  • When converters operate in megahertz range, the passive components and magnetic devices generate high losses. However, the eddy current issues and choices of magnetic cores significantly affect on the design stage. Apart from that, the components' reduction, miniaturization technique and frequency scaling are required as well as improvement in thermal capability, integration technique, circuit topologies and PCB layout optimization. In transformer design, the winding and core losses give great attention to the design stage. From simulation work, it is found that E-25066 material manufactured by AVX could be the most suitable core for high frequency transformer design. By employing planar geometry topology, the material can generate significant power loss savings of more than 67% compared to other materials studied in this work. Furthermore, young researchers can use this information to develop new approaches based on concepts, issues and methodology in the design of magnetic components for high frequency applications.

  • In this study, a simulation investigation was conducted on the method of reducing switching noise and spurious emission among design methods for step-down DC-DC converter modules for automotive. A typical 4-layer converter circuit using a PMIC(Power Management Integrated Circuit) chip was presented, and the simulation results of conductive emissions at two input terminals (+, -) and the point between the input filter and the PMIC was performed in the 1.0~5.0MHz band and the 100MHz band. The results for the conducted and radiated emissions in the HF(3~30MHz) and VHF(30-300MHz) bands were presented. It showed an improvement of about 10dB over the bands by routing the output terminal placed on the 3 or 4-layer in the opposite direction to the input terminal. The result of this study is expected to be useful in the design of the DC-DC converter modules in the future because it gives a better improvement compared to the existing methods.

  • A UHF/VHF full-duplex communication using monopole and dipole antenna has been widely used for cube satellite applications. This kind of communication system requires a dedicated structure panel for antenna integration, which is the one of the disadvantages of the conventional communication system from the accommodation point of view considering the extremely limited volume of the cube satellite. In this study, to maximize the accommodation efficiency of the cube satellite, the commercial UHF half-duplex antenna combined with buck converter for communication modes transition has been considered in the communication system design. Its effectiveness has been verified through link budget analysis based on the antenna specifications and satellite's operation conditions. In addition, the antenna deployment mechanism for the synchronous release of multi-antennas has also been introduced.

  • In this paper, the Bit Error Ratio (BER) performances of the D8PSK modulation schemes for VDL Mode-2 are analyzed according to the matched and unmatched cases of the channel filters. The carrier frequency and phase offset effects are analyzed with unmatched case. Generally in digital transmission techniques, the Root Raised Cosine filters which are used as channel filters are applied to both sides at transmitter and receiver in order to achieve no ISI, but in VDL Mode-2, the Raised Cosine Filter is used only in transmission section and the receiver section uses general low pass filter, therefore we could not achieve ISI reduction effects but can have better spectrum quality. From the simulation results, the error probability is increased slightly (1~2dB) with use of un-matched channel filter, we got the conclusions that carrier phase offset do not effect to bit error ratio, but the frequency offset effect is so serious. Finally, narrow band D8PSK modulation signals are generated by the use of Digital Up-Converter and then its features are compared with analog modulator.

  • In this study, a method for simplifying the structure of the VDES RF receiver, and the gain control method of the receiver to comply with the international standard in this structure was described. The input level of the wanted signal and unwanted signal to the receiver was defined, and when the two signals were input, the saturation state at the ADC was checked at the receiver output. As a result of the simulation by the circuit simulator, it was satisfied that the output power of the receiver was in the SFDR region of ADC with respect to the adjacent channel interference ratio, intermodulation, and blocking level. Through this study, it was found that the structure of th proposed RF receiver conforms to the international standard.
