  • This study aims to provide a real-time information to the driver by effectively operating the advanced safety device attached to the freight vehicle, thereby minimizing insecure behavior of the driver such as speeding, rapid acceleration, sudden braking, And improve driving habits to prevent accidents and save energy. Advanced safety equipment is a device that warns the driver that the vehicle leaves the driving lane regardless of the intention of the driver and reduces the risk of traffic accidents by mitigating or avoiding collision by detecting a frontal collision during driving. The main contents of this report are as follows: In case of installing a warning device on a lane departing vehicle (excluding a light vehicle) and a lorry or special vehicle with a total weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes, the driver must continue to operate unless the driver releases the function. In addition, when the automatic emergency braking system is installed, the structure should be such that the braking device is operated automatically after warning the driver when the risk of collision with the running or stopped vehicle in the same direction is detected in front of the driving lane.

  • This paper describes a Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system based on the radar driven fusion with camera. The objective of FCW system is to provide an appropriate alert with satisfying the evaluation scenarios of US-NCAP and a driver acceptance. For this purpose, this paper proposed a data fusion algorithm and a collision warning algorithm. The data fusion algorithm generates information of fusion target depending on the confidence of camera sensor. The collision warning algorithm calculates indexes and determines an appropriate alert-timing by using analysis results of manual driving data. The FCW system with the proposed data fusion and collision warning algorithm was investigated via scenarios of US-NCAP and a real-road driving. It is shown that the proposed FCW system can improve the accuracy of an alarm-timing and reduce the false alarm in real roads.

  • The side and rear-side collision warning system using fuzzy control algorithms is discussed in this paper. Common rearside warning system has many problems. For example if target vehicle comes into the warning area, it must unconditionally warn. Drivers could be interrupted by it. To solve the problem, I divided measuring area into two sections. One section is blind area of vehicle and the other rear-side area. For blind area, obtained data was filtered inefficient warning signal by using relative velocity method. For rear-side area, a fuzzy logic algorithm is used to recognition of obstacles. According to our experiment relative velocity method and fuzzy logic algorithms were very efficient.

  • An intelligent safety vehicle(ISV) should have an ability to predict the possibility of an accident and help a driver avoid the accident in advance. The basic function of the ISV is to alert the driver by warning when the collision is to occur. For this purpose, the ISV has to function efficiently in sensing the environmental context. While image processing provides lane information, laser radar senses road obstacles including vehicles. By applying a simple clustering algorithm to radar signals, it is possible to obtain the vehicle information. Consequently, we can identify the existence of the vehicle of interest on my lane. The reliability of the sensing algorithm is evaluated by running on the highway with a test vehicle.

  • The launch vehicle upper stage generally executes collision and contamination avoidance maneuver after the satellite separation. Through this maneuver the satellite safely settles in its orbit and the launch vehicle moves away from the satellite with minimum contamination. In this paper collision and contamination avoidance maneuvers by foreign launch vehicles are analyzed. Criteria for satellite contamination during the avoidance maneuver is given for KSLV-I upperstage.

  • This paper presents a unified control algorithm of independent braking and steering for collision avoidance. The desired motion of the vehicle in the yaw plane is determined using the probabilistic risk assessment method based on target state estimation. For the purpose of coordinating the independent braking and steering, a non-linear vehicle model has been developed, which describes the vehicle dynamics in the yaw plane in both linear and extended non-linear ranges of handling. A control allocation algorithm determines the control inputs that minimize the difference between the desired and actual vehicle motions, while satisfying all actuator constraints. The performance of the proposed control algorithm has been investigated via computer simulations conducted using the vehicle dynamics software CARSIM and Matlab/Simulink.

  • The purpose of this study is to predict how the actual accident changes by reconstructing the accident with an Autonomous Emergency Braking system (AEB) based on the actual accident of the LTAP-OD (Left Turn Crossing Path - Opponent Direction) intersection. A virtual AEB sensor was developed, and 150 head-on collision accident reports were secured to the insurance company to reconstruct the accident. As a result of the accident type analysis, a total of 13 types of head-on collision accidents were derived, and it is the LTAP-OD intersection accident with the highest frequency. In the LTAP-OD intersection accident, the simulation was conducted by applying the virtual AEB of each vehicle, the accident rate decreased by 90% or more when the AEB of the left-turn vehicle was applied, and the accident rate decreased by 50%. In addition, the most frequent collision types in LTAP-OD accidents were the front bumper on the driver's side of a vehicle going straight and the front bumper on the passenger's side of a vehicle turning left.

  • This paper introduces a simulation method for the collision between roadblocks and vehicles using LS-DYNA. The need to evaluate the performance of anti-ram barriers to prepare for vehicle impact has increased since vehicle impact threats have been included as a design criterion for nuclear power plants. Anti-ram barriers are typically certified for their performance through collision experiments. However, because Koreas has no performance testing facilities for anti-ram barriers, their performance can only be verified through simulations. LS-DYNA is a specialized program for collision simulation. Various organizations, including NCAC, distributes numerical models that have been validated for their accuracy with collision tests. In this study, we constructed a finite element model of the most critical vehicle barrier module and simulated collision between roadblocks and vehicles. The calculated results were verified by applying the validation criteria for vehicle safety facility collision simulations of NCHRP 179.

  • Traffic accidents in tunnel can lead to large traffic accidents due to narrow and dark road characteristics. Therefore, special care of the driver is required when is driving in a tunnel. However, accidents can happen at any time. In the event of an accident, a narrow road structure may lead to a second accident. Therefore, all facilities installed inside the tunnel should be allowed to minimize damage in the event of an accident. We confirmed the safety of the collision target through the action of the sedan, Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and truck when the vehicle crashed into a stairway installed on the tunnel emergency escape route, and when a concrete barrier or guard rail was installed in front of the stairway. The behavior of the vehicle has resulted in a total of three results: rollover or rollover, change of speed and angle of the vehicle after collision. The sedan and SUV were the most secure when colliding with the guardrail, but considering the truck as a whole, concrete barriers were judged to be the most suitable for minimizing damage from the first accident and reducing the risk of the second accident.
