  • The component for satisfying several domain requirements must be developed to support variety. But, when the application is developed using the component, it happens other requirements. So, it is difficult to design component to satisfy severaldomain requirements. Also, it is impossible to support the special business logic. As this problem, the component must provide to the white-box component, it is not the black-box component. So, in this paper, we propose the variability design technique and the customization technique using the design technique that can support the various requirements. This technique is not focus on designing the component to analyze various domains. The variability of the component is designed to the initial variability in the component development phase and we use the customization technique for applying the variability to developing application. The variability can be re-designed during developing the application to use the component applying the variability. The variability of the component is evolved and the generation of the component is increased via the iteration Generally, the range of the component variability is classified the function modification within the component and the component internal structure modification as requirements in the component outside. As the range of the variability, we propose the variability design technique of the behavior and the message flow. This paper proposes a message flow design technique for modifying function call.

  • Although the government has revised the child welfare act, institutionalized the establishment of local children's centers, and given financial support for them, there are a number of problems with respect to their operation. Specifically, one of main problems is their limited space. Diverse problems that go with the arrangement of limited space and usability have occurred, however there are only a few strategies to use limited space flexibly. This study assumed variability as one of the methods to solve spatial problems. As a basic research for the assumption, Analyzing the variable method and characteristics of domestic and foreign child-care facility guidelines was performed trying to take advantage of as a basic data in order to seek a variable scheme of local children centers' indoor space. For this purpose, study analysed the methods and characteristics of variability centering on aspects related to variability which are environmental design elements required by local children's centers as suggested in previous studies. The results are as follows. First, the variability of space should be planned according to activity and time, and consider the methods of division, storage, and other facilities necessary. Second, methods of variability in space can be classified into creating areas and structures that are variable. Third, as a result of analysing the environmental design elements required by local children's centers, this study discovered the following characteristics: multi-purpose usability through a combination of variable devices, transition through a variable space medium and setting up areas and expansion of indoor variability assuming usability through internal and external connections.

  • Taguchi has used the signal-to-noise ratio (SN) to achieve the appropriate set of operating conditions where variability around target is low in the Taguchi parameter design. Taguchi has dealt with having constraints on both the mean and variability of a characteristic (the dual response problem) by combining information on both mean and variability into an SN. Many Statisticians criticize the Taguchi techniques of analysis, particularly those based on the SN. In this paper we propose a substantially simpler optimization procedure for parameter design to solve the dual response problems without resorting to SN.

  • Component-Based Development (CBD) has emerged as a new effective technology that reduces development cost and time-to-market by assembling reusable components in developing software. The degree of conformance to standards and common features in a domain largely determines the reusability of components. In addition, variability within commonality should also be modeled and customization mechanism for the variability should be designed into components. Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) is considered a most suitable environment for implementing components. However. the reusability of EJB is limited because EJB does not have built-in variability design mechanisms. In this paper, we present efficient variability design techniques for implementing components in EJB. We propose a method to customize the variability of EJB-based components by applying three variability design mechanisms; selection, plug-in, and external profile. And we elaborate the suitable situations where each variability design mechanism can be applied, and conduct a technical comparison to other approaches available.

  • This study investigates transformable designs in contemporary fashion. In contemporary society, designs are accompanied by various changes such as transformation of shapes or variation of material beyond the certain form of dress. As a result of having interest in transformable designs with the various attempts on the overall design, transformable design is being suggested as an attempt as the new manner, radical concept, or alternative of multi-purpose lifestyle. With the constant research and collection presentation by the designers of empirical disposition, transformable dress has been evolving gradually. The feature of transformable design appeared in dress is considered as 'variability' which changes in the flow of time. Furthermore, the morphological variability and variability of material have been examined as visual stimuli and conversion of material. By analyzing and assorting diverse transformable dresses comprehensively, it could be divided into technique-oriented transformable design and transformable design with a wearer's intervention. The technique-oriented transformable design is subdivided into the conversion of material and the conversion of form; the transformable design with a wearer's intervention into the conversion of functional frame and the conversion of aesthetic feature.

  • It is difficult to design a component to satisfy several domain requirements and almost impossible to support a specific business logic completely. To satisfy this requirement, there need white box components rather than black box components. So, in this paper, we propose the variability design technique and the customization technique that can support the various requirements of domains. The initial variability of the component is designed at the CD (component development) phase and the customization technique is used for further application of the variability. In the paper, the behavior variability design and customization techniques are used for altering component behavior. As the components that have been developed using the variability technique can easily be re designed during the development of the applications, the variability of the components can be generalized further.

  • Several statistical procedures for assessment of bioequivalence of variabilities between two drug formulations in bioequivalence trials are reviewed and modified methods for assessing total variability are suggested. The problem of the current US FDA aggregate criterion for population bioequivalence and the necessity of disaggregate criterion are discussed with an illustrated example.

  • According to the size of mobile applications has been expanded, the coupling of among mobile applications or servers also will be growing. The growth of mobile application's size means that predicting design for variability should be involved. If mobile application's change is occurred, application should be reinstalled totally. However this reinstallation can raise side-effects in case of high-coupling applications. Therefore, this paper proposes a technique of designing variability for mobile applications in android platform. Proposed technique is separated into selection technique and plug-in technique.

  • Robust design in industry is an approach to reducing performance variation of quality characteristic value in products and processes. Taguchi has used the signal-to-noise ratio(SN) to achieve the appropriate set of operating conditions where variability around target is low in the Taguchi parameter design. In this paper we propose a substantially simpler optimization procedure for robust design to solve the dual response problems without resorting to SN. Two examples illustrate this procedure. in the two different experimental design(product array, combined array) approaches.

  • Sample size determination plays an important role in designing a bioequivalence trial. Formulae of sample sizes based on Schuirmann's two one-sided tests procedures are given for bioequivalence studies with the $2{\times}2$ crossover design and two-sample parallel design. A practical discussion for the relationship among these formulae is given.
