  • Pulse wave velocity (PWV) is used to non-invasively estimate the severity of arteriosclerosis by measuring arterial stiffness. Increased arterial stiffness measured by PWV stands for progressive arteriosclerosis and is caused by atherosclerotic risk factors. This study is focused on how brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) is related to the leading risk factors for arteriosclerosis or atherosclerosis. Subjects were 114, 69 males and 45 females who are in 60's and had baPWV test for acute stroke. The results are as follows: the group with increased arterial stiffness showed significant increase in HbA1c, total cholesterol, BSBP (brachial artery systolic blood pressure), BDBP (brachial artery diastolic blood pressure), CSBP (central artery systolic blood pressure), CDBP (central artery diastolic blood pressure), augmentation index (AIx) and diabetes mellitus. Correlation analysis between baPWV and atherosclerotic risk factor showed significant relationship in age, HbA1c, LDL cholesterol, BSBP, BDBP, CSBP, CDBP and augmentation index. baPWV was independently related to age and BSBP in multiple linear regression analysis. The group with increased arterial stiffness was independently related to BDBP in multiple logistic regression analysis. This study might be meaningful in evaluating the relationship between arterial stiffness and atherosclerotic risk factor in a new way, and be helped to make various studies for cardiovascular disease.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the preference of street furniture and to suggest street furniture design guideline in Kwang-Ju city Subjects consisted of 197 residents in Kwang-Ju city, Kyung-ki area. The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. The results of descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test and ANOVA are presented. The result of this study showed that residents of Kwang-Ju city were not satisfied with street furniture, especially the wastebasket. Natural, easy and simple design for street furniture were highly appraised. And there were distinct differences in preferences of street furniture by sex and age groups. Women group wanted warmer and richer design than the other groups. Older age group wanted more curved and active design than the other groups. Considering these results, it is desirable to apply flexible and unique design according to the various characteristics of users and the region rather than to apply strict and standardized design. These results provide a practical guideline for the development of the street furniture design.

  • Ras small GTPases are involved in regulating various cellular signaling pathways including cell migration, proliferation, and differentiation. Ras GTPase subfamily is comprised of 15 proteins; 11 Ras, 3 Rap, and one Rheb related protein. Some Ras proteins, such as RasC and RasG, have been identified for their major functions, but there are proteins whose functions have not been studied yet, such as RasU and RasX. Here, we investigated the roles of RasU in cell motility and development. RasU shows the highest homology with RasX. To investigate the functions of RasU, rasU null cells were used to observe the phenotype. Cells lacking RasU were larger and more spread than wild-type cells. These results indicate that RasU plays a negative role in cell spreading. In addition, we investigated the roles of RasU in cell motility and development of Dictyostelium cells and found that rasU null cells exhibited decreased random migration speed and delayed developmental process. These results suggest that RasU plays an important role in cell motility and development.

  • Time-limited promotions have become a popular strategy across various product categories including fashion mobile platforms. While consumer feel content and satisfied when they get this , those who miss the opportunity may develop negative feelings and tend to give up on additional price discounts. This phenomenon, known as inaction inertia, has been a crucial subject of consumer behavior research. However, the underlying mechanism within the context of fashion consumption has yet to be discussed. This study investigated whether consumers show inaction inertia when purchasing fashion products and whether involvement moderates product purchases in inaction inertia situations. Hypotheses were tested through an online survey with 336 Korean participants based on fictitious purchase scenarios. In the results, the hypothesized negative influence of inaction inertia on purchase intention for fashion products was statistically confirmed. Furthermore, the hypothesized moderation effect of involvement in the mechanism was confirmed - only within the high (vs. low) age group. To explain, the negative effect of inaction inertia significantly decreases among older consumers of high (vs. low) involvement levels. We contributed to the related academic flow by performing an experimental study on inaction inertia, which had relatively little empirical research compared to the influence confirmed in practice so far. We also provided a novel idea by demonstrating that the moderating effect of product involvement differs depending on the age group.

  • This study investigated perceived discomfort and reasons related to use three information technology products (personal computer, mobile phone and digital television remote controller), and extracted the universal design factors. 240 people (30 females and 30 males for four age groups) participated in the one-to-one interview type of questionnaire, and replied to degree of discomfort at level of items and the reasons of discomfort at level of detailed elements for each product. As a result, almost all age groups answered that using input buttons of mobile phone and remote controller and watching display of mobile phone caused discomfort. Binary logistic regression of the detailed elements showed that response rate of discomfort mostly increased with age, except for specific elements such as shape of mouse and remote controller, and location of function button of mobile phone. Some of the detailed elements had high response rate of discomfort from all age groups. The age groups also showed similar tendency for the elements to select one alternative for the reason of discomfort, but not for sound volume and size of mobile phone and button sensitivity of remote controller. Finally, the universal design factors were extracted for each product based on the results, and divided into common factors and factors classified by the age group. Through this study, we identified using practices of various age groups and their demands for the products. It is expected that extracted detailed elements can be considered as important design factors to design the products universally.

  • The purpose of this study is to research the effect of walking exercise with acaiberry ingestion for 8 weeks on inflammatory markers of middle age women. The participators were aging from 40 to 50 aging healthy women. The first group is classified to ingest acaiberry(AB), the second group is classified to walking exercise with acaiberry ingestion(WE+AB), and third group is classified to just walking exercise(WE). The program was doing walking exercise 3 times per week for 8 weeks. Acaiberry ingestion is after walking exercise for 8 weeks. The amount of the acaiberry is 5g acaiberry dilutes with 100mg water to inhale before breakfast and dinner to monitor CRP of each group before ingest acaiberry and 8 weeks later how to change CRP and cardiovascular disease. Consequently, all of three groups such as: acaiberry ingestion group, walking exercise with acaiberry ingestion group, and just walking exercise group, has positive effect with WBC(white blood cell), Albumin, ESR(erythrocyte sedimentation rate), CRP(C-reactive protein), but Albumin increases very small amount of gaze. Therefore, this study has no longer period time for research, and in the future there should be more concrete and various studies, such as adding more exercise of method, intensity, and measure of ingestion for supporting this study.

  • 1. Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate the anti-aging effect of oral administration with Nocyongdaebo-tang (NYD) decoction in aged rats. 2. Methods The SD rats used in this experiment were 6, 18 and 36 weeks old. A part of the 36weeks was grown to 52 and 68 weeks at labarotary. Each age group was again divided into three groups. These 15 groups consisted of 6 rats each. One group was given no treatment, another group was dosed 200 ${\mu}l$ of normal saline daily, and the last group was dosed 200 ${\mu}l$ of 1% Nocyongdaebo-tang(NYD) and saline mixture. At the conclusion of the experiment, the age groups were relabelled accordingly(10w, 22w, 40w, 52w and 68w). After 4 weeks, the tissue of liver, heart, spleen, lung, kidney and brain was biopsied in order to measure the SOD, GSH, MDA. 3. Results and Conclusions (1) The levels of GSH in the liver were significantly increased in the w-NYD(n=40) and w-NYD(n=68) groups compared with those of the normal groups. The activity of catalase in the liver was also much higher in the w-NYD (n=68) group compared with that of the saline groups. However, the levels of MDA in the liver were significantly decreased in the w-NYD(n=68) group compared with those of the normal and saline groups. (2) The levels of GSH in the spleen were significantly increased in the w-NYD(n=52) and w-NYD(n=68) groups compared with those of the normal and saline groups. (3) The levels of GSH in the lung were significantly increased in the w-NYD(n=40) and w-NYD(n=52) groups compared with those of the normal groups. (4) The levels of GSH in the kidney were higher in the w-NYD(n=40) compared with those of the normal groups and those were also higher in the w-NYD(n=52) groups compared with those of the saline groups, respectively. (5) The levels of GSH in the brain were higher in the w-NYD(n=40) compared with those of the normal groups and those were also higher in the w-NYD(n=52) groups compared with those of the normal and saline groups. (6) Degenerative changes of the brain were decreased in the w-NYD(n=68) group compared with those of the normal and saline groups. These results suggest that oral administration of Nocyongdaebo-tang decoction might have an important role to prevent age-related changes of various organs in aged rats.
