Composite pressure vessels with HDPE (high density polyethlyne) liner with metal boss at each end were developed by Filament Winding Process. The vessel is composed of a dome-shaped part at each end and a cylinder-shaped part at the middle of the vessel. The environmental tests carried out for possible vessel materials such as High Density Polyethlyn (HDPE), resins and reinforcing fibers up to a year showed no significant damages. The boss was designed to minimize the gas leak which was verified by FEM analysis. Most ideal fiber tension was obtained by experimental method and the fiber volume fraction, $\textrm{V}_{f}$, obtained by image analyzer were 55.4 % in cylinder and 55.6 % in dome parts, respectively. Winding pattern is programmed to control the composite thickness in the dome areas such that the failure of the vessel may occur in the cylinder. During the cure, the vessel was rotated and a constant internal pressure of 0.62 bar was applied. From this, the vessel's burst pressure is improved by 28 %. The burst and fatigue tests for under-wound and fully wound vessel showed satisfactory results.

Purpose: This study aimed to determine new criteria for detecting independent factors with high sensitivity in cases of cervical spine injury. We compared the sensitivity, the specificity, and the false negative predictive value (NPV) of plain radiographs with those of computed tomography for cervical spine injury in patients with minor head injury. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the cases of 357 patients who underwent both cervical plain radiographs and computer tomography from January 2006, to September 2008. Patients were divided into two groups: the cervical spine injury group and the no cervical spine injury group. New criteria were organized based on variables that had significant differences in the logistic regression test. Results: Among the 357 patients, 78 patients had cervical spine injuries. The average age was $43.9{\pm}15.2$ yrs old, and the male-to-female ratio was 1.90. The most common mechanism of injury was motor vehicle accidents. There was a significant difference in loss of consciousness, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS)=14, neurologic deficit, posterior neck tenderness, and abnormality of the cervical plain radiographs between the two groups on the logistic regression test. New criteria included the above five variables. If a patient has at least variable, the area under the ROC curve of the new criteria was 0.850, and the sensitivity and the false NPV were 87.2% and 5.2%, respectively. Conclusion: New criteria included loss of consciousness, GCS=14, neurologic deficit, posterior neck tenderness, and abnormality of the cervical plain radiographs. If the patient had at least 1 variable, he or she could have a of cervical spine injury with a sensitivity of 87.2% and a false NPV of 5.2%.
Filter media finely interspersed with activated carbons were prepared by a needle punching process without using chemical binders. Their characteristics were investigated efficiently to abate environmentally harmful gas such as acetaldehyde, and were compared with those of cabin air filter coated with activated carbons by using chemical binders. These combination filters were installed on a vehicle fan placed in a test chamber of capacity similar to the interior volume of a commercially available passenger car, and the efficiency of acetaldehyde abatement was measured as a function of time. The filter utilizing chemical binders showed somewhat better performance for the elimination of acetaldehyde despite the adverse effect of the chemical binder that would clog the micropores of the activated carbons. It turned out that the needle punching process had the activated carbons agglomerated due to hydrophobic interactions, resulting in a relatively larger void area than that of the filter utilizing chemical binders.
The present study examined the effects of krill-derived phosphatidylserine (Krill-PS) on the learning and memory function and the neural activity in rats with trimethyltin (TMT)-induced memory deficits. The rats were administered vehicle (medium-chain triglyceride: MCT) or Krill-PS (50, 100 mg/kg, p.o.) daily for 21 days. The cognitive improving efficacy of Krill-PS in TMT-induced amnesic rats was investigated by assessing the Morris water maze test and by performing choline acetyltransferase (ChAT), acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and cAMP responsive element binding protein (CREB) immunohistochemistry. The rats with TMT injection showed impaired learning and memory of the tasks and treatment with Krill-PS produced a significant improvement of the escape latency to find the platform in the Morris water maze at the $2^{nd}$ and $4^{th}$ day compared to that of the MCT group (p<0.05). In the retention test, the Krill-PS+MCT groups showed increased time spent around the platform compared to that of the MCT group. Consistent with the behavioral data, Krill-PS 50+MCT group significantly alleviated the loss of acetylcholinergic neurons in the hippocampus and medial septum compared to that of the MCT group. Treatment with Krill-PS significantly increased the CREB positive neurons in the hippocampal CA1 area as compared to that of the MCT group. These results suggest that Krill-PS may be useful for improving the cognitive function via regulation of cholinergic marker enzyme activity and neural activity.

We studied the material properties for reliability improvement in finite element analysis results for a nitrile butadiene rubber hub-bearing seal and for a carbon-filled rubber mount used in a vehicle. It was difficult to measure the material properties of hundreds of types of rubber for the mount design. Thus, we suggested that the engineering stressstrain relations from pure shear test data could be synthesized by using simple tension data and Poisson's ratio. We defined Poisson's ratio by using a function of principal stretches to synthesize the stress-strain relations for a pure shear test. A transformation of the pure shear data was applied to the experimental values to obtain the predicted results when the strain approaches 100%. In the finite element analysis for the contact force of a hub-bearing seal, the strain results that used the transformation of the pure shear data and simple tension data almost corresponded to the experimental values. Ogden constants were used to analyze.
The vibrational characteristics of a radial-ply (155SR13 4PR) and a biased-ply tire (6.15-134PR) were investigated for examining the effects of tires with different structure on the ride characteristics of the vehicle. The natural frequencies at the tread band, mode shapes, and damping factors of two tires at the state of plane vibration were determined experimentally. The test work was performed at four levels of the inflation pressure, ranging from 171.7 kPa to 245.2 kPa, and three levels of the vertical load, deviating by 10% from the standard load designated by the Department of Transportation of the United States of America. The following results were drawn by the analysis of the test results: 1. The first-order natural frequencies of the radial-ply and the biased-ply tires at the tread band were 112 Hz and 159 Hz, respectively, at the state o f the free vibration when the inflation pressure of 196.2 kPa was applied. It was known that the biased-ply tire has higher resonant frequency than the radial-ply tire and the natural frequencies of the both tires move to the high frequency range as t he inflation pressure is increased. 2. The vibration modes of both tires were quite different. No big difference in mode shapes was examined as the inflation pressure was increased. But the natural frequencies of two tires were changed. For the radial-ply tire, no difference in mode shape was found whether the vertical load was applied or not. But a significant difference in mode shape was examined for the biased-ply tire. 3. Any difference was not found in damping factor as the different inflation pressures were applied. 4. When no vertical load was applied, damping factors of the radial-ply and biased-ply tire at the state of the natural vibration ranged from 2.6 to 5.9%, and from 4.1 to 7.8%, respectively. It was estimated that the radial-ply tire would have better cushioning than the biased-ply tire since the vertical spring rate of the radial-ply tire was much less than that of the biased-ply tire, even though the damping effect of the radial-ply tire was smaller than that of the biased-ply tire.

The satellite is exposed to the severe vibration environments such as random vibration environments such as random vibration, acceleration, shock, and acoustics during launch ascent and transportation. It is also faced with various space environments such as thermal vacuum, radiation and microgravity during the mission life. The satellite should be designed, manufactured, assembled and tested to be able to endure in these harsh environments. This paper addresses the results of the structural and thermal design and analyses for the HAUSAT-1 picosatellite which is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2005 by Russian launch vehicle "Dnepr". The qualification vibration and thermal vacuum tests have been conducted and passed at the satellite level to ensure that the HAUSAT-1 mechanical system was designed to be stable with enough margin.

This paper proposes a collision prevention system for an agricultural unmanned helicopter. The collision prevention system consists of an obstacle detection system, a mapping algorithm, and a collision avoidance algorithm. The obstacle detection system based on a LiDAR sensor is implemented in the unmanned helicopter and acquires distance information of obstacles in real-time. Then, an obstacle mapping is carried out by combining the distance to the obstacles with attitude/location data of the unmanned helicopter. In order to prevent a collision, alert is activated to an operator based on the map when the vehicle approaches to the obstacles. Moreover, the developed collision prevention system is verified through flight test simulating a flight pattern aerial spraying.

The effects of three fuselage head shapes and nonplanar ground surface on the aerodynamic characteristics of FAST fuselages are investigated using a boundary element method. Wind tunnel test is also performed to validate the present method and to identify the wall effect on the frictional drag which cannot be analyzed using the present method. It is found that the channel has an effect of increasing the lift of those investigated fuselages. The optimal head shape depends on the design conditions of the FAST and its guideway channel. Comparing the calculated induced drag with the measured total drag, it can be concluded that the profile drag is independent of the ground height. Thus, the present numerical method can be applied to the conceptual design of the high-speed ground transporters if only the profile drag of the vehicle in free flight is assumed to be known.
Due to the absence of design guidelines for elevated light-rail structures in Korea, most elevated light-rail structures have been designed and constructed based on the design codes of conventional railway bridges and on the codes recommended by foreign vehicle manufacturers. This is the main reason why most elevated light-rail structures are massive or over-designed or poorly constructed economically. In this paper, the authors carried out field tests to analyze the braking forces caused by braking a train running at speeds of 50km/h, 60km/h, and 70km/h, acting on the elevated structures of rubber-wheeled Light Rail Transit (LRT) trains. The authors also briefly describe the analyzed results of the braking force acting on the substructures of elevated light-rail structures. The test-results presented here in this paper can be referenced when establishing design guidelines or standards for elevated structures of LRT systems.
