  • Studies on heterotic expression in the silk productivity of 66 thermo-tolerant bivoltine hybrids reared under high temperature $(36{\times}1^{\circ}C)$ and low humidity (60${\times}$5%) conditions revealed that manifestation of heterosis was highly significant for majority of the quantitative traits contributing to more cocoon productivity. Observations were made on 8 economically important traits such as fecundity, pupation rate, cocoon yield, cocoon weight, cocoon shell weight, cocoon shell ratio, cocoon filament length and raw silk. Analysis of variance results revealed great deal of variability indicating significant (P < 0.001) variations. Out of 66 hybrids, 7 hybrids exhibited positive heterosis for seven traits and 4 hybrids expressed significant hetero-beltiosis for 6 traits, out of 8 traits evaluated. Based on results, the hybrids ${SR_1} {\times} {SR_5}and {CSR_2} {\times} {SR_5}$ are adjudged as most promising ones and can be exploited commercially in tropical climates to increase the cocoon productivity.

  • This study was investigated the possibility of measuring chlorophyll in paddy crops using two kinds of chlorophyll meters(SPAD-502, Field Scout). The results of correlation analysis showed the 0.7758(r$^2$) relationship between the chlorophyll contents of paddy leaves measured by SPAD and spectrophotometer. It indicates that chlorophyll content in paddy crops could be measured using the SPAD. Considering the data of the SPAD and Field Scout there was significant difference between their chlorophyll contents measured by the SPAD and Field Scout. Likewise, such results were consistent with the corrected data using light intensity. According to the results, it can be concluded that it is difficult to describe the rice chlorophyll measured by the Field Scout more accurately than the SPAD when using one standard spectrum and another spectrum for reflectance measuring. The chlorophyll variance measured at a research institute and a farmer's field revealed that the output of SPAD was more reliable than that of the Field Scout.

  • The use of lightweight aggregate (LWA) instead of ordinary aggregate may make lightweight aggregate concrete, which possesses many advantages such as lightweight, lower thermal conductivity, and better fire and seismic resistance. Recently the developments of LWA have been focused on using industrial wastes as raw materials to reduce the use of limited natural resources. In view of this, the intent of this study was to apply Taguchi optimization technique in determining process condition for producing synthetic LWA by incorporating waste thin film transition liquid crystal displays (TFT-LCD) glass powder with reservoir sediments. In the study the waste TFT-LCD glass cullet was used as an additive. It was incorporated with reservoir sediments to produce LWA. Taguchi method with an orthogonal array L16(45) and five controllable 4-level factors (i.e., cullet content, preheat temperature, preheat time, sintering temperature, and sintering time) was adopted. Then, in order to optimize the selected parameters, the analysis of variance method was used to explore the effects of the experimental factors on the performances (particle density, water absorption, bloating ratio, and loss of ignition) of the produced LWA. The results showed that it is possible to produce high performance LWA by incorporating waste TFT-LCD glass cullet with reservoir sediments. Moreover, Taguchi method is a promising approach for optimizing process condition of synthetic LWA using recycled glass cullet and reservoir sediments and it significantly reduces the number of tests.

  • The time-consuming and less objectivity are the main problems of conventional micromechanical parameters calibration method of Particle Flow Code simulations. Thus this study aims to address these two limitation of the conventional "trial-and-error" method. A new calibration method for the linear parallel bond model (CM-LPBM) is proposed. First, numerical simulations are conducted based on the results of the uniaxial compression tests on limestone. The macroscopic response of the numerical model agrees well with the results of the uniaxial compression tests. To reduce the number of the independent micromechanical parameters, numerical simulations are then carried out. Based on the results of the orthogonal experiments and the multi-factor variance analysis, main micromechanical parameters affecting the macro parameters of rocks are proposed. The macro-micro parameter functions are ultimately established using multiple linear regression, and the iteration correction formulas of the micromechanical parameters are obtained. To further verify the validity of the proposed method, a case study is carried out. The error between the macro mechanical response and the numerical results is less than 5%. Hence the calibration method, i.e., the CM-LPBM, is reliable for obtaining the micromechanical parameters quickly and accurately, providing reference for the calibration of micromechanical parameters.

  • This study examines the dynamic linkages between food price inflation and its volatility in the context of Sri Lanka. The empirical evidence derived from the monthly data for the period from 2003M1 to 2017M12 for Sri Lanka. The relationship between inflation rate and inflation volatility has attracted more attention by theoretical and empirical macroeconomists. Empirical studies on the relationship between food inflation and food inflation variability is scarce in the literature. Food price inflation is defined as log difference of food price series. The volatility of a food price inflation is measured by conditional variance generated by the FIGARCH model. Preliminary analysis showed that food inflation is stationary series. Granger causality test reveals that food inflation seems to exert positive impact on inflation variability. We find no evidence for inflation uncertainty affecting food inflation rates. Hence, the findings of the study supports the Friedman-Ball hypothesis in both cases of consumer food price inflation and wholesale food price inflation. This implies that past information on food inflation can help improve the one-step-ahead prediction of food inflation variability but not vice versa. Our results have some important policy implications for the design of monetary policy, food policy thereby promoting macroeconomic stability.

  • Given the prevalence of mobile social network services (SNS) such as Facebook and Kakaotalk, it has become important to understand user's continuance behavior in a mobile SNS environment. Although trust and privacy concerns play a key role in SNS users' decision-making processes, most studies on SNS have shed little light on the effects of trust and privacy concerns on SNS continuance intention. In this regard, this paper developed an integrated model to deeply understand the key antecedents of user's continuance intention to use mobile SNS by incorporating trust and privacy concerns into extended expectation-confirmation model. The proposed research model was tested by using survey data collected from 170 users who have experience with Kakaotalk. The findings of this study found that the proposed theoretical framework provides a statistically significant explanation of the variance in continuance intention of mobile SNS. The analysis results indicate that trust serves as the salient antecedent of continuance intention to use mobile SNS. However, it was found that privacy concerns negatively influence trust, whereas it is not significantly related to continuance intention of mobile SNS. The theoretical and practical implications of the findings were described.

  • The synthetic unit hydrograph is developed and verified using Nash model and characteristic velocities considering geomorphological dispersion in this present study. Application watersheds are selected 5 subwatersheds of Bocheong basin. The mean and variance of hillslope and stream path length are estimated in each watershed with GIS. Characteristic velocities are calculated using estimated path lengths and moment characteristics of rainfall-runoff data. Characteristic velocities of random devised 7 ungauged watersheds are estimated through regional analysis of chracteristic velocities in guaged watershed. And Nash model parameters and IUH are derived using characteristic velocities and path length in the gauged and ungauged watershed. The result to compare of IUH about gauged watershed and random devised ungauged watershed in application watershed presents coherently hydrologic response characteristics that peak discharge is reduced and peak time is extended. In conclusion, Developed synthetic unit hydrograph in this study expects that it is useful method to estimate runoff discharge for managing of water pollution in ungauged watershed.

  • The single-modal Weibull model has been assessed on Tyranno ZMI Si-Zr-C-O fiber if a set of shape and scale parameters accurately reproduced the effect of the size of the diameter on strength. The tensile data of a single fiber have been divided into two expedient groups as 'small diameter' group and 'large diameter' group in deriving the parameters, which should be consistent if the Weibull model accurately reproduced the size effect. However, the derived Weibull parameters were inconsistent between the two groups. Thereby the authors have concluded that the parameters of the single-modal Weibull model are dependent on the fiber diameter, so that the model is inadequate to reproduce the strength size effect. On the other hand, Weibull parameters were found consistent between the two groups by excluding the data of 'large mirror zone' sample, which was defined as the sample around 10% mirror zone area of the fracture surface. What is more, the exclusion reduced the strength variance more drastically in the 'large diameter' group than in the 'small diameter' group, even though the 'large mirror zone' samples were found identical in the percentage between the two groups. The authors therefore conclude that diameter limitation to the 'small diameter' group level can lead to drastically less distributed strength values than the estimated strength through the Weibull scaling on the present Tyranno ZMI Si-Zr-C-O fiber.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting trait anger level in undergraduate students. Methods: The participants consisted of 315 undergraduate students at the universities in the P and D cities. Data were collected with a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple stepwise regression with the SPSS/Win 20.0 program. Results: The low trait anger group showed lower levels of anger-out, anger-in and depression compared to the high trait anger group. The anger-control and positive thinking were higher in the low trait anger group than that of high trait anger group. The result of multiple stepwise regression showed that both depression and anger-out were predictors in trait anger in the both groups. In the low trait anger group, anger-control, anger-in, depression, and anger-out were significant factors of trait anger, which accounted for 31% of the total variance. High trait anger level was affected by depression, anger-out and positive thinking, which explained 40% of trait anger. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that anger management program for undergraduate students should consider trait anger level as well as approaches with customized strategies according to trait anger level.
