  • A family of smart tuned mass dampers (STMDs) with variable frequency and damping properties is analyzed under harmonic excitations and ground motions. Two types of STMDs are studied: one is realized by a semi-active independently variable stiffness (SAIVS) device and the other is realized by a pendulum with an adjustable length. Based on the feedback signal, the angle of the SAIVS device or the length of the pendulum is adjusted by using a servomotor such that the frequency of the STMD matches the dominant excitation frequency in real-time. Closed-form solutions are derived for the two types of STMDs under harmonic excitations and ground motions. Results indicate that a small damping ratio (zero damping is the best theoretically) and an appropriate mass ratio can produce significant reduction when compared to the case with no tuned mass damper. Experiments are conducted to verify the theoretical result of the smart pendulum TMD (SPTMD). Frequency tuning of the SPTMD is implemented through tracking and analyzing the signal of the excitation using a short time Fourier transformation (STFT) based control algorithm. It is found that the theoretical model can predict the structural responses well. Both the SAIVS STMD and the SPTMD can significantly attenuate the structural responses and outperform the conventional passive TMDs.

  • The RGB Bayer filter system consists of a mosaic of R, G, and B filters on the grid of the photo sensors which typical commercial DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras and CCD cameras are equipped with. Lot of unique astronomical data obtained using an RGB Bayer filter system are available, including transient objects, e.g. supernovae, variable stars, and solar system bodies. The utilization of such data in scientific research requires that reliable photometric transformation methods are available between the systems. In this work, we develop a series of equations to convert the observed magnitudes in the RGB Bayer filter system (RB, GB, and BB) into the Johnson-Cousins BVR filter system (BJ, VJ, and RC). The new transformation equations derive the calculated magnitudes in the Johnson-Cousins filters (BJcal, VJcal, and RCcal) as functions of RGB magnitudes and colors. The mean differences between the transformed magnitudes and original magnitudes, i.e. the residuals, are (BJ - BJcal) = 0.064 mag, (VJ - VJcal) = 0.041 mag, and (RC - RCcal) = 0.039 mag. The calculated Johnson-Cousins magnitudes from the transformation equations show a good linear correlation with the observed Johnson-Cousins magnitudes.

  • According to the necessity about information security as well as the advance of IT system and the spread of the Internet, a variety of cryptography algorithms are being developed and put to practical use. In addition the technique about cryptography attack also is advanced, and the algorithms which are strong against its attack are being studied. If the linear transformation matrix in the block cipher algorithm such as Substitution Permutation Networks(SPN) produces the Maximum Distance Separable(MDS) code, it has strong characteristics against the differential attack and linear attack. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm which cm estimate that the linear transformation matrix produces the MDS code. The elements of input code of linear transformation matrix over GF$({2_n})$ can be interpreted as variables. One of variables is transformed as an algebraic formula with the other variables, with applying the formula to the matrix the variables are eliminated one by one. If the number of variables is 1 and the all of coefficient of variable is non zero, then the linear transformation matrix produces the MDS code. The proposed algorithm reduces the calculation time greatly by diminishing the number of multiply and reciprocal operation compared with the conventional algorithm which is designed to know whether the every square submatrix is nonsingular.

  • An experiment was carried out to introduce OsHSP17.9, a low molecular HSP gene isolated from rice plant to orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L.) using Agrobacterium. Mature seed-derived calli of orchardgrass were co-cultured with Agrobacterium tumefaciens EHA101 harboring the plasmid pIG-HSP17.9 for transformation. Calli selected by hygromycin were transferred to N$_{6}$ medium containing 1 mg/L NAA, 5 mg/L kinetin, 250 mg/L cefotaxime and 50 mg/L hygromycin and several hygromycin resistant plants were obtained. Stable incorporation of the introduced OsHSP17.9 to the genome of the hygromycin resistant plants was confirmed by PCR and Southern blot analysis. Transformation efficiency was variable between cultivars in which it was 16.5% in Potomac and 8.0% in Frontier. Constitutive expression of the transgene in the transformed orchardgrass tissues was identified by Northern blot analysis but transcript levels were different among individual plants.s.

  • The Alienor method is a powerful tool for solving global optimization problems. It allows the transformation of a multi-variable problem into a new one that depends on a single variable. Any one-dimensional global optimization method can then be used to solve the transformed problem. Several one-dimensional global optimization methods coupled with the Alienor method have been suggested by mathematicians and it is shown that the suggested methods are successful for test functions. However, there are problems with these methods in engineering practice. In this paper, Lipschitzian optimization without using the Lipschitz constant is coupled with the Alienor method and applied to the test functions. Using test functions, it is shown that the suggested method can be successfully applied to global optimization problems.

  • A numerical technique is developed for the solution of fully developed turbulent recirculating flow in the passage of variable area using the non-orthogonal coordinate transformation. In the numerical analysis, primitive pressure-velocity finite difference equations were solved by SIMPLER algorithm with 2-equation turbulence model and algebraic stress model (ASM). QUICK scheme on the differencing of convective terms which is free from the inaccuracies of numerical diffusion has been applied to the variable grids and the results compared with those from HYBRID scheme. In order to test the effect of streamline curvatures on turbulent diffusion Lee and Choi streamline curvature correction model which has been obtained by modifying the Leschziner and Rodi's model is testes. The ASM was also employed and the results are compared to those from another turbulence model. The results show that difference of convective differencing schemes and turbulence models give significant differences in the prediction of velocity fields in the expansion region and outlet region of the combustor, however show little differences in the parallel flow region.

  • One method for image recognition is template matching. In conventional template matching, the block matching algorithm (BMA) is performed while changing the two-dimensional translational displacement of the template within a given matching image. The template size and shape do not change during the BMA. Since only two-dimensional translational displacement is considered, the success rate decreases if the size and direction of the object do not match in the template and the matching image. In this paper, a variable is added to adjust the two-dimensional direction and size of the template, and the optimal value of the variable is automatically calculated in the block corresponding to each two-dimensional translational displacement. Using the calculated optimal value, the template is automatically transformed into an optimal template for each block. The matching error value of each block is then calculated based on the automatically deformed template. Therefore, a more stable result can be obtained for the difference in direction and size. For ease of use, this study focuses on designing the algorithm in a closed form that does not require additional information beyond the template image, such as distance information.

  • We have recently installed SQUEAN on the 82 inch telescope at the McDonald Observatory, USA. This instrument consists of an ANDOR CCD camera, a focal reducer, an electronic box, an auto guiding system and a new filter wheel which holds up to 20 filters. Currently the filter wheel is equipped with Johnson-Cousins BVRI filters, SDSS rizY and isiz filters, and 50nm medium band pass filters (M625(625nm), M675(675nm), M725(725nm), M775(775nm), M825(825nm), M875(875nm), M925s(925nm), M975(975nm), and M1025(1025nm)). Our medium band pass filter system is suitable with SED fitting. Filter transformation methods are essential for time-domain observations including transient objects, e.g., supernovae, variable stars, and solar system bodies. In this work, we develop a series of equations to convert the open clusters photometry data within these filter systems.

  • Name and change of style of Chopni were inspected to understand transformation of Chosun costume. During Chosun era Chopni had two significant roles(general) daily clothes and Yungbok; prior to the mid-Chosun it was largely used as daily clothes but after the mid-Chosun it was mainly used as Yungbok, In the case of daily clothes Chopni was utilized as under-coat among various coats and had the name of Chopni symbolizing function of clothes. In the case of YUNGBOK it was used as outer clothing of military men had the name of Cholik symbolizing form of clothes. These facts represent that emphasis was placed on beauty in the case of YUNGBOK to confer ceremonial meaning as outer clothes. In transformation of costume examining by change of Chopni we can see that name and style are changed with role of clothes That is when clothes is used as under such as under-coat name and style mainly represent function whereas they mainly represent beauty when used as outer clothes such as YUNGBOK In addition change of role might be considered as an independent variable which changed name and style dependently. That is change of style produced change of name and time lay between change of style and change of name was found to be about 1 centry.

  • Multiplicative noise model is the one of popular method for masking continuous variables. In this paper, we propose the transformation on the variable to which random noise was multiplied. An advantage of the masking method using proposed transformation is that the masking data users can obtain the unbiased values of mean and variance of original (unmasked) data. We also consider the data utility and correlation structure of variables when we apply the proposed multiplicative noise scheme. To investigate the properties of the method of masking based on multiplicative noise, a simulation study has been conducted using the 2008 Householder Income and Expenditure Survey data.
