  • In this study, the effects of planting density on the growth of chrysanthemum in a greenhouse were evaluated on two popular varieties (i.e., Sinma and Moonlight). Planting density treatments were as follows: 1) $12cm{\times}12cm$, 2) $6cm{\times}12cm$, 3) $6cm{\times}12cm$ with one-cell vacant, and 4) $6cm{\times}12cm$ with two-cell vacant. Size of each treatments indicate one chrysanthemum was planted in that sized cell that was rectangular shaped field and these treatments were located in a line. Moreover, "one and two-cell vacant" means that it makes middle point of the field empty, offers beside chrysanthemum larger spaces to grow. For the Sinma variety, the results of growth and flowering characteristics at the harvesting stage showed that leaf number, leaf length, flower length, and leaf area were highest when the crop was planted at the $12cm{\times}12cm$ density, and the next preferable density was $6cm{\times}12cm$ with one-cell vacant. For the Moonlight variety, the results showed that stalk height and diameter, leaf number and length, flower length, leaf area, and flower number were highest at the $12cm{\times}12cm$ planting density. For Sinma, ratios of marketable production were 87.5% and 83.3% for the $12cm{\times}12cm$ and $6cm{\times}12cm$ with two-cell vacant, respectively. For Moonlight, ratios were 88.0% and 84.3% for the $12cm{\times}12cm$ and $6cm{\times}12cm$ with two-cell vacant.

  • A photovoltaic system is getting the spotlight for a environment-friendly energy source. But its location is limited because a lot of land is necessary for photovoltaic arrays. Nevertheless, its dissemination is rapidly increasing more than 40 % every year and exceeded about 400 MW in 2009. The radical growth of a photovoltaic system aggravated a lack of sites, so that forests and farmland were destroyed. It is demanded to make use of a vacant lot or little piece of land for the way to solve the lack of sites and improve the location requirements for a photovoltaic system. General photovoltaic arrays are consist of a single layer structure and needs enough separation distances to maximize the amount of solar radiation and to eliminate influences by the shadow of other arrays. So that a large amount of land is required for the site. The solar cell arrays with long separation distances can not be placed in a small vacant lot and its site application efficiency is low. This study optimized photovoltaic arrays as multilayered structure with movable sleeves for the efficient photovoltaic in a small site. The existing photovoltaic arrays with a single layer structure were fixed or tracking systems. In this experimental equipment, photovoltaic arrays attached to the multilayers have rectilinear movement and rotary motion using sleeves. Therefore, shadow influences were removed and the generation capacity was improved. On the simulation result, generation increased by about 30% in the same site considering shadow influences and so on.

  • Natural and synthetic forms of calcium phosphate cement (CPC) have been widely used in bone repair and augmentation. The major challenge of injectable CPC is to deliver the cells without cell death in order to regenerate new bone. The study objective was to investigate for the potential of stem cell-laden gelatin fibers containing injectable, nanocrystalline CPC to function as a delivery system. Gelatin noddle fiber method was developed to delivered cells into nCPC. Experimental groups were prepared by mixing cells with nCPC, mixing cell-laden gelatin fibers with nCPC and mixing cell-laden gelatin fibers containing BMP-2 with nCPC. Media diffusion test was conducted after dissolving the gelatin fibers. SEM examined the generated channels and delivered cell morphology. Fibers mixed with nCPC showed physical setting and hardening within 20 min after injection and showed good shape maintenances. The gelatin fibers mixed nCPC group had several vacant channels generated from the dissolved gelatin. Particularly, proliferation and attachment of the cells were observed inside of the channels. While live cells were not observed in the cell mixed nCPC group, cells delivered with the gelatin fibers into the nCPC showed good viability and increased DNA content with culture. Cell-laden gelatin fiber was a novel method for cell delivery into nCPC without cell damages. Results also indicated the osteogenic differentiation of gelatin fiber delivered cells. We suggest that the cell-laden gelatin fibers mixed with nCPC can be used as an injectable cell delivery vehicle and the addition of BMP-2 to enhances osteogenesis.

  • A method of individual vehicle detection using gray scale image acquired from a high position is proposed for guidance of incoming vehicles to vacant cells in a parking lot and other similar purposes. With the proposed method, each image region corresponding to a cell is fragmented according to density(gray level), and the distribution of segment area is analyzed to decide if a vehicle is present. The proposed method was tested on an actual outdoor parking lot during 2 days with different weather conditions from sunrise through sunset.

  • Crystal-chemical study of hexagonal 7$\AA$ phyllomanganate minerals reveals that they have hexagonal layer structures with variable c dimensions which depend on the nature of interlayer cations and content of water molecules between edge-sharing [MnO6] octahedral layers. Approximately one out of nine octahedral sites is statistically vacant, leading to the general unit cell formula R2xMn4+1-xO2.nH2O, where R=Ca, Mn2+, Mg, K, Na;x=0.09-0.14 ; n-0.37-0.84. Z=1. The minerals of this formula fall under the name of rancieite group. It includes Ca-diminant (rancieite), Mn2+-dominant (takanelite), Na-dominant (birnessite), and Mg-dominant members. Minerals of the rancieite group occur predominantly in two different hydration states, i.e., n shows the values around 0.35 and 0.75. It is suggested that minerals of higher hydration state be called as species(i.e., rancieite, etc.) and those of lower hydration state be called as dehydrated varieties(i.e., dehydrated rancieite,etc.).

  • Cry structures of $Na_xWO_3$ (0.5$\leq$x$\leq$1.0) were investigated. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies indicate that there is an ordering of sodium ions when x=0.75. The direction of ordering is [110] and the wavelength of ordering is twice of the interplanar distance of (110) plane. It has been confirmed that a superlattice containing eight $Na_{0.75}WO_3$ is the unit cell of ordered structure. In this unit cell, Na sites at (000) and ($\frac{2}{1}\frac{2}{1}\frac{2}{1}$) are vacant. The ordered phase was preserved after the annealing at $600^{\circ}C$ in the air. In reduced $Na_xWO_3$ with x=0.5 and 1.0, extra phases were found with the partially ordered perovskite phase. After annealing at $600^{\circ}C$, theses phases transformed to the phases found in calcined specimens.

  • The substitution of vanadium atoms into the zeolite framework structure could be applied to the large pore zeolites by means of modified treatments as well as direct hydrothermal synthesis. The incorporation of V into the zeolite framework was demonstrated by instrumental analysis techniques. The result of X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the unit cell parameters increased after incorporation of vanadium into the zeolitic lattice, indicating that the replacement of Si by the larger V atoms could cause a slight expansion in the unit cell. In addition, the results of FTIR, Uv-Vis and Si-MAS-NMR spectra strongly support the incorporation of V into the zeolite framework. Acid leaching of aluminum in zeolites can provide a vacant position in the lattice for the insertion of vansdium by secondary hydrothermal treatment.

  • These studies convert to useful electricity from swine wastewater and to treat this wastewater. In order to operate the microbial fuel cell(MFC) for the swine wastewater, the anode volume of MFCs was scaled up with 5L in the vacant condition. Graphite felts and low-priced mesh stainless-less as electrode had mixed up and packed into the anode compartment. The meshed stainless-less electrode could also be acted the collector of electron produced by microorganisms in anode. For a cathode compartment, graphite felt loaded Pt/C catalyst was used. Graphite felt electrode embedded in the anode compartment was punched holds at regular intervals to prevent occurred the channeling phenomenon. The sources of seeding on microbial fuel cell was used a mixture of swine wastewater and anaerobic digestion sludge(1:1). It was enriched within 6 days. Swine wastewater was fed with 53.26 ml/min flow rate. The MFCs produced a current of about 17 mA stably used swine wastewater with $3,167{\pm}80mg/L$. The maximum power density and current density was 680 $mW/m^3$ and 3,770 $mA/m^3$, respectively. From these results it is showed that treatment of swine wastewater synchronizes with electricity generation using modified low priced microbial fuel cell.

  • This paper presents a dynamic association and natural interaction method for multi-displays composed of smart devices. Users can intuitively associate relations among smart devices by shake gestures, flexibly modify the layout of the display by tilt gestures, and naturally interact with the multi-display by multi-touch interactions. First of all, users shake their smart devices to create and bind a group for a multi-display with a matrix configuration in an ad-hoc and collaborative situation. After the creation of the group, if needed, their display layout can be flexibly changed by tilt gestures that move the tilted device to the nearest vacant cell in the matrix configuration. During the tilt gestures, the system automatically modifies the relation, view, and configuration of the multi-display. Finally, users can interact with the multi-display through multi-touch interactions just as they interact with a single large display. Furthermore, depending on the context or role, synchronous or asynchronous mode is available to them for providing a split view or another UI. We will show the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed approach by demonstrating implementation results and evaluating the method by the usability study.
