Active control of a flow field is essential to design efficient parts or elements relating to fluid machineries. The present study is aimed to suggest a new discretization technique of the convection term by renewing the non-conservative equation found in SOLA-VOF into a conservative one. And, as an application, flow characteristics are investigated by adjusting the backward ejecting velocity of 2-D square prism to control the aerodynamic properties. Strouhal number, drag and lift coefficient are compared in terms of various ejecting velocity. Among the results, the transient weak fluctuation of the lift and drag coefficient when the ejecting velocity equals channel inlet velocity is remarkably noticed.

The unsteady flow in three-dimensional cubic cavity with narrow channel at upper region is investigated experimentally for three kinds of Reynolds number, 1*10/sup 4/, 3*10/sup 4/ and 5*10/sup 4/ based on the cavity width and cavity inlet mean flow velocity. Instant velocity vectors are obtained simultaneously at whole field by PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry). Wall pressure distributions are estimated using Poisson equation from the velocity data. Results of PIV reveal that severe unsteady flow fluctuation within the cavity are remarkable at all Reynolds numbers and sheared mixing layer phenomena are also found at the region where inlet driving flow is collided with the clock-wise rotating main primary vortex. Instant velocity profiles reveal that deformed forced vortex formation is observed throughout the entire region and spanwise kinetic energy migration is conspicuous.
Simultaneous CH and OH planar laser induced fluorescence(PLIF) and stereoscopic particle image velocimetry(PIV) measurements have been developed to investigate the local flame structure of turbulent premixed flames. The developed simultaneous two radical concentrations and three component velocity measurements on a two-dimensional plane was applied for relatively high Renolds number turbulent premixed flames in a swirl stabilized combustor. All measurements were conducted for methane-air premixed flames in the corrugated flamelets regime. Strong three-dimensional fluctuation implies that misunderstanding of the flame/turbulent interactions would be caused by the analysis of two-component velocity distribution in a cross section. Furthermore, comparisons of CH-OH PLIF and three-component velocity field show that the burned gases not always have high-speed velocity in relatively high Renolds number turbulent premixed flame.
Hard disk drived (HDD) in computer are used extensively as data storage capacity. The trend in the computer industry to produce smaller disk drives rotating at higher speeds requires an improved understanding of fluid motion in the space between disks. The distribution of pressure disturbance on disks has relation to flow structure. To investigate the flow structure, time-resolved hot-wire measurements of the circumferential velocity component were obtained for the flow between the center pair of four disks of common radius $R_2$ coretating at angular velocity ${\Omega}$ in a fixed cylindrical enclosure. Hot-wire supporter acts as an obstruction in this case. The effects of rotating speed and size of hot-wire supporter diameter between disks on the flow driven by disks were investigated. Velocity spectra at the fixed space were measured to obtain the structure of inner and outer region in flow field.

The hybrid grid was adopted and numerical prediction analysis of propeller unsteady bearing force considering free surface was performed for mode and full-scale KCS hull-propeller-rudder system by employing RANS method and VOF model. In order to obtain the propeller velocity under self-propulsion point, firstly, the numerical simulation for self-propulsion test of full-scale ship is carried out. The results show that the scale effect of velocity at self-propulsion point and wake fraction is obvious. Then, the transient two-phase flow calculations are performed for model and full-scale KCS hull-propeller-rudder systems. According to the monitoring data, it is found that the propeller unsteady bearing force is fluctuating periodically over time and full-scale propeller's time-average value is smaller than model-scale's. The frequency spectrum curves are also provided after fast Fourier transform. By analyzing the frequency spectrum data, it is easy to summarize that each component of the propeller bearing force have the same fluctuation frequency and the peak in BFP is maximum. What's more, each component of full-scale bearing force's fluctuation value is bigger than model-scale's except the bending moment coefficient about the Y-axis.

This study applied a hydrogeological field survey and isotope investigation to identify source locations and delineate pathways of groundwater contamination by nitrogen compounds. The infiltration and recharge processes were analyzed with groundwater-level fluctuation data and oxygen-hydrogen stable isotope data. The groundwater flow pattern was investigated through groundwater flow modeling and spatial and temporal variation of oxygen isotope data. Based on the flow analysis and nitrogen isotope data, source types of nitrate contamination in groundwater are identified. Groundwater recharge largely occurs in spring and summer due to precipitation or irrigation water in rice fields. Based on oxygen isotope data and cross-correlation between precipitation and groundwater level changes, groundwater recharge was found to be mainly caused by irrigation in spring and by precipitation at other times. The groundwater flow velocity calculated by a time series of spatial correlations, 231 m/yr, is in good accordance with the linear velocity estimated from hydrogeologic data. Nitrate contamination sources are natural and fertilized soils as non-point sources, and septic and animal wastes as point sources. Seasonal loading and spatial distribution of nitrate sources are estimated by using oxygen and nitrogen isotopic data.

An experimental study of the flame response in a turbulent premixed combustor has been conducted in order to investigate mechanisms for combustion instabilities in a lean premixed gas turbine combustor. A lab-scale combustor and mixing section system were fabricated to measure the flame transfer function. Measurements are made of the velocity fluctuation in the nozzle using hot wire anemometry and of the heat release fluctuation in the combustor using chemiluminescence emission. The results show that the flame transfer functions are greatly dependent on the modulation frequency as well as operating conditions such as equivalence ratio. Flame dynamics can be generalized as a function of Strouhal number which is a ratio of flame length to modulation wave length.

Most of the recent for the flow field hydrofoil in partially cavitating condition are the ones which are linearized, and the problem of cavity end region for hydrofoil is not verified. This paper deals with a study on characteristics of end region flow field for partially cavitating hydrofoil by using a characteristics of shear turbulence flow and nonlinear cavity flow theory. The results obtained as follows : 1) Shear layer thickness is decreased gradually going to the end section of hydrofoil. When attack angle is large, it is appeared largely at the region of partial cavitation after its collapsing. 2) The fluctuation velocity of a second-degree relative direction have minimum value at the front of hydrofoil or at the end of hydrofoil. The difference for the validity of attack angle is appeared largely at the surrounding of .chi.$_{e}$ point. 3) The fluctuation velocity of transverse direction decrease from the maximum thickness of cavitation to the end of hydrofoil, but it undergoes largely the effect of pressure recovery. The difference is larger at the region of partial cavitation after its collapsing than at the of hydrofoil. 4) The distribution of Reynolds stress have maximum values at the region of partial cavitation after its collapsing and the end of foil, and the larger attack angle, the larger the distribution of value.e.

This study is concerned with the estimation of fluctuation wind velocity spectrum and turbulence characteristics in the major cities reflecting the recent meteorological with typhoon wind velocity about 2003 (Maemi) 2010 (Kompasu) 2012 (Tembin). The purpose of this paper is to present spectral analysis for longitudinal component fluctuating velocity. In the processes of analysis, the longitudinal velocity spectrums are compared widely used spectrum models with horizontal wind velocity observations data obtained at Korea Meteorological Adminstration (KMA) and properties of the atmospheric air for typhoon fluctuating wind data are estimated to parameters with turbulency intensity, shear velocity and roughness length.
