  • Organic pollutants that contained in stream sediments have origins of mountain soil in natural and cattle manure in human activity. Nitrogen and carbon isotope analysis for mountain soil, cattle manure and stream sediment were performed for contribution evaluation of organic pollutants in Toil stream of Yeongju dam basin. Average carbon isotope ratio(δ13C) is -25.17‰, -22.34‰, and -26.39‰ for river sediments, cattle manure and mountain soil, respectively. Result of carbon isotope analysis suggests that river sediments are more affected by acid soils. Average value of the nitrogen isotope ratio (δ15N) is 9.46% for river sediment, 1.99% for mountain soil, and 19.53% for cattle manure. Result of nitrogen isotopic analysis show that contribution of cattle mature is slightly higher than that of mountain soil in Toil stream sediments.

  • This study aims to identify benthic macroinvertebrate fauna inhabiting at the mountain valley stream (Mt. Cheonggye) in Korea and the relationship between physical environmental factors and biological indices. Benthic macroinvertebrates were collected at five locations on August 24 and October 14, 2020, and were identified as 4 phyla, 7 classes, 16 orders, 42 families, and 72 species. Dominance ranged from 0.38 to 0.59, diversity 2.81 to 3.75, richness 3.25 to 4.63, evenness 0.65 to 0.84, and %EPT (Ephemeroptera-PlecopteraTrichoptera) richness value 42% to 73%, respectively. All sites were evaluated as a very good status by mostly biological indices based on tolerance of indicator organisms in Korea. As a result of principal component analysis, biological indices are classified into species-level indices and higher cartegory-level indices according to the taxonomic level of the indicator organism considered in each index. As a result of canonical correspondence analysis, it was confirmed that current velocity was a major factor that increased species richness and classified biological indices according to taxonomic category level. Water depth was a major factor related to the community indices, and the deeper the water depth, the lower the diversity and the evenness.

  • The objective of this study is to develop the equations for concentration time and storage coefficient considering regional trend in urban stream watershed for reliable hydrological analysis. The 13 basins located in Jungrang, Tan, Anyang, and Hongje stream are selected for the data collection and formula development in this study. The stepwise multiple-regression analysis is used for the development considering watershed, urban, and precipitation characteristic indices. The developed formulae are compared with the domestic and foreign empirical formulae and evaluated the accuracy in urban stream area. It shows the computed value from the equation developed in this study is more accurate than those from other empirical formulae. The error sum, average error and RMSE of computed values from the developed equations in this study are the lowest. The formulae considering the regional trend of urban stream watershed are worth in terms of showing better results than the domestic and foreign empirical formulae. It can be concluded the developed formulae can be useful in urban stream watershed.

  • Background: Continuous surveillance of pattern of blood stream infection is necessary in febrile neutropenia (FN)especially with the recent escalating trend in the management of pediatric cancer patients towards intensified regimens and with the increase in infections caused by resistant organisms limiting the choice of antibiotics. Aim: To monitor change in pattern of blood stream infections (BSI) in FN pediatric cancer patients. Materials and Methods: Surveillance of FN episodes with positive BSI was prospectively monitored and compared to a previous surveillance in the same pediatric oncology unit. Results: A total of 232 BSI positive episodes were documented in 192 patients during a 6 months period. The results of recent surveillance analysis showed an increase in intensified regimens of chemotherapy, antimicrobial resistance, fungal infections, and prolonged duration of episodes when compared to previous surveillance, with p value sof <0.001, 0.005, 0.021, and <0.001, respectively. There was an apparent decrease in the crude mortality but this was not statistically significant, to 6% in 2011 from 10 % in 2006. Conclusions: The pattern of BSI at our institution is still inclining towards gram positive organisms but is showing a shift towards more antibiotic resistance and fungal infections.

  • In order to estimate delivered nutrients load from non-point sources in the Gap stream watershed in Daejeon, a distributed watershed model SWAT2000 was used so that it could predict the impact of land management practices on water, sediments and chemicals yields in large complex watersheds with varing soils, land uses and management condition over long period of time. The SWAT2000 was applied to the Daejeon (Indong), Yudeung (Boksu) and Gap (Hoeduck) streams for TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load) of nutrients. The observed water quality and streamflow data of the year of 2002 and 2003 were used for calibration, and those of the year 2004 and 2005 were used for validation. Simulated results were evaluated by Estimation Efficiency Analysis (COE), Regression Analysis $(R^2)$ and Relative Error (R.E.) for the nutrients amounts on the monthly and yearly basis by comparing observed load with estimated load obtained by using SWAT2000 simulations. The COE value fur T-N was ranged from 0.59 to 0.78, $R^2$ values for T-N ranged from 0.65 to 0.84, and R.E values fur T-N load ranged from 4% to 20%. COE value far T-N was ranged from 0.59 to 0.73, $R^2$ values for T-P ranged from 0.67 to 0.82, and R.E values for T-P load ranged from 3% to 25%. Estimated results of SWAT2000 simulation for 3 sites (Indong, Boksu, Hoedeok) were reasonably satisfactory. This study indicated that SWAT2000 model could be applicable to estimate the nutrients load from the Gap stream watershed in Korea.

  • The research about customer value has developed over the past years in the marketing field. On the other hand, the stream of the idea has not fully been structured yet. It is the purpose of this research to present the process of development together with the intellectual structure in the field of customer value researches using "Author Co-citation Analysis" (ACA). For the purpose of the research, authors chosen were ranked in order of frequency according to their citations which were used for network analysis. Further, it was of advantage in finding the development process for this research from 1996 to 2011. The trend were set into three time-line groups/trends (1996~2000, 2001~2005, and 2006~2011) that were respectively analyzed. In conclusion, the research represents the intellectual structure of customer value in each period. The research having been tried, influenced a variable field in other marketing researches. While still, many researches limit their focus on a "one-way customer value, used by companies in the past and some in the present, many researches now have a wider perspective about the value and relationship of their customer and their company, together with the society at large.

  • Applicability of 8 day interval flow data for the calibration of hydrologic model was evaluated using Hydrological Simulation Program-Fortran (HSPF) at Kyungan watershed. The 8 day interval flow monitored by Ministry of Environment located at upstream was calibrated and periodically validated during 2004-2008. And continuous daily flow monitored by Ministry of Construction & Transportation (MOCT) and located at the mouth was compared with daily simulated data during 2004-2007 as spatial validation. Automatic calibration tool which is Model-Independent Parameter Estimation & Uncertainty Analysis (PEST) was applied for HSPF calibration procedure. The model efficiencies for calibration and periodic validation were 0.63 and 0.88, and model performances were fair and very good, respectively, based on criteria of calibration tolerances. Continuous daily stream flow at the mouth of Kyungan watershed were good agreement with observed continuous daily stream flow with showing 0.63 NS value. The PEST program is very useful tool for HSPF hydrologic calibration using non-continuous daily stream flow as well as continuous daily stream flow. The 8 day interval flow data monitored by MOE could be used to calibrate hydrologic model if the continuous daily stream flow is unavailable.

  • This study focused on the causes of fish kills and its prevention methods in Yudeung Stream, Daejeon, Korea. Intense field data, continuous water quality monitoring system and water quality modeling were applied to analyze the causes. Pollutant can be delivered to urban streams by surface runoff and combined sewer overflows in rainfall events. However, water quality analysis and water quality modeling results indicate that the abrupt fish kills in the Yudeung stream seems to be caused by combined effect of DO depletion, increase in turbidity and other toxic material. Excessive fish population in the study area may harm the aesthetic value of the stream and also has greater potential for massive fish kills. It is suggested to implement methods to reduce delivery of pollutants to the stream not only to prevent fish kills but also to keep balance of ecosystem including human uses. Frequent clean up of the urban surface and CSO, installation of detention basin will be helpful. In the long run, it seems combined sewer system has be replaced with separate sewer system for more effective pollutant removal in the urban area.
