Changgyeonggung Palace, which was built in Seongjong Period in September 1484, is a tradition space that has been seen as a gateway to the Joseon Dynasty until it was demolished in 1907 at Changgyeongwon Garden. During the Japanese colonial rule, large greenhouses, museums, and botanical gardens were opened in Changgyeonggung Palace and traditional architecture and palace gardens were lost or changed. In 1984, the Changgyeonggung Palace maintenance plan was restored to the current status through the construction of the rebuild construction in 1986 to restore the traditional palaces. Since then, it has been maintained and managed in the shape of the mid-term plan of the 1980s for 30 years. The appearance of Changgyeonggung Palace(宮園) in the early 19th century shows the appearance of Changgyeonggung Palace in "Donggwoldo", and it is possible to confirm the prototype of the Joseon Dynasty through analysis of "Donggwoldo". The vegetation survey of Changgyeonggung Palace which started from 1984 was surveyed 4 times over 2005, 2010, and 2016, and the vegetation status of Changgyeonggung Palace could be confirmed based on the results of vegetation survey. By comparing and analyzing the results of the vegetation survey for 30 years and the analysis of the vegetation in Changgyeonggung Palace by the analysis of "Donggwoldo", we were able to confirm whether the vegetation status of Changgyeonggung Palace approached to the appearance of the Joseon Dynasty era.
We have studied the Yang-San peatland area to make a conservation plan. Since the peatland has its own unique ecosystem, which provides important resources in studying transformations of ecosystem, vegetation, weather, and many other things, it is not enough to emphasize the importance of preserving this area. Based on our investigation, we propose the followings to preserve the Yang-San peatland area and use in environmentally sustainable manner. First, it should be designated as a Wetland preservation area to make a conservation system between government and citizens. Second, a monitoring system is essential to observe the change of ecosystem and prohibit trespassing. Third, a comprehensive and precise investigation is in need how to restore the ecosystem. Fourth, an educational information about the ecosystem should be provided through pamphlets, postcards, visiting centers etc.
The purpose of this study is to provide the basis information for ecological conservation and restoration of Jangdo wetland conservation area through the survey of vegetation diversity and spatial distribution characteristics. Syntaxonomic account of plant communities were carried out field survey by Z.-M. school method at 14 sites and relationship analysis between plant community and environment variables with Principal Coordinate Analysis (PCoA). Based on the floristic composition, all the plots were classified into xeric and hydric type and arranged in seven plant communities. Spatial distribution of plant communities is determined primarily by the soil moisture condition and amount of organic matter. Hydric vegetation is around 8% ($7,337m^2$) of the protected area and distributed swamp forest of dominating willows under 18 years. Proliferation of willows are recognised extended from edge to centre after in 1990's caused by fallow and control of livestock grazing on wetland. Jangdo wetland will have to readjust the protection boundary because wet meadow zone and swamp forest have been distributed outside the protection area.
Surface evapotranspiration is one of the most important factors to determine the surface energy budget, and its estimation is strongly related with the accuracy of weather forecasting. Surface evapotranspiration over Daegu Metropolitan was estimated using high resolution LANDSAT TM data. The estimation of surface evapotranspiration is based on the relationship between surface radiative temperature and vegetation index provided by a TM sensor. The distribution of NDVI (Normalized Difference of Vegetation Index) corresponds well with that of land-used in Deagu Metropolitan. The temperature of several part of downtown in Deagu metropolitan is lower in comparison with the averaged radiative temperature. This is caused by the high evapotranspiration from dense vegetation like DooRyu Park in Deagu Metropolitan. But, weak evapotranspiration availability is distinguished over the central part of downtown and the difference of evapotranspiration availability on industrial complexes and residential area is also clear.

The study aims to examine population indices of mature trees in Jebel Elgarrie forest, Blue Nile State, Sudan. We used remote sensing techniques to stratify the forest into vegetation classes depending on tree density. We distributed 97 circular sample plots (0.1 ha) proportionally to the area of the vegetation classes. In each sample plot we identified, counted and recorded all mature trees (DBH ≥10 cm). We calculated frequency, density, abundance, richness, evenness and diversity for each species and we drew abundance rank curve of mature trees. We used One-Way ANOVA to test for differences (α=0.05) in mean density (No./ha) of mature trees between vegetation classes. Results revealed that the forest was conveniently sub-divided into high density (C1), medium density (C2), low density (C3) and bare farm land (C4) classes. We identified fifteen tree species that belong to 10 families and 14 genera. Combretaceae and Fabaceae were the common families while Anogeissus leiocarpa was the most frequently occurring species. While species diversity varied between vegetation classes, diversity of the forest as a whole is low. While mean density of mature trees in C1, C2, C3 and C4 it was 100, 74, 10, and 0, respectively, it was 54 for the whole forest indicating low stocking, Following One-Way ANOVA, multiple comparisons revealed significant differences in mean density of mature trees between C1 & C3 and C2 & C3. The study provided empirical results on population indices of mature tree species, which would be of importance for successful management and conservation of the forest.

The overuse in the outdoor recreation lands has been deteriorating the natural resources and landscapes. So this study was executed to measure the users'impacts on vegetation and soil at Hwaum Temple District Campsite in the Mt. Jiri National Park, the southern part of Korea. Five sites were sampled in the study area according to the extent of impact observed. Then the users'densities and impacts on vegetation and soil were measured at each site. According to the result of this study, the numbers of species and individuals and the coverage of lower-layer vegetation showed outstanding changes by only light use. The numbers of species and individuals of middle-layer vegetation, species diversity indices, change rate in species composition of lower and middle-layer vegetation, damage rate of forces, contents of clay, soil moisture and organic matters, exchangeable base ions, soil hardness, organic matter depth and bare area of the campsite showed conspicuous changes from the site 4(19.6men / 1,000㎡). Especially, the self-repair of vegetation was impossible as the result of analysis of soil hardness and the formation of natural vegetation was expected to be difficult as the result of vegetation sturcture analysis over the users'average density of 19.6men /1,000㎡. The campsite management of this area shall be proposed as follows to prevent serious deterioration of natrual environment. A limitation of the present use and a conservation on soil and vegetation should be required at the site 4 and 5. Specially, prevention of camping recreation and artificial rehabilitation are necessary at the site 5(24. 3 men/1000㎡)

The DMZ is a 248km long thin green line which has various landscapes of fields, hills and mountains. This study focused on western part of DMZ and vicinity which consist of abandoned rice paddy, wetlands and fields. The main purpose of this study is to detect the vegetation vitality from the western part of MDL to DMZ vicinity and identify and quantify ecological buffer(ecotone) width adopting logistic function derived from 'Vegetation Index-distance curve' using an Landsat ETM+ image acquired on June of 2002. Green leaf vegetation was quantified to identify the ecotone buffer in western DMZ and vicinity(civilian control area: CCA) using Transformed Vegetation Index(TVI) which is one of common measurement among various indices. Vegetation measurement from Military Demarcation Line(MDL) to vicinity area was investigated at 500m intervals to 10kms of southern and northern part of western DMZ and vicinity. The Logistic function models the sigmoid curve of growth with three stages of growth of initial competition and maturity. In the TVI-distance logistic curve, the maturity is high vegetation vitality, the competition is vitality changing, and the initial is low vitality. In the TVI-distance curve, maturity area of high TVI value is core area for ecological conservation, and the competition area between inflection points can be an ecotone(ecological buffer). In case of southern part, maximum TVI value is 221.92 and minimum is 207.16, and maximum TVI of northen part is 215.32 and minimum is 188.35. That means forest devastation of north Korean part of DMZ and vicinity is severer than that of south Korea. The width of core area for ecological conservation is 2,311m, and ecotone in the southern part is 5,339m, so minimum width from MDL for ecological conservation can be computed as 7,651m. In case of Northern part, the width of core area is 1,841m, and ecotone buffer is 5,014m, so ecological conservation width can be estimated as 6,855m. In case of northen part, width of estimated core area is less than that of DMZ width, which means ecological disturbance is very severe in northern part of western DMZ.

This study was surveyed to analyze vegetation structure of mountainous wetlands in Chung-ju city and around area from September to November, 2006. 6 sites of total 15 potential mountainous wetlands were discriminated throughout field survey. By classification system of mountainous wetlands presented in manual of forest wetlands research, types of wetlands were classified into slant and a flat. Many sites were covered with land plants as Pueraria thunbergiana and so on. To understand vegetation structure of mountainous wetlands, Height, DBH (diameter at breast height), DI (Dominance Index), Sociability and Constancy were surveyed and Based on this result, a projection chart was drawn. As results, Salix koreensis in tree layer and Persicaria thunbergii and Impatiens textori in herb layer were surveyed as broadly distributed species. This study is mainly focused on vegetation condition of mountainous wetlands. But, it will be needed studying on classification system of mountainous wetland type and functional assessment for conservation or management of wetlands.
This study was conducted to provide basic information for conservation and restoration through investigation of vegetation structure on the Euchresta japonica Hook. f. ex Regel (Korean endangered species) in Mt. Halla in Jeju Island. Very few individuals were discontinuously distributed and restricted at 220 m above sea level, very steep slope ($40-50^{\circ}$), rocky area of north face of Donneko Valley. For investigation of environmental condition, we established $10{\times}20\;m$ quadrat and one control $20{\times}20\;m$ quadrat in the habitats. Thirty three species were found at habitat under 10-16 m Castanopsis sieboldii tree layer (70-80%). The principal causes of threat which were investigated in this study are competition among companies, very steep slopes, artificial management of valley. For restoration and conservation of habitats, it is needed to suitable plans.

Saxifraga hirculus is classified as a vulnerable plant species in Europe, and it is confined to base-rich flushes in the British uplands. However, a lack of available information about its conservation status hampers the development of adaptive strategies for its in-situ conservation, especially with respect to grazing. To assess the effectiveness of sheep grazing in maintaining viable populations of S. hirculus, we compared the community dynamics of the vegetation in a base-rich flush over 44 years in two plots: one sheep-grazed under business-as-usual sheep grazing densities and the other fenced to exclude grazing. The plots were established in 1972, and the abundances of all vascular plants, bryophytes, and litter were measured at six intervals until 2016. Our results showed that although the presence of S. hirculus was maintained in both plots over the 44 years, it declined and reached a minimum between 1995 and 2010, when it was close to extinction. Since 2013, Saxifraga has recovered only slightly. Interestingly, the S. hirculus response appeared to be independent of grazing treatment, but it mirrored wider changes in the vegetation composition and structure within the flush over the 44 years. These changes are similar to others reported in broader uplands that have been attributed to a combination of reduced nitrogen and sulfur deposition and global warming. Thus, the simple adaptive management approach of "just managing" sheep grazing appeared ineffectual for preserving the S. hirculus population. S. hirculus showed signs of recovery at the end of the study period within this base-rich flush.
