  • Fuzzy L.P. with Multi-criteria function is adopted in this VAR planning algorithm to accomplish the optimization of comflicting objectives, such as the amount of the VAR installed and power system loss, while keeping the bus voltage profile within an admissible range. Fuzzy L.P. with Multi-criteria function, a powerful tool dealing with the fuzziness of satisfaction levels of the constraints and the goal of objective functions, enables us to search for the solutions which may contribute in VAR planning. This advantage is not provided by traditional standardized L.P. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm has been verified by the test on the IEEE-30 bus system.

  • This paper presents a new optimal VAR planning algorithm considering voltage stability margin. The characteristic of this method is to make it possible to formulate VAR planning for the dual purpose of maintaining voltage profiles within specified limits, and increasing the voltage stability margin of anticipated operating conditions with respect to voltage collapse. The IEEE-30 bus system is used to demonstrate the capability of the proposed algorithm.

  • In the power-system, the active and reactive power levels of load bus randomly vary over days, months, and years which are stochastic in nature. This paper presents an algorithm for optimal Var planning considering the uncertainties of loads. The optimization problem is solved by a stochastic linear programming technique which can handle stochastic constraints to evaluate optimal Var requirement at load bus to maintain the voltage profile which results in probabilistic density function by stochastic Load Flow analysis within admissible range. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm has been verified by the test on the IEEE-30 bus system.

  • This paper presents a optimal Var allocation algorithm for minimizing transmission line losses and improving voltage profile in a given system. In this paper, nodal input data is considered as Gaussian distribution with their mean value and their variance. A Stocastic Linear programming technique based on chance constrained method is applied, to solve the var allocation problem with probabilistic constraint. The test result in 6-Bus Model system showes that the voltage distribution of load buses is improved and the power loss is more reduced than before var allocation.

  • This paper presents long-term shunt capacitor planning using optimal power flow. OPF allows the planning engineer to find feasible solution with minimal amount of engineering time. We used OPF for Shunt capacitor planning to get an optimal solution. The result of OPF is compared to the analysis by the conventional loadflow method and it is proved that OPF gives more cheaper and better planning solution. With the result, we analyzed the operational perspective for the reactive power supply and demand.

  • Background: Allelopathy has been suggested as one potential mechanism facilitating the successful colonisation and expansion of invasive plants. The impacts of the ongoing elevation in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) on the production of allelochemicals by invasive species are of great importance because they play a potential role in promoting biological invasion at the global scale. Common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior), one of the most notorious invasive exotic plant species, was used to assess changes in foliar mono- and sesquiterpene production in response to CO2 elevation (389.12 ± 2.55 vs. 802.08 ± 2.69 ppm). Results: The plant growth of common ragweed significantly increased in elevated CO2. The major monoterpenes in the essential oil extracted from common ragweed leaves were β-myrcene, DL-limonene and 1,3,6-octatriene, and the major sesquiterpenes were β-caryophyllene and germacrene-D. The concentrations of 1,3,6-octatriene (258%) and β-caryophyllene (421%) significantly increased with CO2 elevation. Conclusions: These findings improve our understanding of how allelochemicals in common ragweed respond to CO2 elevation.

  • Recently, management and restoration efforts using the plants promote the disturbed habitats such as a set-asides or field boundaries. But, side effects are coming out because of using the exotic plants in restoration process. This study was conducted to select the native plant species used for restoration through the vegetation survey and plant community analysis at small stream-side in rural villages. We surveyed at two small stream-sides in open field and high land area in 2005 as a case study. Total 126 species was found at small stream side in open field area. As the result of important value' calculation, Persicaria thunbergii 23.0%, Humulus japonicus 18.6%, Phragmites communis 4.4%, Bromus japonicus 4.2%, and Rosa multiflora 3.4% were in the order of important value. Total 92 species were found at small stream side in high land area. As the result of important value' calculation, Dactylis glomerata 16.1%, Artemisia princeps var. orientalis 11.0%, Persicaria thunbergii 10.9%, Humulus japonicus 9.3%, Phragmites japonica 5.2% and Phragmites communis 3.5% were in the order of important value. We selected some plant species to use in restoration after due consideration of problems of exotic plant and high coverage and density species, and ecological process; Persicaria thunberii, Phragmites communis, Bromus japonicus, Rosa multiflora, Equisetum arvense, Digtaria sanguinalis, Impatiens textori, and Artemisia princeps var. orientalis in open field stream-side, and Artemisia princeps var. orientalis, Persicaria thunbergii, Phragmites japonica, Phragmites communis, Artemisia selengensis, Panicum bisulcatum, Rorippa indica, and Equisetum arvense at hghland stream-side. We will verify the selected native plants and plan the utilization of the native plants in restoration at stream-side in rural village.

  • For the establishment of district planning in natural parks, vegetationin the most significant point. Consequently, district plan should be made basically under phytosociological investigations. The purpose of this paper is to conserve vegetation in the district planning at natural park(Nam Han San Sung provincial natural park). The result of vegetation survey are as follows : As an actual vegetation 13 communities are recognized. Those are Quercus mongolica-Carpinus laxiflora community, Quercus mongolica-Rhododendron schlippenbachii community, Quercus serrate community, Betula platyphylla var. Japonica community, Quercus dentata community, Quercus mongolica-Pnuus densiflora community, Quercus acutissima community, Robinia pseudo-acacia community, Alnus hirsuta community, Castanea crenata community, Quercus variabilis community, Pinus densiflora community, Pinus rigida community, weed community on cultivated land(Form land), Larix leptolepis reforested land, cut over area and non-vegetation area. The grade of vegetation naturalness was divided into five degrees by characteristics of actual vegetation. I intended to make zoning plan for protection of vegetation with a special attention to the grade of vegetation naturalness and I discussed the necessity of the improvement of existing district plan. District plan was proposed as Fig. 5.
