  • Shear walls are structural members in buildings that are used extensively in reinforced concrete frame buildings, and almost exclusively in the UK, regardless of whether or not they are actually required. In recent years, the UK construction industry, led by the Concrete Centre, has questioned the need for such structural elements in low to mid-rise reinforced concrete frame buildings. In this context, a typical modern, 5-storey residential building is studied, and its existing shear walls are replaced with columns as used elsewhere in the building. The aim is to investigate the impact of several design variables, including concrete grade, column size, column shape and slab thickness, on the building's structural performance, considering two punching shear limits (VEd/VRd,c), lateral drift and accelerations, to evaluate its maximum possible height under wind actions without the inclusion of shear walls. To facilitate this study, a numerical model has been developed using the ETABS software. The results demonstrate that the building examined does not require shear walls in the design and has no lateral displacement or acceleration issues. In fact, with further analysis, it is shown that a similar building could be constructed up to 13 and 16 storeys high for 2 and 2.5 punching shear ratios (VEd/VRd,c), respectively, with adequate serviceability and strength, without the need for shear walls, albeit with thicker columns.

  • It is the basic studies for productivity improvement and laborsaving of purse seine fishery. Because the seine shape is apt to be transformed in seine shooting process due to the effect of tide, this study is intended to establish 4 steps, whose flow velocity are 0, 2, 4 and 6cm/sec, in flume tank and perform the experiment to review the character. We used two model seines designed on the scale of 1 to 180 based on the power block seine, which is the mackerel purse seine generally used in the near sea of Jeju Island and triplex seine, which is the mackerel purse seine of one boat system fishing expected in the future, for the experiment, analyzed of the sinking movements on the two seines and its results are as follows. In the setting over the flow velocity 6cm/sec, experiment was impossible because of flying and transformation of seine were severe. The sinking movements of P seine and T seine generally showed linear phenomenon and the sinking speed showed gentle curve shape. Sinking tendency was distinguished by existence of flow velocity. When there is flow velocity, it showed the phenomenon that it sinking by similar type. Although sinking depth and sinking speed did not show distinguished classification, P seine shows bigger than T seine. When there was in flow velocity, the elapsed time(Et) and sinking depth (PDp, TDp) of P seine and T seine can be shown such experimental equations as PDp=(0.21V+4.96)Et-(0.62V-0.10) and TDp=(0.19V+4.95)Et-(0.72V+0.34). When there was in flow velocity, the elapsed time and siking speed (PSp, TSp) of P seine and T seine can be shown such experimental equations as $PSp=-0.11Et^2+1.42Et+1.75\;and\;TSp=-0.11Et^2+1.41Et+1.37$.

  • This paper presents curvature-compensated reference circuits operating under low-voltage condition and achieving low-power consumption with $0.35-{\mu}m$ standard CMOS process. The proposed circuit can operate under less than 1-V supply voltage by using MOS transistors operating in weak-inversion region. The simulation results shows a low temperature coefficient by using the proposed curvature compensation technique. It generates a graph-shape temperature characteristic that looks like a sine curve, not a bell-shape characteristic presented in other published BGRs without curvature compensation. The proposed circuits operate with 0.9-V supply voltage. First, the voltage reference circuit consumes 176nW power and the temperature coefficient is $26.4ppm/^{\circ}C$. The current reference circuit is designed to operate with 194.3nW power consumption and $13.3ppm/^{\circ}C$ temperature coefficient.

  • The present investigation was focussed on histochemical and electron microscopical observations of utero-vaginal(U-V) glands in U-V junctions of domestic hens. In histochemical observations, fine granules by PAS technique for mucopolysaccharides and nile blue stain for acidic lipids were slightly stained on the cytoplasm of U-V glandular epithelium. Larger granules by Sudan black B stain for neutral fat and phospholipids and Sudan III stain for neutral fat were heavily stained on the perinuclear region of the U-V gland epithelial cells. These positive materials were heavily stained on the U-V glandular epithelium of lowfecundity hens and non-laying hens. In scanning electron microscopic findings of the U-V junction surface, the orifices of U-V glands are seen as the crater-like invagination. The neck of the U-V gland and the epithelium of U-V iunction were covered by ciliated epithelial cells. Aggregates of spermatozoa are observed often to be on the necks of the U-V gland. These spermatozoa heads are embedded in the glandular tubules and many spermatozoa tails are free on the epithelium of uterine surface. In transmission electron microscopic findings, the epithelial cells of the U-V glandular orifices were ciliated, columnar cells. The apical regions of these cells contained numerous electrondense, round secretory granules of uniformly size. The epithelial cells of the U-V glandular tubule were columnar or pyramid shape with round or oval nuclei. These epithelial cells have numerous microvilli and also contained electron-dense, round secretary granules of uniformly size and electron-lucent vesicles of various size. Spermatozoa are seen as the cross-sections of various regions of heads and tails in glandular tubules. Also spermatozoa arranged longitudinally parallel within the glandular tubules.

  • We report Vallisneria spinulosa S. Z. Yan (Hydrocharitaceae) as an unrecorded species from the flora of Korea. This aquatic vascular plant occurs in reservoirs, streams, and ditches at Changnyeong, Changwon, and Gimhae which belong to Nakdong river basin. Vallisneria spinulosa is distinguishable from V. natans (Lour.) Hara already known to Korean flora by the presence of turion and hairs at base of stamen, adnation between pistil and staminodia, the number of stamen, and shape of fruit and seed. V. spinulosa is similar to V. desnseserrulata Makino in the viewpoint of distribution (Japan and southern China), but V. spinulosa has three to five epidermal wings on the surface of seed.

  • Early leaves within the Viola albida complex were investigated by scanning electron microscopy in order to determine the morphological segments during morphogenesis. The early leaf development of V. albida var. albida could be morphologically divided into the eight stages in the following order: I, the initiation of shoot germination; II, the conical growth directionally of the leaf; III, the adaxial and abaxial formation of the leaf; IV, the initiation of the stipule; V, the formation of a transitional zone between the leaf blade and petiole; VI, the expansion of the upper part of the leaf blade; VII, the formation of almost all parts of the early leaf; VIII, the early simple leaf. Viola albida var. takahashii differs from V. albida var. albida by additional stages, i.e., V-1, the initiation of the first lateral lobe at the both lateral parts of the leaf after the stage V and an early lobed leaf. Viola albida var. chaerophylloides is also distinguished from two taxa by two developmental features, V-2, the initiation of a second lateral lobe below of the first lateral lobe, and an early palmately compound leaf. These findings suggest that the Viola albida complex would be in the process of peramorphosis, showing developmental changes in a chain of events, leading to a different leaf shape. These data would also be useful for isolating genes that give rise to different leaf morphogenesis outcomes among the taxa in the Viola albida complex.

  • In this paper we present a new method for designing a nozzle. In fact the problem is to find the optimal domain for the solution of a linear or nonlinear boundary value PDE, where the boundary condition is defined over an unspecified domain. By an embedding process, the problem is first transformed to a new shape-measure problem, and then this new problem is replaced by another in which we seek to minimize a linear form over a subset of linear equalities. This minimization is global, and the theory allows us to develop a computational method to find the solution by a finite-dimensional linear programming problem.

  • The Discrete Element Method, DEM, is increasingly used in fracture studies of non-homogeneous continuous media, such as rock and concrete. A 2D circular rigid DEM formulation, developed to model concrete, has been adopted. A procedure developed to generate aggregate particles with a given aspect ratio and shape is presented. The aggregate particles are modelled with macroparticles formed by a group of circular particles that behave as a rigid body. Uniaxial tensile and compression tests performed with circular and non-circular aggregates, with a given aspect ratio, have shown similar values of fracture toughness when adopting uniform strength and elastic properties for all the contacts. Non-circular aggregate assemblies are shown to have higher fracture toughness when different strength and elastic properties are set for the matrix and for the aggregate/matrix contacts.

  • Wherever there are rotating equipment and contact between surface, there is wear and the generation of wear particles. The particles contained in the lubricating oil carry detailed and important information about the condition monitoring of the machine. This information may be deduced from particle shape, composition, size distribution, and concentration. Therefore, This paper was undertaken to Ferrography system of wear debris generated from lubricated moving machine surface. The lubricating wear test was performed under different experimental conditions using the Falex wear test of Pin and V-Block type by Ti(C, N) coated. It was shown from the test results that wear particle concentration (WPC) and wear severity Index( $I_{S}$), size distribution in normal and abnormal wear have come out all the higher value by increases sliding friction time. Wear shape is observed on the Ferrogram it was discovered a thin leaf wear debris as well as ball and plate type wear particles. This kind of large wear shape have an important effect not only metals damage, but also seizure phenomenon.

  • In this paper, two kinds of windmill type motors which have a disk shape and a ring shape piezoelectric ceramics were studied. And characteristics of two models were compared with each others. A windmill type ultrasonic motor is composed of a stator, a rotor, and a ball bearing. The stator is made of a piezoelectric ceramics and two metals endcaps. When the piezoelectric ceramics vibrate, displacement of torsonal vibration appear at metal endcaps. The motor with 11.0[mm] diameter was studied by finite element analysis. The voltage of 100[V] was supplied at each model. Resonance frequency of 206.875[KHz] was obtained at the disk type, but ring type was 137.562[KHz]. The maximum torsonal displacement of $1.112[{\mu}m]$ was obtained at the disk type, but ring type was $1.698[{\mu}m]$.
