  • Of two photovoltaic systems such as stand-alone type and utility interactive one, the utility interactive systems are so valuable for power peak-cut particularly in summer season. For the maximum power point tracking(MPPT) by which the generated energy can be maximized, many control methods have been reported up to now. To overcome the disadvantages of the conventional ones, a new MPPT algorithm is proposed which can improve both tracking ability and generating efficiency of photovoltaic system without chopper.

Study on Application of Interactive Contents for Effective Smart Education (효과적인 스마트 교육을 위한 인터랙티브 콘텐츠 적용에 관한 연구)

  • Education environment of modern society is rapidly changing along the usage of various device and development of contents. Learners of diverse age groups and genders are exposed in smart education environment. Thus in order to investigate effective smart education contents production, this study classified interactive types that affect learning satisfaction into CAI (Computer Assisted Instruction) based , NCS (Network Communication System) based , and NTS (New Technology System) based . Then we investigated how each interactive types affect immersion, utility, self-efficacy, practicality, and stimulation. The effects were measured according to the learner's gender and age. As the result, interactive types do affect smart education, where male had higher learning satisfaction for CAI based, game type, and wiki type while female had higher satisfaction for relationship establishment type and experience type. Also, for age group, the 10s preferred NTS based, 20~30s NCS based, and 40s and over CAI based interactive type. Thus, if satisfaction levels according to gender and age are considered when producing smart education contents, it may be possible to create educative contents that meet the dispositions of the learners.

  • This paper describes Transformer-less type utility interactive system that is combined with buck/boost chopper applying partial resonant method, which remove Transformer, and high efficient PWM inverter. Therefore, it is possible to make it lightweight, to cut down the cost, and to improve its reliability. What the merits of this system are that we can transmit arbitrary power arbitrary power to load and utility regardless of generating voltage magnitude of solar cell and we can always obtain high factor controlling by equal phase signal with utility.

  • An investigation into power conditioners that interface with photovoltaic array and utilities has been completed. The rating for this investigation is residential system (3-5kW) that interface with a 220V single phase utility connection. As the result of this investigation. a 3kW high frequency PWM IGBT inverter feeding a high frequency isolation transformer with a sinusoidal current wave was selected. The output of the transformer rectified with a diode bridge rectifier four IGBT, used as 60Hz switched, reverse the polarity of the rectified current on every other half cycle of the utility voltage. Even though the high frequency link system used more power semiconductors, a net size, weight, and parts cost saving result compared to the other systems due to elimination of 60Hz transformer.

  • Since the residential load is an AC load and the output of solar cell is DC power, the photovoltaic system needs the DC/AC converter to utilize solar cell. In case of driving to interact with utility line, in order to operate at unity power factor, converter must provide the sinusoidal wave current and voltage with same phase of utility line. Since output of solar cell is greatly fluctuated by insolation, it is necessary that the operation of solar cell output in the range of the vicinity of maximum power point. In this paper, DC/AC converter is three phase PWM converter with smoothing reactor. And then, feed-forward control used to obtain a superior characteristic for current control and digital PLL circuit used to detect the phase of utility line.

  • When distributed generation such as a wind power system is connected to the grid, it should meet grid requirements like IEEE Std. 1547, which regulates the anti-islanding method. Since the islanding may cause damage on electrical equipments or safety hazards for utility line worker, a distributed generation should detect it as soon as possible. This paper proposes a hybrid anti-islanding method coupled with the active and passive detection methods. To enhance the harmonic extraction capability for an active harmonic injection method, cascaded second-order band-pass filter and signal processing scheme are employed. Simulation and experiments are carried out under the islanding test condition specified in IEEE Std. 1547. Passive over/under voltage and over/under frequency methods are combined with the active method to improve the detection speed under certain condition. The simulation and experimental results are presented to verify that the proposed hybrid anti-islanding method can effectively detect the islanding.

  • Typhoons were known by contributing to transporting plus heat or kinetic energy from equatorial region to midlatitude region. Due to the strong damage from typhoon, we acknowledged the theoretical study and the importance of accurate forecast about typhoon. In this study, typhoon forecasting system was developed to search the tracks of past typhoons or to display similar track of past typhoon in comparison with the path of current forecasting typhoon. It was programmed using Interactive Data Language(IDL), which was a complete computing environment for the interactive analysis and visualization of data. Typhoon forecasting system was also included satellite image and auxiliary chart. IR, Water Vapor, Visible satellite images helped users analyze an accurate forecast of typhoon. They were further refined the procedures for generating water vapor winds and gave an initial indication of their utility for numerical weather prediction(NWP), in particular for typhoon track forecasting where they could provide important information. They were also available for its utility in typhoon tracer or intensity.

  • Islanding in a gird connected inverter of wind power generation system may influence a bad effect on equipments or yield safety hazards on grid so it should be detected rapidly and exactly. A passive method to detect islanding is comparatively simpler than an active method but suffers from non detection zone (NDZ). On the other hand, the active method can significantly reduce NDZ by injecting a disturbance into inverter output. To improve the reliability of islanding detection, this paper proposes a hybrid anti-islanding detection method combining the conventional passive method as well as the active method based on novel harmonic injection method using fourier transform. The proposed scheme is fast to detect islanding when NDZ does not exist because it has the nature of passive method. Under NDZ, the active method can detect occurrence of islanding reliably. The effectiveness and validity of the proposed scheme is proved through comparative simulations.

  • In general, a single-phase current-fed PWM inverter using IGBTs has some unique advantages for small scale distributed utility-interactive power supply system as compared with voltage-fed PWM inverter. In particular, this is more suitable and acceptable for a non-isolated type utility-interactive power conditioner, which is going to be widely used for residential solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation system in Japan. However, this current-fed PWM inverter has a significant disadvantage. The output current of this inverter includes large harmonic contents when the inductance of smoothing reactor in its DC side is not large enough to eliminate its current ripple components of this inverter. In order to overcome this problem, a new conceptual pulse area modulation scheme for this inverter is introduced in difference with conventional PWM strategy. This paper presents a new effective control implementation of this PV power conditioner which is able to reduce the harmonic component in the output current produced by the single-phase current-fed PWM inverter even when the ripple current in the smoothing DC reactor is relatively large. The operating principle of the proposed control strategy introdued for this inverter system is described, and its simulation results are evaluated and discussed herein.

  • There is an application which uses smoothing reacter connecting each of the phases in order to make the system smaller comparison with an application using the insulating transformer in the utility interactive photovoltaic generation system using the PWM converter. In this case, there might be the occurence of the unbalance of output voltage, by the difference of smoothing reactor, connected on each of the lines. Therefore this study proposes that the method which maintains the balance and compensates the unblance which occured by the different volume of the smoothing reactor connected on each of the lines.
