  • The paper describes the validation of two time domain methods to simulate the behaviour of a destroyer operating in steep, stern-quartering seas. The significance of deck-edge immersion and water on deck on the capsize risk is shown as well as the necessity to account for the wave disturbances caused by the ship. A method is described to reconstruct experimental wave trains and finally two deterministic validation cases are shown.

  • Herein a review is made on the validation problem of numerical codes applied to floating offshore structures. Since the dynamic behaviour of offshore floating structures in water waves is in general complex and nonlinear, a numerical approach seems to be promising. However, numerical codes are likely involved with uncertainties and they at the present status show apparent scatterness in typical bechmark tests, particularly in second-order wave forces. Convergence test is the minimum requirement for the validation of numerical codes. Some other practical check points are introduced to clarify the potential error sources. It is concluded that a standard procedure for validation must be urgently established sothat numerical methods can safely be used as a rational design tool.

  • The validation technique is classified with two methods whether to demand of additional experimental points. The method which requires additional experimental points such as RSME is actually impossible in engineering field. Therefore, the method which only use experimented points such as the cross validation technique is only available. But the cross validation not only requires considerable computational costs for generating metamodel each iterations, but also cannot measure quantitatively the fidelity of metamodel. In this research we propose a new validation technique for representative metamodels using an variance of metamodel and confidence interval information. The proposed validation technique computes confidence intervals using a variance information from the metamodel. This technique will have influence on choosing the accurate metamodel, constructing ensemble of each metamodels and advancing effectively sequential sampling technique.

  • In this paper we suggest an efficient method to estimate the distribution function using the Bezier curve, and compare it with existing methods by simulation studies. In addition, we suggest a robust version of cross-validation criterion to estimate the number of Bezier points, and showed that the proposed method is better than the existing methods based on simulation studies.

  • The fire resistance of composite steel and concrete structures may be determined by using the simplified methods provided in EN 1994-1-2. For the particular situations not covered by the standard, an advanced calculation model might be applied, using special purpose programs for the analysis of structures in fire. The validation of these programs has always been an important issue for software developers, but also for designers and authorities. Clause 4.4.4 from EN 1994-1-2 refers to the validation of the advanced calculation models and states that these models must be validated through relevant test results. The paper presents the calculation of fire resistance of the composite columns in a high-rise building built in Romania, and focusses on the validation of the calculation model (computer program SAFIR), for this particular case. This validation, asked by the Romanian authorities, considers the available experimental results of a fire test, performed on a similar composite steel-concrete column.

  • We develop semiparametric methods for matched case-control studies using regression splines. Three methods are developed: an approximate crossvalidation scheme to estimate the smoothing parameter inherent in regression splines, as well as Monte Carlo Expectation Maximization (MCEM) and Bayesian methods to fit the regression spline model. We compare the approximate cross-validation approach, MCEM and Bayesian approaches using simulation, showing that they appear approximately equally efficient, with the approximate cross-validation method being computationally the most convenient. An example from equine epidemiology that motivated the work is used to demonstrate our approaches.

  • Most of biomaterials come in direct contact with the body, making standardized methods of evaluation and validation of biocompatibility an important aspect to biomaterial development. However, biomaterial validation guidelines have not been fully established, until now. This study was to compare the in vitro behavior of osteoblasts cultured on nanomaterial $TiO_2$ surfaces to osteoblast behavior on culture plates. Comparisons were also made to cells grown in conditioned media (CM) that creates an environment similar to the in vivo environment. Comparisons were made between the different growth conditions for osteoblast adhesion, proliferation, differentiation, and functionality. We found that the in vivo-like system of growing cells in concentrated CM provided a good validation method for biomaterial development and in vivo implant therapy. The $TiO_2$ materials were biocompatible, showing similar behavior to that observed in vivo. This study provided valuable information that would aid in the creation of guidelines into standardization and evaluation of biocompatibility in $TiO_2$ biomaterials.

  • There are cases that revoke the certification because of disclosure of private key, deprivation of qualification and the expiration of a term of validity on PKI. So, a user has to confirm the public key whether valid or invalid in the certification. There are many methods such as CRL, Delta-CRL, OCSP for the cert-validation of certification. But these methods have many problems, which cause overload traffic on network and the CRL server because of realtime processing for cert-validation of certification. In this paper we proposed cert-validation of certification improvement method based on FM Subcarrier Broadcasting, which solved problems that are data integrity by different time between transmission and receiving for CRL, and overload traffic on network and the CRL server the realtime management.

  • Consider the problem of estimating the underlying regression function from a set of noisy data which is contaminated by a long tailed error distribution. There exist several robust smoothing techniques and these are turned out to be very useful to reduce the influence of outlying observations. However, no matter what kind of robust smoother we use, we should choose the smoothing parameter and relatively less attention has been made for the robust bandwidth selection method. In this paper, we adopt the idea of robust location parameter estimation technique and propose the robust cross validation score functions.

  • Nuclear power plants have recognized the importance of nuclear cybersecurity. Based on regulatory guidelines and security-related standards issued by regulatory agencies around the world including IAEA, NRC, and KINAC, nuclear operating organizations and related systems manufacturing organizations, design companies, and regulatory agencies are considering methods to prepare for nuclear cybersecurity. Cryptographic algorithms have to be developed and applied in order to meet nuclear cybersecurity requirements. This paper presents methodologies for validating cryptographic algorithms that should be continuously applied at the critical control system of I&C in NPPs. Through the proposed schemes, validation programs are developed in the PLC, which is a critical system of a NPP's I&C, and the validation program is verified through simulation results. Since the development of a cryptographic algorithm validation program for critical digital systems of NPPs has not been carried out, the methodologies proposed in this paper could provide guidelines for Cryptographic Module Validation Modeling for Control Systems in NPPs. In particular, among several CMVP, specific testing techniques for ECB mode-based block ciphers are introduced with program codes and validation models.
