TRANSIENT FLAMELET MODELING FOR COMBUSTION PROCESSES OF HSDI DIESEL ENGINES

  • The representative interactive flamelet(RIF) concept has been applied to numerically simulate the combustion processes and pollutant formation in the HSDI diesel engine. In order to account for the spatial inhomogeneity of the scalar dissipation rate, the eulerian particle flamelet model using the multiple flamelets has been employed. The vaporization effects on turbulence-chemistry interaction are included in the present RIF procedure. the results of numerical modeling using the rif concept are compared with experimental data and with numerical results of the widely-used ad-hoc combustion model. Numerical results indicate that the rif approach including the vaporization effect on turbulent spray combustion process successfully predicts the ignition delay characteristics as well as the pollutant formation in the HSDI diesel engines.

  • For design of cryogenic propellant feeding system, one of the main requirements is to meet temperature requirement for satisfying turbo-pump NPSH requirement. In this paper improved method of estimating the thermal stratification in liquid oxygen tank is presented to help design. In the case of liquid rocket using turbo-pump, the inner pressure of liquid oxygen tank is maintained low, so vaporization of liquid oxygen is generally occurred. In this paper, inner process of LOX tank is analyzed by two phase flow modeling. The vaporization rate and required helium mass is investigated.

  • 본 연구에서는 선회유동과 재순환영역이 있는 제한된 동축 분류유동(confined coaxial jet flow)을 갖는 연소기에 대하여 노즐을 통하여 분사된 연료액적의 증발 및 연소, 그리고 주위기체유동에 관한 제반현상을 정상상태 하에서 모사하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있으며 수치계산에 의한 이론적 해석방법으로 기상은 오일러 방식, 액상은 라 그란지 방식을 채택하였고 후술될 증발 및 연소모델을 적용하였다.

  • 본 연구는 폐용제를 가열, 증발 및 음축과정을 거쳐 용제를 회수하는 시스템의 열교환기 해석에 관한 것으로, 고온 열매체유로 가열되는 이중관형 열교환기를 사용하여 용제 증발과정의 열전달 특성을 분석하고 용제유량과 가열온도에 따라 물, 벤젠 및 알칼벤젠의 증발을 위해 요구되는 전열면적을 분석하였다. 폐용제 회수장치는 용제 공급펌프 이중관형 열교환기, 진공 스프레이 챕버 및 응축기동으로 구성되며, 이중관형 열교환기는 용제액을 열적 포화온도를 가열시키는 구간과 포화된 용제액을 증발시키는 구간으로 구성된다. 관 내 용제의 증발을 위한 전열면적을 열평형 모델링에 의해 예측하였고, 이중관형 열교화기의 관 내 온도분포 측정을 통해 이론값과 비교 분석하였다. 용제유량 0.1~0.51l/mm 및 가열온도 130~$260^{\circ}C$의 범위에서 용제유향 증가 및 가열온도 감속에 따라 단위전열면적당 열전달양이 감소하기 때문에 용제 증발을 위한 전열면적은 증가하였다. 관 내 용제 증발을 위한 전열면적의 이론적 분석결과는 측정값과 일치하였으며, 이중관형 열교환기를 사용한 폐용제의 증발과정을 통해 용제를 회수하는 기술에 적용이 가능하다.

  • LNG is extremely cold, $-160^{\circ}C$ in its liquid state. When it vaporizes, returning to its natural state (re-vaporization), it cools its surroundings. This is cold energy. The manufacturing of liquid air is the first processes developed as the most effective utilization of LNG cold. In this paper, adopting the LNG cold process for manufacturing liquid air was developed and analysed. The result showed that as the higher air pressure and adapting nitrogen precooling, liquefaction rate and cumulative mass was increased.

  • The present study has numerically investigates the vaporization, auto-ignition and combustion processes in the high-pressure and high-temperature conditions encountered in the diesel engine. In the present study, in order to understand the overall spray combustion characteristics of DME fuel as well as to identify the distinctive differences of DME combustion processes compared to conventional hydrocarbon liquid fuels, the sequence of the comparative analysis has been systematically made for DME and n-Heptane liquid fuels. Computations for DME fuel are made for two cases including constant fuel mass flow rate condition and fixed heat release rate. Based on numerical results, the discussions are made for the detailed combustion processes of DME and n-Heptane spray.

  • 증발하면서 원형으로 퍼져가고 있는 액체에 대한 모델을 지배하는 연립 상미분 방정식은 지금까지 수치해석적인 방법으로 풀어 왔는데 본 연구에서 섭동해를 최초로 구하였다. 액체의 순간적인 누출과 연속적인 누출에 대하여 섭동 변수로써 단위면적 당 증발률을 사용하여 1차항까지 섭동해를 구하였다. 1차 섭동해의 계산 결과 풀의 부피에 대하여 초기에는 수치해와 잘 일치 하였으나 후기에는 약간의 차이가 존재하였으며 풀의 반경에 대하여는 두가지 종류의 해가 거의 일치 하였다.

Hygrothermal Fracture Analysis in Dissimilar Materials

  • This paper demonstrates an explicit-implicit, finite element analysis for linear as well as nonlinear hygrothermal stress problems. Additional features, such as moisture diffusion equation, crack element and virtual crack extension(VCE) method for evaluating J-integral are implemented in this program. The Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics(LEFM) Theory is employed to estimate the crack driving force under the transient condition for an existing crack. Pores in materials are assumed to be saturated with moisture in the liquid form at the room temperature, which may vaporize as the temperature increases. The vaporization effects on the crack driving force are also studied. The ideal gas equation is employed to estimate the thermodynamic pressure due to vaporization at each time step after solving basic nodal values. A set of field equations governing the time dependent response of porous media are derived from balance laws based on the mixture theory. Darcy's law is assumed for the fluid flow through the porous media. Perzyna's viscoplastic model incorporating the Von-Mises yield criterion are implemented. The Green-Naghdi stress rate is used for the invariant of stress tensor under superposed rigid body motion. Isotropic elements are used for the spatial discretization and an iterative scheme based on the full Newton-Raphson method is used for solving the nonlinear governing equations.

폐기물 소각시 생성되는 유해 중금속물질의 증발.응축현상에 대한 연구 (Vaporization and condensation of metallic species in hazardous waste incineration)

  • For selected (pure and compound) metallic species effects of saturation ratio, temperature, particle size and number density on condensation mechanisms are first reviewed. The tendencies for vaporization and condensation differ between metallic species because of the significant differences in their saturation pressures. Then particle pressure of a metal vapor species at incineration temperature is calculated by simplifying waste as a compound of methane, chlorine and small amounts of metals and assuming a thermodynamic equilibrium state. Next the condition is assessed for which supersaturation of combustion gases by the species above the critical level for homogeneous condensation may occur, when the gases contain a large number of pre-existing particles such as entrained ashes. Regardless of the presence of chlorine in the waste, the homogeneous condensation of PbO vapors may occur, depending on number density of the pre-existing particles. However, when chlorine exists in the waste, the homogeneous condensation of PbCl$_2$vapors does not occur, which is similar to the case of Cd and Hg vapors. Thus these highly volatile species, PbCl$_2$, Cd, and Hg, may emit to atmosphere as vapor phase. In general, for reducing the emission of hazardous metallic species into the atmosphere, the number density of pre-existing particles has to be increased. For fixed particle number density, the temperature drop rate must be kept in low if the temperature at which a condensable vapor species emits from a incineration system is fixed, while the temperature drop rate must be kept in high if the residence time for which a condensable species stays in the system is fixed.
