A Study on the Design of decision logic for n Tire Pressure Monitoring System (타이어 공기압 모니터링 시스템의 판단 로직 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In a Vehicle, Safety is the most important factor for drivers. It is well known that tire pressure lower than normal reduces the safety of the vehicle. In a consideration of active safety, tire pressure monitoring system is absolutely required. Tire pressure monitoring using in-tire pressure sensors with an RE data link have proven to be best approach to measuring tire pressure over the widest range of operating conditions. In this paper, we describe the parameters of TPMS, the characteristic of tire pressure and temperature compensation. These are the main factors to design the decision logic. We will show the guidelines for TPMS logic development considering environment variables and vehicle conditions.

  • In this paper, we describe a hydraulic system design and vehicle dynamic modeling for development of tire roller traction, an essential aspect in the system analysis of tire rollers. Generally, tire rollers are one of the most useful types of machines employed in road construction, technically applied to many construction fields. We also conceptualize a new hydraulic and driving system as well as define the motion equations for dynamic and hydraulic analysis. First, we design the hydraulic circuit of the steering control and driving machine system, which can be employed to advance the performance of the lateral control, creating a prototype of construction equipment. Second, we formulate the hydraulic steering system model and hydraulic driving system model through tire roller system development technology. Finally, we validate the acquired performance results in actual tire roller equipment using the data acquisition system. These results may perhaps facilitate the establishment of priorities and design strategies for incremental introduction of tire roller technology into the vehicle and construction field.

  • The tire uneven wear has been an ongoing concern for a long time, and one of customer's complaints too. This paper deals with uneven wear improvement of passenger car tires, to have tested the tire wear levels by each wheel alignment set (according to changing toe and camber) using taxis. The pre-set wheel alignments on test vehicle were gained by energy friction simulation of tire. The result of this experiment was as follows : First, verified the effects of initial wheel alignment (adjusted at Curb Vehicle Weight) to minimize tire uneven wear. Second, tire uneven wear makes tire life much shorter than even wear does.

FE Analysis for Fundamental Air-cavity Resonant Frequency of Tire (타이어의 첫 번째 공기공동 공명에 관한 유한요소해석)

  • Vehicle interior noise is the results of numerous sources of excitation. One source involving tire pavement interaction is the tire cavity resonance and the forcing it provides to the vehicle spindle. Using a simplified model for the tire acoustic cavity system only, we formulated finite element equation to predict the fundamental acoustic cavity resonant characteristics inside tire-wheel assembly of undeformed and deformed tire. Combining the finite element analysis with experimental verification, we explained the acoustic characteristics theoretically. Especially, we have shown that the difference between the first two resonant frequencies increases as the deformation of deformed tire increases.

  • In this paper, several tire models (Magic formula, Carpet plot, VA tire, DADS tire and STI tire) are implemented and compared. Since the STI (System Technology Inc.) tire model in the AutoDyn7 program is in a good agreement to NADSdyna STI tire model and experiment, it is selected as a reference tire model for the comparison. To compare tire models, input parameters of each tire model are extracted from the STI tire model to preserve the same tire properties. Several simulations are carried out to compare performances of tire models, i. e., bump simulation, lane change simulation, and pulse steering simulation. The performances in vehicle maneuverability are also compared with the four parameter evaluation method.

  • An autonomous vehicle control algorithm based on Ackerman Geometry is known to be reliable in low tire slip situation. However, vehicles at high speed make lateral errors due to high tire slip. In this paper, considering the tire slip of vehicles, the steering angle is determined based on the Ackerman Geometry and is supplemented tire slip angle by the Stanley steering algorithm. In addition, to prevent the tire slip, the algorithm, which restricts steering if a certain level of slip occurs, is used to reduce the lateral error. While many studies have been extended to include vehicle slip, studies also need to be carried out on the tire slip depending on hardware performance. The control algorithm of autonomous vehicles is compensated considering the sensor noise and the performance of steering actuator. Through the various simulations, it was found that the performance of steering actuator was the key factor affecting the performance of autonomous driving. Also, it was verified that the usefulness of steering algorithm considering the tire slip and performance of steering actuator.

The Development of the Korean Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for Motorcycles : Exterior Rear-View Mirror and Tire (국내 이륜자동차 안전기준 개발 : 후사경과 타이어)

  • As motorcycles are getting more widely used recently, motorcycle accidents are gradually increased every year. Although most accidents are caused by human factors, the importance of motor vehicle safety standards cannot be underestimated indeed. A variety of regulations related to motorcycle safety have been issued in many countries such as EU, U.S., and Australia, etc. In order to harmonize the international safety standards, it is necessary to develop or enhance the Korean Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (KMVSS) for motorcycles. In this study, motorcycle safety standards for an exterior rear-view mirror and a tire are investigated. Actual test procedures are expected in sequential studies according to the results provided herein. Also, the findings in this paper can be utilized to ensure the KMVSS for a safer driving.

A Study on the Dynamic Wheel Loads of 3-D Vehicle Model Considering Tire Enveloping (타이어 접지폭을 고려한 3차원 차량모델에 의한 동적 차륜하중에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, research for dynamic wheel loads of 3-D vehicle model considering tire enveloping model is carried out. Heavy trucks with 2-axles and 3-axles are modeled by 7-d.o.f. and 8-d.o.f., in which contact length of tire and pitching of tandem spring axles is considered. Dynamic equations of vehicle are derived by using the Lagrange's equation and solution of the equation is calculated by 5th Runge-Kutter method. The validity of the developed 3-D vehicle model is demonstrated by comparing the results obtained by the present method and experimental data by Whittemore. The maximum impact factors of tire force are calculated when vehicle models of 8ton and 15ton dump truck are running on the different class roads with 1.0km and on the various step bump.

Development of Tire Lateral Force Monitoring Systems Using Nonlinear Observers (비선형 관측기를 이용한 차량의 타이어 횡력 감지시스템 개발)

  • Longitudinal and lateral forces acting on tires are known to be closely related to the tract-ability braking characteristics handling stability and maneuverability of ground vehicles. In thie paper in order to develop tire force monitoring systems a monitoring model is proposed utilizing not only the vehicle dynamics but also the roll motion. Based on the monitoring model three monitoring systems are developed to estimate the tire force acting on each tire. Two monitoring systems are designed utilizing the conventional estimation techniques such as SMO(Sliding Mode Observer) and EKF(Extended Kalman Filter). An additional monitoring system is designed based on a new SKFMEC(Scaled Kalman Filter with Model Error Compensator) technique which is developed to improve the performance of EKF method. Tire force estimation performance of the three monitoring systems is compared in the Matlab simulations where true tire force data is generated from a 14 DOF vehicle model with the combined-slip Magic Formula tire model. The built in our Lab. simulation results show that the SKFMEC method gives the best performance when the driving and road conditions are perturbed.
