  • 최근에 많이 소개되는 인터넷을 이용한 교육, 학습의 대부분은 텍스트를 기반으로 하고 이미지를 삽입하는 방식을 이용하여 이루어지고 있다. 이런 방식은 인문, 사회분야의 과목에는 충분한 효과를 기대할 수 있지만 화학, 물리 등의 자연과학 과목에는 충분한 효과를 기대하기 어렵다. 이제는 통신의 발달로 인해 네트워크 사용이 생활화됨으로써 더 이상 VRML(Virtual Reality Modeling Language)이 넷스케이프 네비게이터나 마이크로소프트 인터넷 익스플로러 같은 인터넷 브라우저상에서 3차원 오브젝트만을 보여주는 시기는 지났다. 가상 세계여행 시스템은 최근 급속도로 확장되고 있는 인터넷과 인터넷 응용기술인 VRML, XML(extensible Makeup Language)을 이용하여 아직까지 사진이나 영상으로만 볼 수 있었던 세계의 도시, 건축물에 대한 정보를 3차원으로 구성된 세계여행을 통해 현실감 있는 정보를 제공하기 위해 설계되었다. 시스템의 특징은 세계의 대도시 및 유명 건축물을 VRML과 XML을 이용하여 가상으로 구성하고, 사용자는 프로그램 내에서 자신이 선택한 아바타를 조종하여 그 도시들을 여행함으로써 가상 공간 내에서 세계여행을 할 수 있다는 것이다. 또한 사용자는 여행중인 다른 아바타와의 채팅이 가능하고 도우미 아바타에게 궁금한 점을 질문할 수도 있다.

  • This paper presented a web-based virtual system to simulate forging operation. The system utilized simulation techniques of Finite Element Method (FEM) to analyze the forging process and Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) to visualize the simulation results in the web. The analysis using FEM could show mechanical information such as stresses and deformation profiles of a specimen during forging process and the analysis results were transferred into virtual space using VRML. Since the forging machine and specimen were modeled using Java and VRML, the forging machine and analysis results were browsed and integrated on the web that is interfaced to users through EAI to show the whole forging simulation. The developed system realized the working environment virtually so that education and experiment could be performed effectively even on the PC.

  • 본 연구에서는 인터넷상에서 현실감 있는 가상공간을 저작하는데 필요한 표준언어인 VRML(Virtual Reality Modeling Language)을 사용하여 손쉽고, 에러가 없이 정확하게 가상공간을 구축하기 위하여 시각프로그래밍 기법을 개발하였다. VRML로 정의된 가상공간 속의 물체를 아이콘으로 정의하고 정의된 물체들간의 상호작용을 정의해주는 이벤트(Event)들의 흐름과 그에 따른 물체의 행동을 시각적으로 표현하는 새로운 VRML 프로그래밍 기법을 제안한다. 본 연구에서 제안된 방법을 사용하면 VRML에서의 이벤트 흐름을 정의하는데 있어 직관적인 그래프 형태로 나타낼 수 있어서 VRML 코드 작성과 이해가 용이해지고, 온라인으로 VRMl 코드의 형식을 점검해주므로 에러 없는 VRML 코드를 작성하기가 쉬워진다. 그러므로 VRML 프로그래머의 생산성이 증가하고 제작된 인터넷 가상공간의 정확도와 신뢰도가 향상될 것으로 기대된다.

  • This paper describes recently developed PC based Aids to Navigation Training Simulator (AtoN-TS) using Virtual Reality Modeling language (VRML). The purpose of AtoN-TS is to train entry-level cadets to reduce the amount of sea-time training. The practical application procedure of VR technology to implement AtoN-TS is represented. The construction method of virtual waterway world, according to the guidelines of International Association of Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) is proposed. Design concepts and simulation experiments are also discussed. Results from trial tests and evaluations by subject assessment, provide practical insight on the importance of AtoN-TS.

  • U-City has been promoted nation-wide by development of recent IT technology. This paper studied the concept of 3D-virtual city in order to realize the current Ubiquitous City(U-City) efficiently, and to manage all the RFID/USN monitoring data in the real U-City. 3D-Virtual City is the concept of the reproduction of real world U-City, for embodying Ubiquitous technology while using Digital map, satellite image, VRML(Virtual Reality Modeling Language). U&V-City is the four-dimensional future city that real-time wire/wireless communication network and 3D-web GIS shall be connected that massive database, intelligent service be perceived through employing EAI(External Authoring Interface) that provides HTML&JAVA, and interface for efficient removal/process of massive information/ service and also by employing GPS/LBS/Navigation in support of world-wide orientation concept, and RTLS(Real Time Location System).

  • Corrosion of Reinforcement (rebar) is nondestructively estimated by the half-cell potential measurement. As is the case with other nondestructive testings (NDT), understanding of the underlying principles should be clarified in order to obtain meaningful results. Therefore, the measurement of potentials in concrete is analytically investigated. The effect of internal defects on the potentials measured is clarified numerically by the boundary element method (BEM). Thus, a simplified inversion by BEM is applied to convert the potentials on concrete surface to those on rebars, taking into account the concrete resistivity. Because the potentials measured on concrete surface are so sensitive to moisture content, concrete resistivity and surface condition, an inverse procedure to convert the potentials on concrete surface into those on rebars is developed on the basis of BEM. It is found that ASTM criterion is practically applicable to estimate corrosion from the potential values converted. In experiments, an applicability of the procedure is examined by accelerated corrosion tests of reinforced concrete (RC) slabs. For practical use, the procedure is developed where results of IBEM are visualized by VRML (Virtual Reality modeling Language) in three-dimensional space.

  • This paper describes prototype Virtual Reality Ship Simulator (VRSS) that we have recently developed next-generation training equipment based on the virtual reality (VR) technology. The inherent defects of conventional ship simulators are enormous costs and difficult system upgrade due to the system construction, such as large mock-up bridge system, wide visual presentations, In this paper, to cope with those problems, we explored VR technology that can give realistic environments in a virtual world. Then we constructed prototype VRSS system, which is, consists of PC-based human sensors, and Databases set having 3D object models and coefficients of Head Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs). 3D-WEBMASTER authoring tool was used as Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML). Using the VRSS system, we constructed Port an Passage Simulator for the harbor of INCHON in Korea, and Ship and Sea State Simulator for an arbitrary given sea environmental states by user. Through many simulation tests, we testified the efficiency of developed prototype VRSS by subject assessment with five participants. Then, we present results on the simulation experiments and conclude with discussion of evaluation results.

Path finding via VRML and VISION overlay for Autonomous Robotic (로봇의 위치보정을 통한 경로계획)

  • In this paper, we find a robot's path using a Virtual Reality Modeling Language and overlay vision. For correct robot's path we describe a method for localizing a mobile robot in its working environment using a vision system and VRML. The robt identifies landmarks in the environment, using image processing and neural network pattern matching techniques, and then its performs self-positioning with a vision system based on a well-known localization algorithm. After the self-positioning procedure, the 2-D scene of the vision is overlaid with the VRML scene. This paper describes how to realize the self-positioning, and shows the overlap between the 2-D and VRML scenes. The method successfully defines a robot's path.
