This paper shows how boundary element method can be used to calculate torsion geometrical stiffness of cross-sections of various beams and airfoil profiles. Using the BEM direct formulation, the technique for determining bending and torsional geometrical characteristics of arbitrary multiply connected cross-sections is presented. The application limits of several well-known formulae on some test problems have been demonstrated and discused.

The metal V-belt behavior of a continuously variable transmission was investigated analytically and experimentally. Numerical results showed that nondimensional belt radial displacement increased in the radial inward direction for the driven pulley, while that of the driver pulley increased for the first 90 degrees of the active are and decreased with the increasing torque load. Experimental results for the belt radial displacement were in good agreement with the theoretical results. However, the absolute magnitude of the belt radial displacement was so small that the change in the belt displacement could not be measured in the experimental range except for the inlet region of the driven pulley, where the radial inward displacement was observed due to the effect of bending moment. The speed ratio-axial force relationship derived from the belt behavior analysis also showed god agreement with the experiment.

Although handicapped by the inability to bridge the size gap between small laboratory sample and large engineering component, the V charpy test sample method does possess certain advantages, such as each of preparation, simplicity of test method, speed, low cost in test machinery, and low cost per test. On the other hand, the COD test method does posses advantages, which reduce the size gap between the laboratory sample and actual engineering component. Consequently, the correlation between V charpy absorbed energy and the critical COD value is required for estimating critical COD value from the simple V charpy test results. In this paper, the high tensile strength steel AH36 plate specimens having a single edge cracked notch were investigated to find out the correlation between V charpy absorbed energy and critical COD value in the welded parts under such various welding methods as shielded metal arc welding, the submerged arc welding and the electro gas welding by means of V charpy impact test and static 3-point bending test. Main results obtained are as follow ; 1. The relationships between V charpy absorbed energy Wc' and critical COD value ($\delta_c$)show; $\delta_c$=0.0065 Wc'+0.1906. 2. Ductile- brittle transition behaviours can be estimated by means of fracture appearance and general yielding behaviours. 3. The V charpy absorbed energy of SMAW is higher than that of SAW, EGW and similar relationships are obtained in the COD tests.
The recombination motion of Partial dislocations on basal slip (0001) 1/3<1120> in sapphire ($\alpha$-Al$_2$$O_3$) single crystals was investigated using the four-point bending test with the prism plane (1120) samples. These bending experiments were carried but in the temperature range from $1200^{\circ}C$ to $1400^{\circ}C$ at various engineering stresses 90MPa, 120MPa, and 150MPa. During these tests it was shown that an incubation time was needed for basal slip to be activated. The activation energy for the incubation time was 5.6-6.0eV in the temperature range from $1200^{\circ}C$ to $1400^{\circ}C$. The incubation time is believed to be related to recombination of climb dissociated partial dislocations via self-climb. In addition, these activation energies are nearly same as those for oxygen self-diffusion in $Al_2$$O_3$ (approximately 6.3 eV). Thus, the recombination of the two partial dislocations would be possibly controlled by oxygen diffusion on the stacking fault between the partials.

This paper reports the first known free vibration data for thin rectangular plates with V-notches. The classical Ritz method is employed with two sets of admissible functions assumed for the transverse vibratory displacements. These sets include (1) mathematically complete algebraic-trigonometric polynomials which guarantee convergence to exact frequencies as sufficient terms are retained, and (2) corner functions which account for the bending moment singularities at the sharp reentrant corner of the Y-notch. Extensive convergence studies summarized herein confirm that the corner functions substantially enhance the convergence and accuracy of nondirectional frequencies for rectangular plates having the V-notch. In this paper, accurate frequencies and normalized contours of vibratory transverse displacement are presented for various notched plates, so that the effect of corner stress singularities may be understood.
The influence on flexural strength of Glass/Epoxy laminated composite curved panels of different geometries (cylindrical, spherical, elliptical, hyperboloid and flat) due to inclusion of nano cenosphere filler examined in this research article. The deflection responses of the hybrid structure are evaluated numerically using the isoparametric finite element technique and modelled mathematically via higher-order displacement structural kinematics. To predict the deflection values, a customised in-house computer code in MATLAB environment is prepared using the higher-order isoparametric formulation. Subsequently, the numerical model validity has been established by comparing with those of available benchmark solution including the convergence characteristics of the finite element solution. Further, a few cenosphere filled hybrid composite are prepared for different volume fractions for the experimental purpose, to review the propose model accuracy. The experimental deflection values are compared with the finite element solutions, where the experimental elastic properties are adopted for the computation. Finally, the effect of different variable design dependent parameter and the percentages of nano cenosphere including the geometrical shapes obtained via a set of numerical experimentation.
Shape Memory Polymer Composites (SMPC) have gained popularity over the last few decades due to its flexible shape memory behaviour over wide range of strains and temperatures. In this paper, non-linear bending analysis has been carried out for SMPC beam under the application of uniformly distributed transverse load (UDL). Simplified C0 continuity Finite Element Method (FEM) based on Higher Order Shear Deformation Theory (HSDT) has been adopted for flexural analysis of SMPC. The numerical solutions are obtained by iterative Newton Raphson method. Material properties of SMPC with Shape Memory Polymer (SMP) as matrix and carbon fibre as reinforcements, have been calculated by theory of volume averaging. Effect of temperature on SMPC has been evaluated for numerous parameters for instance number of layers, aspect ratio, boundary conditions, volume fraction of carbon fiber and laminate stacking orientation. Moreover, deflection profile over unit length and behavior of stresses across thickness are also presented to elaborate the effect of glass transition temperature (Tg). Present study provides detailed explanation on effect of different parameters on the bending of SMPC beam for large strain over a broad span of temperature from 273-373K, which encompasses glass transition region of SMPC.
The addition of steel fibers in concrete mixture is recognized as a non-conventional mass reinforcement scheme that improves the torsional, flexural, and shear behavior of structural members. However, the analysis of fiber reinforced concrete beams under combined torsion, bending, and shear is limited because of the complicated nature of the problem. Therefore, nonlinear 3D finite element analysis was conducted using the "ANSYS CivilFEM" program to investigate the behavior of fiber reinforced concrete L-beams. These beams were tested at different reinforcement schemes and loading conditions. The reinforcement case parameters were set as follows: reinforced with longitudinal reinforcement only and reinforced with steel bars and stirrups. All beams were tested under two different combined loading conditions, namely, torsion-to-shear ratio (T/V) = 545 mm (high eccentricity) and T/V = 145 mm (low eccentricity). Eight intermediate L-beams were constructed and tested in a laboratory under combined torsion, bending, and shear to validate the finite element model. Comparisons with the experimental data reveal that the program can accurately predict the behavior of L-beams under different reinforcement cases and combined loading ratios. The ANSYS model accurately predicted the loads and deformations for various types of reinforcements in L-beams and captured the concrete strains of these beams.

The purpose of this study was to classify somatotype and to investigate the 15 measurements for the clothing construction. The size of sample was 467 females between age 6 and 60. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was employed to analyze the 15 measurements by group and somatotype. The results of the study were as follows; 1) All the measurements were significantly different among the groups except the Vertebralis angle. 2) Concerning the upper part of the body, Standard somatotype was found more frequently in group IV. V compared with the other, Turning over somatotype in group I. II, Bending somatotype in group VI. VII. VIII. Concerning the under part of the body Standard somatotype was found more frequently in group IV. V. VI. VII. VIII. compared with the other, Forward-turning over somatotype of the lower help body and Turning over somatotype in group I. II. III. when the upper part of the body was turning over somatotype, the under part of the body was generally Turning over somatotype or Forward-turning over somatotype. When the upper part of the body was Bending somatotype, the under part of the body was commonly Forward somatotype.

In this study, we fabricate transparent and bendable a-IGZO (amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide) TFTs (thin-film transistors) with a-IZO (amorphous indium zinc oxide) transparent electrodes on plastic substrates and investigate their electrical characteristics under bending states. Our a-IGZO TFTs show a high transmittance of 82% at a wavelength of 550 nm. And these TFTs have an $I_{on}/I_{off}$ ratio of $1.8{\times}10^8$, a field effect mobility of $15.4cm^2/V{\cdot}s$, and a subthreshold swing of 186 mV/dec. The good electrical characteristics are retained even after bending with a curvature radius of 18 mm corresponding to a strain of 0.5% owing to mechanical durability of the transparent electrodes used in this study.
