  • Android has become the most popular platform for mobile devices. However, Android still has critical performance issues, such as "application not responding" errors and hiccups resulting from garbage collection. Many phone vendors have tried to resolve the problems by characterizing and improving the performance. However, there are few insightful performance analysis tools for the Android-based systems. This paper presents AndroScope, which is a performance analysis tool for both the Android platform (Dalvik virtual machine, core libraries, Android libraries, and even Linux kernels) and its applications. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first tool to collect and analyze performance data from all the software layers of the Android-based systems. AndroScope offers a trace mechanism to collect such deep and wide performance data as hardware performance counters, time, and memory usage. In addition, the tool includes TraceBridge, which is a middleware for the fast handling of mass logs. Moreover, AndroScope offers an integrated graphical user interface with the Android software development kit to display a great volume of the detailed performance data.

  • The author discusses the nature and scope of archival reference service through the debate to user studies in the 1980s and the 1990s. Until the 1990s, archivists paid little attention to studying their user population. A new approach to archival user service led to the development of various public services of archives and resulted in active interaction with the public. Based on the discussion, the article examines the implication of archival reference service in Korean society.

  • For the last decade, some leading groups of corporations in Korea have integrated and managed their Information Systems(IS) functions. Each group established a separate System Management(SM) company to manage the IS and tried to get a synergy effect from the integration. These attempts, however, were not initiated by any one company. Rather they were group efforts. Moreover, the previous measuring tools evaluated IS with the scope of technical performance or quantitative user satisfaction using an absolute scale. Obscure criteria were used in an attempt to present improvements in IS function which were qualitatively weak. This study evaluates whether integration has been efficient and successful. For this purpose, we evaluate the performance efficiency of IS functions with Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) methodology. In comparison with prior methods, DEA presents the rate of relative efficiency, the efficiency frontier for improving inefficiency, the degree of improvement(slack), and the guideline to construct any benchmark(reference set). For our DEA evaluation, this study selected a leading group of 23 companies in Korea. Our experimental results are as follows. First, efficiency was rated low on average. It also demonstrates that the motivation of performance efficiency of IS functions is deficient. Second, the result of the test to find the existence of economy of scale and scope shows that the growth of an organization and industrial characteristics do not affect IS performance efficiency from the perspective of user satisfaction. Finally, the comparison with other evaluation approaches informs us that DEA can be a complementary evaluation method which supports other measuring tools.

  • The purpose of this study is (1) to research on the diverse evaluation criteria suggested in the existing literatures, selected the contents of the evaluation according to the evaluation factors, and examined whether they are appropriate for the evaluation of websites that offer Clothing and Ornament related information through reliability analysis - all to set the evaluation criteria for the websites that acquire data. In addition. (2) contents of evaluation which are deemed important by the users and developers were compared and recommended as the detailed evaluation contents according to evaluation factors. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The evaluation factors for the fashion websites that provide Clothing and Ornament related information were selected as follows: contents of the information(11 contents of evaluation), ease of use(12), screen design(10), accessibility(9), sensitive enjoyment(4), scope of information use(3), purpose(1), and target user(1). As result of reliability analysis. Cronbach's a contents of the information (0.76), ease of use (0.77), screen design (0.85), accessibility (0.81), sensitive enjoyment (0.71), and scope of information use (0.52). 2. When the level of importance for the detailed evaluation contents was examined from the user and developer point of view, recency of information. rapid speed for the websites access. fast loading of webtext and fast transmission speed topped the list as first, second and third places.

  • While numerous studies have empirically investigated user behavior in LIS research community, less research has attempted to examine such studies in methodological perspective. Reflecting this, relevant studies have suggested the need to develop methodological framework for such studies. This study conducted content analyses of user behavior studies recently published in JASIST and analyzed factors which affect the external validity of result of such researches. The findings revealed various types and cases related to the generalization of the study results. Based on these, a methodological framework for user behavior studies were suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest fundamental data for design and planning of university dormitory through the survey of facility condition and resident's satisfaction. The scope of this research is limited to the period from late 1980's to early 2000's. The University Dormitories in Jeollanam-do and Jeollabuk-do are selected as subject. The result of this study is as follow. 1) Even though dormitory's total area is increased than the past, user's satisfaction is still in low level. It's necessary for user to fit a space to life pattern and the difference of human. 2) As a result of comparing of the sexual difference, most men are more active than women in using facility and practice 3) Not only a part of facility but also a part of operation is important element in satisfaction.

  • By taking a bottom-up "library in the life of the user" perspective rather than a top-down "user in the life of the library" perspective, this paper uses anecdotal evidence from the past and near present to examine the multiple roles the U.S. public library plays and has played as public space in the everyday lives of its patrons. By harnessing "public sphere" theory discussed in Jurgen Habermas's THE STRUCTURAL TRANSFORMATION OF THE PUBLIC SPHERE (1989) and by the examining the rich literatures on civic life and institutions that have evolved from it, the author argues that Library and Information Studies discourse has to expand its scope to include research and analysis of "library as place" from a user's perspective if it hopes to develop a deeper understanding of what the public library does for means to members of the communities in which they reside.

  • Since 1980, rapid social and economic development due to increased plant construction has led to a plant dormitory in a short period. In recent years, by the advent of the durability of dormitory remodeling is a critical need. However, user requirements due to the lack of owner's budget do not reflected. As a result, users have complained about the scope of construction, and construction stakeholder in accordance with the budget efficiency of the complaints have decreased. In this study the remodeling requirements in the planning stages is proposed for the remodeling process. In addition work type and element can select a range of construction worksheet are proposal.

  • Development of mobile technology has brought a rapid change in people's lifestyle. Mobile is currently expanding its scope and diffusing the range in diverse fields of smart environments. Many of the means are being used as an alternative of communication by users in the mobile environment. Among them, it is currently in an increasing trend of using mobile stickers as a means for communication. This study is intended to analyze mobile stickers as a means for communication and seek for a direction of development of mobile stickers through analysis on user preference.

  • This study was intended to develop a multi-purpose, multi-functional design for safety vest to enhance the safety and user's availability. With a limited scope to LED-applied safety vest, this study contemplates on the problems of safety vest on the market and directions for design development with a view to develop its prototype. This is a significant study because it has been conducted concerning a prototype, a cut above the study method of constructing a basic theory. For study method, theoretic considerations on LED and safety vest are followed by case study for LED-applied safety vest currently on the market to draw out problems. Then, solutions for problems with LED safety vest will be found, while planning for a design direction in consideration of safety, functionality and beauty. Scope of study was limited to cases of LED safety vests currently on sale online and offline, excluding cases of common-form luminosity such as HB luminous vest without LED. Accordingly, results of study will help develop the prototype for LED safety vest with an increase of the wearer's safety, and be used as a basic data for developing high-value-added fashion prodcts to meet his aesthetic sense and functionality. This study has limitations. Restricted scope for LED-applied safety vest should be extended to an outdoor wear in follow-up research for the foundation of higher value added.
