3m/s. At all inlet velocity, passenger should give away downward the flow direction because the inlet velocity can not afford to sufficient evacuation environment for passengers. In case of 3m/s inlet velocity, however, the evacuation environment for passengers is better than the other cases. To provide more safe evacuation environment on fire situation, tunnel inlet velocity should be larger than critical velocity.

  • Recently, the major trends of NIL are high throughput and large area patterning. For UV NIL, if it can be proceeded in the non-vacuum environment, which greatly simplifies tool construction and greatly shorten process times. However, one key issue in non-vacuum environment is air bubble formation problem. In this paper, numerical analysis of bubble defect of UV NIL is performed. Fluent, flow analysis focused program was utilized and VOF (Volume of Fluid) skill was applied. For various resist-substrate and resist-mold angles, effects of velocity inlet and residual layer thickness of resist on bubble defect formation were investigated. The numerical analyses show that the increases of velocity inlet and residual layer thickness can cause the bubble defect formation, however the decreases of velocity inlet and residual layer thickness take no difference in the bubble defect formation.

  • This paper describes the forced flame response in a turbulent premixed gas turbine combustor. The fuel was premixed with the air upstream of a choked inlet to avoid equivalence ratio fluctuations. To impose the inlet flow velocity, a siren type modulation device was developed using an AC motor, rotating and static plates. Measurements were made of the velocity fluctuation in the nozzle using hot wire anemometry and of the heat release fluctuation in the combustor using chemiluminescence emission. The test results showed that flame length as well as geometry was strongly dependent upon modulation frequency in addition to operating conditions such as inlet velocity. Convection delay time between the velocity perturbation and heat release fluctuations was calculated using phase information of the transfer function, which agreed well with the results of flame length measurements. Also, basic characteristics of the flame nonlinear response shown in the current test conditions were introduced.

  • A commercial CFD code is used to compute the 3-D viscous flow field within the inlet flow concentrator of the newly developed AHU(Air Handling Unit). To improve the performance of the AHU, the inlet air needs to be gradually accelerated to the fan's annular velocity without causing turbulence or flow separation. Three major geometric parameters were selected to specify the inlet shape of the AHU. Several numerical calculations are carried out to determine the influence of the geometric parameters on the performance of the AHU. The performance of the AHU could be measured by the inlet and outlet flow uniformity and the total pressure loss through the inlet flow concentrator. The optimized nondimensionalized velocity profile through the inlet flow concentrator were used for the design of the AHU with the various volume flow rates.

  • The influence of inlet air humidity on the flame velocity and combustion of the spark ignition engine were described experimentally by means of the flame velocity measuring apparatus using ion-current. The flame velocity are greatly influenced air fuel ratio and engine speed, and linealy decrease according to the increasing of inlet air humidity. The flame travell curve is very similar to the rate of mass burned and combustion progressive is estimated mostly by only the rate of mass burned curve. The decreasing of the mean flame velocity is about 0.4m/s for increasing of 0.001 specific humidity and we think the reason is mainly decreasing of thermal conductivity.

  • In this study, the thermal stratification in solar seasonal thermal storage tanks was numerically simulated. The effects of the aspect ratio (AR) and inlet velocity on the thermal stratification in the diffuser type heat storage tank were investigated. The temperature distributions inside the tank were similar with velocity fields. Jet flows from opposite diffusers encountered each other at the tank center region. Thereafter, the downward flows occurred, and this flows strongly affected the thermal stratification. When AR was smaller than 2, these downward flows influenced a further distance and enhanced mixing inside the tank. Thermal stratification was evaluated by thermocline thickness and degree of stratification, and AR of 3 had the highest degree of stratification. The inlet velocity effect was expressed with the ratio (Re/Ri) of Reynolds and Richardson numbers. The second-order approximation was found for the relationship between the thermocline thickness and log Re/Ri.

  • A present study is the flow characteristics of impinging jet by PIV measurement and numerical analysis. The flow characteristics of impinging jet flow are affected greatly by nozz1e inlet velocity An circular sharp edged nozzle type($45^{\circ}$ ) was used to achieve uniform mean velocity at the nozz1e inlet, and its diameter is 10 mm(d). Therefore, the flow characteristics on the impinging jet can be changed largely by the control of main flow In this parent study, we investigate the effects of inlet velocity, its variable is nozzle inlet Reynolds numbers (Re=1500, 3000, 4500, 6000 and 7500)
