  • Objective: The purpose of this study to investigate the correlations among the motor function, balance, and gait velocity and the strength that could explain the variation of gait velocity of chronic stroke survivors. Design: This was a cross-sectional cohort study. Methods: Thirty hemiplegic stroke survivors hospitalized in an inpatient rehabilitation center were participated. The muscle tone of ankle plantarflexor and muscle strength of ankle dorsiflexor were measured respectively with modified Ashworth scale (MAS) and hand-held dynamometer. And the motor recovery and function with Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA), balance with Berg balance scale (BBS) and timed up and go (TUG) test were measured. Gait velocity was measured with GAITRite. The correlation among motor function, muscle tone, muscle strength, balance, and gait were analyzed. In addition, the strength of the relationship between the response (gait velocity) and the explanatory variables was analyzed. Results: The gait velocity had positive correlations with FMA, muscle strength, and BBS, and negative correlation with MAS and TUG. Regression analysis showed that TUG (𝛽=-0.829) was a major explanatory variable for gait velocity. Conclusions: Our results suggest that gait velocity had correlations with muscle strength, MAS, FMA, BBS, and TUG. The tests and measurements affecting the variation of gait velocity the greatest were TUG, followed by FMA, BBS, muscle strength, and MAS. This study shows that TUG would be a possible assessment tool to determine the variation of gait velocity in stroke rehabilitation.

  • For the first time, the present study has measured the velocity distribution function in circular open channel flow in a three-dimensional shape using a stereoscopic PIV system. For a given channel slope, water depth was varied from 30% to 80% of the channel diameter. Then, the characteristics of the velocity distribution function was compared according to the change of the water depth. Unlike a rectangular channel, the present experiment exhibited quite different shapes in the velocity distribution function whether the water depth is higher than 50% or not. Especially, the position of maximum velocity in the central and side wall changes in a different manner for the water depth above 50%. By differentiating the velocity distribution function, local wall friction coefficient was evaluated as a function of wall position. If the water depth goes down, the difference between the maximum and minimum values in the local wall friction coefficient increases, and the averaged value a1so increases.

  • This paper presents a velocity disturbance estimation system for the stable fine seek control using a genetic algorithm. To estimate accurately the velocity disturbance in spite of the uncertainties of fine actuator, the system utilizes an objective function to minimize the differences of the frequency characteristics between the nominal velocity control loop and the extremal velocity control loops. The objective function is considered by applying a genetic algorithm and the velocity disturbance is estimated by the measurable velocity, the adjusted velocity controller, and the fine actuator model. The proposed velocity disturbance estimation system is applied to the fine seek control system of a DVD recording device and is evaluated through the experimental results.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the effect of static balance, lower extremity function, and gait ability between a lower extremity restrain robot gait training and a general robot gait training in subacute stroke subjects. Design: Two-group pretest-posttest design. Methods: A total of 12 subacute stroke patients were randomly divided into an Experimental group (n=6) and a control group (n=6). Both groups were performed for four weeks, three times a week, for 20 minutes. To compare the Static balance function, the center of pressure (COP) path-length and COP velocity were measured. The Fugl-Meyer assessment lower extremity (FMA-LE) were evaluated to compare the Lower Extremity function. 2D Dartfish Program and 10 Meter Walking Test (10 MWT) on Gait ability were evaluated to compare the gait function. Results: In the intra-group comparison, Experimental groups showed significant improvement in COP path-length, velocity, Lower Extremity Function, 10 MWT, Cadence, by comparing the parameters before and after the intervention (p<0.05). Comparison of the amount of change between groups revealed significant improvement for parameters in the COP path-length, velocity, Lower extremity function, 10 MWT by comparing the parameters before and after the intervention (p<0.01). Conclusions: The Experimental group showed enhanced efficacy for variables such as COP path-length, velocity, Lower extremity function, 10 MWT as compared to the control group.

  • 1. Objectives This study was carried out to investigate the equilibrium functional difference according to mean velocity of basilar artery with Sasang Constitution. 2. Methods We analyzed the data of 300 adults(194 males, 106 females), who visited oriental hospital of D university for medical examiation, which includes Sasang constitution examination, equilibrium function test, transcranial doppler ultrasonography(TCD). We evaluated the trace length and envelop area of open eyes and closed eyes, mean velocity of basilar artery and analyzed its statistical data. 3. Results and Conclusions 1) Within all subjects, trace length and envelop area of closed eyes were significantly lower, in the order of increased mean velocity of basilar artery group, normal mean velocity of basilar artery group and decreased mean velocity of basilar artery group. 2) No significantly difference was seen between the mean velocity of basilar artery and equilibrium function in Soyangin and Soeumin. 3) When closed eyes, trace length were significantly lower in order of increased mean velocity of basilar artery group, normal mean velocity of basilar artery group and decreased mean velocity of basilar artery group, in Taeeumin.

  • We got the growth distance curve by spline smoothing method with observed marketing data and the growth velocity curve by the derivation of the growth distance curve. Using this growth velocity curve, we defined the several characteristic points which describe the variation of marketing data. In this paper, to specify several patterns of marketing data, we suggested characteristic function by using these characteristic points. In addition, we applied characteristic function to the seventeen brands of electric home products data.

  • The velocity fields can be composed by nodal points using shape function. Forging load and deformed profile are obtained by minimizing total energy consumption rate which is function of unknown velocities at each nodal points. The velocity and stremiline distribution can also be investigated at the deformation profile. The effectiveness of proposed method in this paper is demonstrated by comparing with those of FEM and experiment, that is the results of upset forging problem. Obtained results are compared with FEM and experiment and fairly good agreement is found between them.

  • The velocity structure beneath the CHNB broadband station is determined by receiver function analysis using by from teleseismic P waveforms. The detailed broadband receiver functions are obtained by stacking method for source-equalized vertical, radial and tangential components of teleseismic P waveforms. A time domain inversion uses the stacked radial receiver function to determine vertical P wave velocity structure beneath the station. The crustal velocity structures beneath the stations are estimated using the receiver function inversion method in the case at the crustal model parameterized by many thin, flat-tying, homogeneous layers. The result of crust at model inversion shows the crustal velocity structure beneath the CHNB station varies smoothly with increasing depth, and there are six discontinuity around 2.5km, 6.25km, 12.5km, 22.5km and 27.5km depth, with Moho discontinuity at about 32.5km depth.

  • We present the result of radial velocity observation of a W UMa type binary star EX Leo. We observed the star on February 16, 2003, using Long-Slit spectrograph of BOAO(Bohyunsan Optical Astronomical Observatory). Since the spectral lines are broad due to its fast rotation, it is difficult to distinguish two radial velocities from cross correlation function. Instead of cross correlation function, we used broadening function to develop our own code which estimate the radial velocity of the broadened line spectra. With our own code, radial velocities of primary and secondary stars are derived simultaneously. From the radial velocity curve fit, we obtained $K_1=50.24{\pm}8.29km/s$ and $K_2=254.05{\pm}20.984km/s$ respectively.
