  • In this paper, we have proposed the efficient algorithm that can segment the video scene change using a various statistical characteristics obtained from by applying the wavelet transformation for each frames. Our method firstly extracts the histogram features from low frequency subband of wavelet-transformed image and then uses these features to detect the abrupt scene change. Second, it extracts the edge information from applying the mesh method to the high frequency subband of transformed image. We quantify the extracted edge information as the values of variance characteristic of each pixel and use these values to detect the gradual scene change. And we have also proposed an algorithm how extract the proper key frame from segmented video scene. Experiment results show that the proposed method is both very efficient algorithm in segmenting video frames and also is to become the appropriate key frame extraction method.

  • This study explored differences in maternal parenting behaviors, children's emotional intelligence, and daily hassles by children's sex and types of aggression. Subjects were 200 children in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade and their mothers from four elementary schools. Instruments were the Maternal Parenting Behaviors Scale (Kim, 2006), the Emotional Intelligence Scale (Lee, 1997), the Daily Hassles Scale(Min & Yoo, 1998), and the Peer-nomination Measure (Crick, 1995; Crick & Grotpeter, 1995). Data were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis and multivariate analysis of variance. Findings revealed that the relational aggressive group had higher emotional intelligence and more daily hassles; girls had higher level of daily hassles than boys. Maternal parenting behaviors did not differ by child's sex and type of aggression.

  • Friction Welds are formed by the mechanisms of diffusion as well as mechanical inter-locking. The severe plastic flow at the interface by the forge action of the process brings the subsurface so close together that detection of any unbounded area becomes very difficult. No reliable method is available so fat to determine the weld quality nondestructively. The paper presents an attempt to determine weld strength quantitatively using the ultrasonic pulseecho method. The new approach calculates the coefficient of reflection based on measured amplitudes of the echoes. This coefficient provides a single quantitative measurement which involves both acoustic energy reflected at the welded interface as well as transmitted across the interface. As a result, it was known that the quantitative relationship between the coefficient and the weld strength (torsional strength) could be drawn.

  • This paper presents the results of an integrated navigation performance analysis for selecting the sensor of an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) using Monte Carlo numerical simulation. An inertial measurement unit (IMU) and Doppler velocity log (DVL) are considered to build the integrated navigation system. The position error and price of the sensor are selected as performance indices to evaluate the volunteer integrated navigation systems. Monte-Carlo simulation is introduced to analyze the circular error probability (CEP) and its variance. Simulation results provide the proper sensor combination for integrated navigation in relation to the performance and price.

  • Brake Moan is a laud and strong noise occurring at any vehicle speed over 2 mph as a low frequency in below 600Hz. In this study, we targeted to shift the unstable mode that causes the brake moan from the moats frequency range to sufficiently higher frequency range to avoid the moan phenomenon. We simulated the finite element model and found out the nodes in which the brake moan occurs the most and we regarded the boundary and its relationship between the brake pad and the rotor as a spring coefficient k. With the binary set of the spring coefficient k, we finally used genetic algorithm (GA) to get the optimal topology of the brake pad and its shape to avoid the brake moan. The final result remarkably shows that genetic algorithm can be used in topology optimization procedures requiring complex eigenvalue problems.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine variables which influenced on fashion jewelry consumers' purchasing behavior. 565 respondents living in Seoul and its suburb were surveyed for this study. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, ANOVA, and regression were used for this study. As the result, the frequencies of purchasing toward the fashion jewelry products were associated with materialism, brand royalty, reference group influence. Also, results revealed that materialism and brand royalty accounted for 41% of the explained variance in the frequency of purchasing products on fashion jewelry. Based on these results, fashion jewelry marketing strategies would be suggested.

  • This study examines two hypothesis regarding return generating process of corporate bonds: the trading day hypothesis and calendar day hypothesis. To differentiate two hypothesis ANOVA(analysis of variance) and regression analysis were used. If the statistical result can not reject calendar day hypothesis, it implies that there is weekend effect. The statistical result didn't support any particular hypothesis for the period of September 7th, 1999 through December 31, 2002. However, corporate bonds were supporting calendar day hypothesis for the period of October 9, 2000 through December 31, 2002. The result indicates that the Korean corporate bond market got through the impact of IMF.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate family-demographic variables (sibling status, maternal attitude and demographic variables) affecting sibling sociability and peer sociability. Mothers and teachers of 291 kindergarten children were sampled. Specifically, 206 children of two-child families were studied by sibling status to investigate differences in sociability among siblings. Factor analysis, F-test, Pearson correlation, and multiple-analysis of variance were conducted. Sibling sociability and peer sociability were affected by sibling status. Maternal attitude and sibling sociability were positively correlated. The important family-demographic variables for both sibling sociability and peer sociability were maternal affective attitudes and sex of child.

  • Recently-used structural reliability models are studied, and the usage and characteristics of each method are discussed. Although the First-Order Second Moment method may be efficient in structural reliability analysis, it has limitations which the limit state equation is linear and all the variables are normal. In that point, the Advanced Second-Moment(ASM) method have many good results, but computation of iterative method are trublesome. The results of ASM method similar to Variance Reduction Techniques(VRT), which is one of the Monte Carlo simulation methods. As a results, it is concluded that ASM method and VRT method are most efficient one.

  • In this study, 197 4- to 6- year-old Korean children wereindividually tested with Concepts about Print(CAP Clay, 2000), the Picture Vocabulary Test(Kim, Jang, Lim & Bak, 1996), Korean-Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence : Verbal Test (K-WPPSI), and the Basic Academy Skills Assessment : Reading(Kim, 2000). Data were analyzed by Pearson-correlation, analysis of variance, and factor analysis. There were significant differences of CAP mean scores by age. Within the subcategories of CAP, Book Orientation Concepts and Print-convention were acquired earlier than other subcategories, followed by Print-direction, Print-order and Advanced Print Concepts in that order. The scores of CAP were positively correlated with the Picture Vocabulary Test, the K-WPPSI verbal test and the reading test.
