  • In this study, we quantitatively analyzed the data by measuring the radiation shielding rate and uniformity in order to evaluate the performance of an Apron. In addition, storage conditions were also evaluated. The uniformity measurement was performed by evaluating the Apron DICOM images using a PACS program. The experiment was intended for 51 Aprons being used in three hospitals in the Daejeon area. The radiation shielding rate and uniformity were measured per lead equivalent for 0.25 mmPb, 0.35 mmPb, and 0.5 mmPb. As a result, the higher lead equivalents were, the greater differences in the non-uniformity between the top part and the bottom part became (p=0.020). In all hospitals, regarding the non-uniformity of four places in Aprons, all showed statistically significant differences (p<0.01). The average value of the transmitted radiation dose showed less difference (p=0.005) in the bottom right than in the upper right but was statistically significant. There have been no marks of manufacturing date or the date of purchase in the Apron.

  • For decades, scientists and clinicians have examined methods of measuring scalp hair growth. There has been a greater need for reliable, economical and minimally invasive means of measuring hair growth and, specifically, response to Oriental medicine therapy. We review the various methods of measurement described to date, their limitations and value to the clinician. In our opinion, the potential of computer-assisted technology in this field is yet to be maximized and the currently available tools are less than ideal. The most valuable means of measurement at the present time are global photography and phototrichogram-based techniques (with digital image analysis). Subjective scoring systems are also of value in the overall assessment of response to therapy and these are under-utilized and merit further refinement.

  • Angiopoietin-like 4 (ANGPTL4) has been identified as an adipokine involved in several non-metabolic and metabolic diseases, including angiogenesis, glucose homeostasis, and lipid metabolism. To date, the role of ANGPTL4 in cancer growth and progression, and metastasis, has been variable. Accumulating evidence suggests that proteolytic processing and posttranslational modifications of ANGPTL4 can significantly alter its function, and may contribute to the multiple and conflicting roles of ANGPTL4 in a tissue-dependent manner. With the growing interest in ANGPTL4 in cancer diagnosis and therapy, we aim to provide an up-to-date review of the implications of ANGPTL4 as a biomarker/oncogene in cancer metabolism, metastasis, and the tumor microenvironment (TME). In cancer cells, ANGPTL4 plays an important role in regulating metabolism by altering intracellular glucose, lipid, and amino acid metabolism. We also highlight the knowledge gaps and future prospect of ANGPTL4 in lymphatic metastasis and perineural invasion through various signaling pathways, underscoring its importance in cancer progression and prognosis. Through this review, a better understanding of the role of ANGPTL4 in cancer progression within the TME will provide new insights into other aspects of tumorigenesis and the potential therapeutic value of ANGPTL4.

  • In this study, we investigate electron transport properties in xenon gas by using a Monte Carlo technique for electrons with energies below 10 keV. First of all, we determine a set of electron collision cross sections with xenon by scrutinizing the cross section data taken from many publications. Then, the W value and the Fano factor for electrons in gaseous xenon are computed by the Monte Carlo simulation on the assumption that electrons undergo single collision events including elastic, excitation and ionization processes. We also evaluate the production number of excited atoms.

  • We present two approaches of the stochastic interest rate European option pricing model. One is a bond numeraire approach which is applicable to a nonzero value asset. In this approach, we assume log-normality of returns of the asset normalized by a bond whose maturity is the same as the expiration date of an option instead that of an asset itself. Another one is the expectation hypothesis approach for value zero asset which has futures-style margining. Bond numeraire approach allows us to calculate volatilities implied in options even though stochastic interest rate is considered.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of sowing date and cutting time on feed value of rye in paddy field at Yesan from Oct. 1990 to June 1991. The field experiment was sown 5 times at 10 day intervals from Oct. 5. The content of crude protein, digestible protein, total digestible nutrient(TDN), minerals(P, K, Ca, Mg), and energy(ENE, NEL, NEM, NEG) were decreased due to earlier sowing, while the content of acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber(NDF) increased. On the other hand, the yields per unit area for crude and digestible protein, TDN, minerals, and energy increased due to earlier sowing, but there was no significant difference among the plots sown on Oct. 5 through Oct. 25. The highest yield of crude protein was shown at late flowering stage, digestible protein and net energy gain (NEG) at heading stage and TDN at milk stage respectively.

  • Recently, many business and government organizations have benefitted by executing projects using TOC-CCPM(Theory of Constraints-Critical Chain Project Management). In parallel, Earned Value Management(EVM) metrics have also become popular. Many organizations like US government requires that all large projects measure and report project progress status using EVM. Thus, project management in business fields such as plant construction, IT development, ship building need to integrate TOC-CCPM and EVM in oder to keep and reduce the delivery date of projects for improvement of customer satisfaction and enlargement of business opportunity. This paper proposes the scheme and case of developing the Synchro-EVM system which TOC-CCPM and EVM are connected.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of sowing and harvesting dates on agronomic characteristics and feed values of rye and triticale at Sanchoeng, South Korea. The experimental design consisted of the different sowing and harvesting dates as follows; rye (Secale cereale L., cv. Gogu) of sowing (October 15, 25, and November 5) in 2015 and harvesting (April 20, May 1 and May 11) in 2016, and triticale (X Triticosecale, cv. Joseong) of sowing (October 15, 25, and November 5) in 2015 and harvesting (May 18, 28, and June 7) in 2016. In rye, fresh and dry matter (DM) yields increased (p<0.05) with the delayed-harvesting date. Crude protein (CP) content and relative feed value (RFV) decreased (p<0.05) with the delayed-harvesting date, but neutral detergent fiber (NDF) content increased (p<0.05). In triticale, fresh and dry matter (DM) yields increased (p<0.05) with the delayed-harvesting date. The CP content decreased (p<0.05) with the delayed-harvesting date, but NDF content and RFV increased (p<0.05). This study concluded that rye sown in the middle of October then harvested in early May, and the triticale sown at the end of October then harvested at the end May are recommended to increase dry matter yield and feed value.

  • Serum biochemical values were measured in blood samples collected from 8 fasted stags from both jugular and femoral veins at 18-day intervals during antler growth. Samples were analyzed for blood substrate, enzyme activity values, minerals and electrolyte. There were no significant differences in total protein, albumin, urea, creatinine, triglyceride, glucose or cholesterol concentration between veins or sampling dates. However, total-bilirubin concentration in the jugular vein on the casting date was three times higher than on the other sampling dates (p<0.05). There were no significant differences in alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase, and alanine aminotransferase with progressing antler growth. The highest level of alkaline phosphatase concentration was on day 55 after casting. There were no significant differences in inorganic phosphorus, sodium and chloride concentration between jugular and femoral samples. Calcium concentration was significantly higher in the femoral vein on the cutting date (55 day) than in the jugular vein (p<0.05). There were few changes in serum biochemical values. However, some electrolytes and minerals had differences during antler growth. It is suggested that despite such a big event as antler growth, blood biochemical values are not variable if feeding conditions are consistently maintained as was the case in this study.

  • The objectives of the present study were to assess the oxidative stability of South Korean n-3 (omega-3 fatty acid) supplements carried out from 2018 to 2019 and evaluate the influence of product characteristics on oxidative safety. A total of 76 n-3 supplements were analysed for oxidation safety by four markers, including acid value (AV), primary oxidation (peroxide value, PV), secondary oxidation (p-anisidine value, pAV) and total oxidation value (TOTOX). Among the supplements tested, 5.3 %, 55.3 %, 28.9 % and 46.1 % exceeded the international voluntary recommended levels for AV, PV, pAV and TOTOX, respectively. Purity (%) of products, remainder of expiration date (suggested shelf life), package in press through package (PTP) and products with additives had statistically significant differences oxidation assessment levels (p < 0.05). In addition, n-3 group found in Algae oil had significantly lower AV levels than the group that did not, and product with Alaska pollack oil, had significantly higher pAV levels than without group (p < 0.05). The high oxidation status of South Korean n-3 products in the present study could not be considered a public health problem right now. However, the levels of oxidation may affect a lot the efficacy and safety of using n-3 supplements. Thus, current oxidation safety limits should be reestablished by regulatory bodies to ensure the safety and efficacy of n-3 supplements, so that the standards could be applied to the products available to consumers.
